“Jacob Korea builds both-way business model: supplier and buyer!”
Hong Yong-ui, CEO of Jacob Korea

Jacob Korea is a startup company which exports daily necessities to the US and sells quality products produced in advanced countries to new rising markets. Since its establishment in September 2015, Jacob Korea has created 80% of its revenue by export. The company achieved 120 million won sales in 2016 and 620 million won (USD$581,000) sales last year. “We developed virtual measuring instruments, digital body temperature meters and pregnant testers and sold the products both in Korean and overseas markets. We expanded the product lines to sanitary pads and nursing pads on the occasion of partnering with UEC, an American distribution giant” says CEO Hong Yong-ui of Jacob Korea. The core technology of Jacob Korea, however, is on measuring instruments such as VI (Virtual Instruments) and DMM (Digital Multimeter). The company has finished the first phase development of its prototype and shows overall 80% completion. The products will enable users to choose more than 4 functions out of the common 10 functions that are used for measuring on various purposes and the devices are also portable and rationally priced. The digital thermometer exported to the US especially is designed for the needs and wants of the local consumers and it obtained a certificate from the FDA. The thermometer brought Jacob Korea USD$148,500 export sales in 2016 alone. “It takes a lot of time and effort to make a product and release it on the market. If it is a small and medium sized company, it also has to pay double the amount of effort in promoting the brand than a large company. I saw many companies went closing down during this process. Learning the lesson from this, I focused on finding good products to distribute and the markets which are in need of the products. This way, I gradually grew the scale of my business.” Hong continues “We produce products in China through OEM and export them to the US and Europe. This year, we will expand the markets to South East Asia starting from Vietnam. I think the market today requires not only the role of distribution or supply but also the buyer’s role that introduces new products to new markets. This both-way business is what Jacob Korea is working on at the moment.”
