평창 동계올림픽·패럴림픽, 국민 화합과 사회 통합의 장으로

2018 평창 동계올림픽·패럴림픽대회가 전 국민이 함께 참여하는 사회 통합적 올림픽으로 치러진다. 2018 평창 동계올림픽대회 및 동계패럴림픽대회 조직위원회는 ‘사회 통합적 평창올림픽 유산 창출 방안’을 발표했다. 세계인의 축제, 제23회 동계올림픽대회는 대한민국 강원도 평창에서 2018년 2월 9일부터 25일까지 17일간 개최된다. 대한민국 평창은 세 번의 도전 끝에 지난 2011년 7월 6일 열린 제 123차 IOC 총회에서 과반 표를 획득하며 2018년 동계올림픽 개최지로 선정되었다. 이로써 대한민국에서는 1988년 서울 올림픽 이후 30년 만에, 평창에서 개∙폐회식과 대부분의 설상 경기가 개최되며, 강릉에서는 빙상 종목 전 경기가, 그리고 정선에서는 알파인 스키 활강 경기가 개최될 예정이다. 특히, 올림픽 개최가 가져오는 사회 통합, 지역 발전 등 선순환적 효과가 부각되고 있다. 조직위원회는 평창 올림픽을 국민들의 사회 통합 인식을 높이는 기회로 활용한다. 패럴림픽을 계기로 대회 개최도시(강릉·평창·정선)의 숙식업소와 공중화장실의 장애인 접근성을 개선하고, 패럴림픽 개최 전, 제5차 장애인정책종합계획(2018년~2022년)을 발표해 사회 통합에 대한 정부 의지를 표명한다. 또한 법정의무교육인 장애 인식 개선 교육에 패럴림픽에 대한 내용을 포함하여 장애인식 개선과 대회 홍보 기회로 활용할 예정이다. 정부는 사회적 소외계층의 참여와 더불어 평창올림픽과 사회적 경제 및 지역 경제 간의 연계를 적극 추진한다. 대회 기간 중 팔도장터명품관을 운영해 중소기업, 전통시장 등의 우수제품을 판매·홍보하고, 사회적경제상품관을 통해 사회적경제기업의 제품 판매와 사후 판로 개척을 지원한다. 이와 더불어 ‘시도의 날’ 행사를 개최해 지역별 홍보관 운영, 대회 집중 관람 진행 등을 통해 개최 지역 외의 16개 시도가 함께하는 장을 마련한다. 끝으로 평화와 화합이라는 올림픽 정신을 구현한다. 대회 출전국 선수단과 지자체 결연을 통해 경기응원 등 응원단(서포터스) 활동을 추진하고, 북한이 참가하는 평화올림픽 개최를 위해 국제올림픽위원회(IOC) 등 국제기구와 협력을 지속할 계획이다.

2018 평창 동계올림픽·패럴림픽 ‘시상용품’ 공개
2018 평창 동계올림픽대회와 동계패럴림픽대회 영광의 순간을 함께 할 시상대 등 시상용품이 일반에 처음 공개됐다. 조직위원회는 국내·외 미디어를 대상으로 동계올림픽·패럴림픽 시상대와 시상요원 의상, 시상트레이, 시상품, 시상 음악 등을 공개했다. 이번에 발표한 시상용품은 디자인의 경우 전통과 현대, 동양과 서양을 융·복합시켜 대한민국의 정서와 아름다움, 정을 전 세계인들에게 전달하고, 시상식은 한국의 정서를 담은 프로그램 개발로 평창 대회만의 독창적인 경험을 제공하는데 초점을 뒀다. 우선, 시상대는 아름다운 한국 전통 건축 양식인 기와지붕과 단청, 그리고 기와지붕에 내려앉은 눈의 모습을 연상시키는 순백의 컬러를 적용했다. Victory Ceremony가 열리는 메달 플라자에서는 매일 밤 시상식뿐 아니라, 일반 선수와 선수 가족, 관중들을 위해 시상식 전·후 다양한 문화공연이 펼쳐진다. 강원도 문화공연과 넌버벌 퍼포먼스, 치어리딩, 군악대 공연, K-pop 콘서트, 드론쇼·불꽃쇼 등으로 매일 밤 화려하고 즐거운 축제로 꾸며질 예정이다. 이희범 조직위원장은 “평창올림픽 시상식은 한국적인 아름다움을 새롭게 재해석해 시각화하는 것은 물론, 평창만의 새로운 시상식 연출을 통해 선수는 물론 관람객들에게도 잊지 못할 감동의 순간을 제공할 계획”이라면서 “한국의 아름다움과 멋을 자연스럽게 전 세계에 보여 줄 수 있도록 남은 기간 철저하게 준비해 나가겠다.”고 말했다. 

88 서울올림픽에 2018 평창올림픽을 입히다
1988년 서울올림픽 기념 조형물을 2018년 평창올림픽 공식 상품으로 꾸며 동계올림픽이 임박했음을 알리고 있다. 2018 평창 동계올림픽대회 및 동계패럴림픽대회 조직위원회는 지난 달 11일 “서울올림픽 이후 대한민국에서 30년 만에 열리는 올림픽이라는 상징성을 표현하고 시민들의 평창대회에 대한 관심을 높이기 위해 서울 올림픽로 88올림픽 기념 조형물에 평창올림픽 공식 상품을 설치하는 프로모션을 선보이고 있다.”고 밝혔다. 서울 송파구청은 88올림픽 이후, 대회 개최 장소였던 잠실을 기념하기 위한 명소화 사업의 일환으로, 49개의 하계올림픽 경기 종목 조형물을 올림픽로(종합운동장~올림픽공원) 5.6km에 걸쳐 설치했다. 조직위는 이 중 22개의 조형물(원반던지기, 역도, 마라톤 등)에 대표적인 2018 평창 공식 상품인 핑거하트장갑과 머플러, 비니 등의 방한용품을 입혀, 올림픽로 이용객들에게 색다른 볼거리를 제공하고 얼마 남지 않은 올림픽 분위기를 체감할 수 있도록 이번 프로모션을 기획했다. 착용된 공식 상품은 2미터에서 6미터에 이르는 조형물의 다양한 크기를 고려해 현재 판매 중인 기성품 외에 털실 등의 소재로 특수 제작, 올림픽이 끝나는 2월 말까지 선보일 계획이다. 이용신 조직위 라이선싱사업부장은 “시민들이 평소에 다니는 도로의 조형물에서 색다른 모습을 발견함으로써 자연스럽게 평창올림픽이 다가왔음을 느끼고, 대회에 대한 적극적인 관심으로 이어질 것이라 기대한다.”고 밝혔다.

PyeongChang 2018 welcomes people of the world!
PyeongChang Winter Olympics 2018 and Paralympics welcome people of the whole world to South Korea for 17 days from 9~25 February this year. S. Korea challenged three times to win the hosting of the games and finally secured more than half the votes at the 123rd IOC General Assembly on 7 July 2011. It’s been 30 years that the Olympics staged in Korea since the Seoul Summer Olympics 1988. The hosting city PyeongChang celebrates both the opening and closing ceremonies with snow games while ice games takes place in Gangneung and Alpine ski in Jeongseon. The PyeongChang Olympics and Paralympics Committee is ambitious to use this international festival to promote world peace and social integrity as well as better facilities and policies for disabled through the ‘5 Year Plan for Disabled’ (2018~2022). Meanwhile, the Paralympic Games is to be included in the compulsory education at school in Korea. A number of traditional markets with booths are to be set up during the games in order to promote excellent Made in Korea products of small and medium enterprises. Also, the committee will bridge a sisterhood between an international team and a local government for continuous exchange while securing a peaceful PyeongChange 2018 in cooperation with the IOC on the occasion of the North’s participation. 

PyeongChang 2018 awards souvenirs unveiled!
Prior to the games, the committee unveiled the awards souvenirs to the public such as the podiums, costumes, trays, medals and music. A committee official said that the designs came from harmony between tradition and modernism and between the East and the West with a hint of Korean beauty. The committee chairman Lee Bum-hee added “The awards ceremonies will reinterpret the Korean beauty in different perspective that will plant an unforgettable images of Korea to the people of the world.” Meanwhile, various performances are to be held before and after the awards alongside a continuous flow of music, cheerleading, drone and fire shows here and there day and night throughout the games. 

From Seoul Olympics 1988 to PyeongChang 2018
In order to celebrate Korea’s holding of both Seoul Olympics 1988 and PyeongChang 2018, the committee has recently finished installations on Olympic-ro, Songpa-gu, Seoul that will mark the PyeongChang 2018 in the place where Seoul Olympics took place. Prior to this, Somgpa-gu Office installed 49 Summer Olympics statues on the road lasting 5.6km from Olympics Stadium to Olympics Park. The committee attached winter objects onto 22 statues for the passersby to join this international winter festival even with their heart if not in PyeongChang. The committee’s licensing division head Lee Yong-shin said “The installation will remind people of impending PyeongChang 2018 and it will draw more visitors to the cities where the games take place.” If you haven’t got hold of a ticket yet, hurry while some of them are still available.
