“The purpose of my life is to help people in need or to show my will to help” said Albert Schweitzer. Indeed, helping people can make both the helper and the helpee feel good and happy. It is often the case that companies that help prosper and companies that pursue money only deteriorate. Kim Hyung-suk, the president of the World Disabled Welfare Promotion Association Jongno Youth Division, is a famous figure in Jongno District, Seoul for the district residents often call him ‘the angel of Jongno’.

He grew up with his six family members in a single room of an unauthorized building in Ihwa-dong, Jongno. He once was an athlete but had an accident at his workplace. His disabled fingers played the obstacle for him to get a job and he had to face the world with bitterness. Yet the more the world shows cold feet on him the stronger he became to make his life worthwhile. As an ardent Christian, he spent most of his time during the weekend at a churchand took care of his fellow believers and the affairs there. His firm belief in God named his 5 children Hope, Love, Faith, Purity and Grace. Yet his good and generous heart not only has reached to the Christians but the people in need regardless their religion.

To fulfill his academic desire, he is majoring in education at Korea National Open University at the moment and his hyperactive character made him form a love KNOP club. His good deed has been well spread to the society and he formed a special tie with the cardinal Chung Jin-suk and the cardinal Stephen Kim Sou-hwan (deceased) in various events. When he asked why he was picking up cigarette butts on the street around the Jongno District area, he said “I love nature, I love neighbor and I want to make both clean and fresh.”

“Looking back, I think I had rather lived a harsh life. But I wasn’t afraid of the world and I didn’t fear death. I just want to be truthful to myself, pray for the people I love and serve the people for as long as I can. That’s all I want.”
