Furniture that makes sounds of nature
Furniture artist Park Young-il

“Watching and listening to the pebbles on Mongdol Beach in Jeju, rolling and mingling by the waves, make me feel like they resemble our lives. And I wanted to deliver the perfect orchestration into my works” explains furniture artist Park Young-il. The work ‘Singing Pebbles’ won the environment ministerial prize at the 2nd Korea Environmental Design Contest and also a special prize from Erik Samakh, a globally renowned contemporary artist. Park exerted his effort in shaping naturalism, our tough life and practicality into the work. To his other work ‘Trace’ exhibited at the KCDF Gallery, Insa-dong, Seoul, Park says “The word ‘trace’ can be painful for some and beautiful or precious for others. And I gave my interpretation on meaning of our lives and hope for a better future.” He also delivered his message that nature is not a thing for us to exploit but to live together in harmony through his work ‘Being – Value of Coexistence’ exhibited at the same gallery. Park takes a considerable amount of time to complete a work and tries hard to pour a life into each of his works. He does not want everybody recognizes his works but tries to communication with people in open-minded. He has his own workshop called ‘Park Young Il Wood Furniture Studio’ and is ambitious to promote junior talents in the field.
