eWBM is a fabless semiconductor company specialized in IoT security and AR. In the year 2018, the company had a busy year: export to German IoT market, collaboration with an American LED lighting company, and unveiling its MS series, LoRa and FIDO2 at the 2018 IoT Korea Exhibition at COEX and the IoT Tech Conference in Silicon Valley US. <Power Korea> met Stephen Oh, CEO of eWBM, and Bruce K Lee, CEO of Flyvo, an affiliate of eWBM, which makes IP cameras and fine dust devices.

IP security cameras

Regarding business in the Vietnamese IoT market, Flyvo CEO Lee says “We are initially working on supplying IP security cameras for the smart street lamps. The markets for IP security cameras are increasing overseas and the year 2019 will push us up for mass production in full scale. We see‘security’ in the IP cameras as our ‘competitiveness’ and it will turn our business with a long term perspective.” 

If Flyvo is a company specialized in system development and server management, eWBM is in security chips; thus create a great synergy effect in the field. eWBM CEO Oh says “The security issue on IP camera is very serious. The data gathered from IP cameras installed in public buildings, for example, needs utmost security and all can get lost once hacked. Supplying the IP security cameras to Vietnam came from this awareness and the subsequent actions in advance.” Lee continues “Korea shows excellence in product, design and price but there are still many hurdles to run over when it comes to ‘security’. I would say that the market is almost ignorant of the importance. It is regretful that our business is valued more overseas than domestic like you see that we will soon to be entering the Japanese market also.”

Find dust solutions

The frequent appearance of fine dust and ultrafine dust has become a serious environment issue globally and many international organizations are exerting to find effective solutions. The PM 2.5 in find dust especially is known to be fatal to our body. Seeing the seriousness with much concern, eWBM, the Shenyang Environmental Science Research Center and the Shenyang External Science Technology Exchange Center LLC joined hands to sign an agreement for R&D and Public Installations of IoT-based Air Pollution Detection Technology.

The draft came from the materials Oh presented at the APEC SME Environmental Protection Industry Technology Development Forum and the China-Korea Environmental Industry Technology Development Forum held in Shenyang last summer; the Shenyang Environmental Science Research Center adopts the sensor devices and the core techs from eWBM for development, change and verification while the Shenyang External Science Technology Exchange Center LLC takes in charge of commercialization and operation.

For this, eWBM is to provide MS500 module as well as management on control center and data while Flyvo provides its own development of innovative fine dust terminals. It is expected that this pilot project will spread nationwide in China if proven effective and efficient.
