Moon keeps pushing forward his diplomatic capabilities

Moon gives a speech at ASEAN
President Moon gave a speech at the ASEAN Business & Investment Summit held at Manila, Philippines, on 13 last month. Moon congratulated the 50th anniversary of the ASEAN and emphasized on the historical and cultural common grounds shared by Korea and the ASEAN member countries. He pointed out Korea’s ‘New Southern Policy’ aimed at raising the level of cooperation with the ASEAN members to the level of the four powerful countries surrounding the Korean Peninsula. Moon then suggested ‘3P Community’ for ‘Korea-ASEAN Future Community Plan’; 3P means people, peace and prosperity. The attendees of the summit gave a round of applause when Moon showed his will for cooperation and increasing the fund. 

Moon meets Medvedev and Lee
Attending the ASEAN+3 Summit, President Moon had a meeting with Dmitry Medvedev, Prime Minister of Russia, on 14 and they agreed to bring up various projects that can secure future growth engine including the development of the Far East. They especially focused on the on-going Korea-Eurasia FTA to be processed in speed and on deepening the Moon’s ‘9 Bridge Strategies’ brought up at the East Russia Economic Forum last September; the strategies cover 9 sectors including gas, railway, harbor and electricity. Moon emphasized substantial cooperation on agriculture as well as simplified customs clearance for Trans-Siberian Railway alongside mentioning resuming the exclusive investment contract with Hyundai Motor based in Saint Petersburg. Medvedev showed his will for a close cooperation for the Korea-Eurasia FTA as well as for LNG project in Sakhalin, modernization of shipbuilding industry in the Far East and the cooperation in marine and agricultural products. Prior to the meeting with Medvedev, Moon had a talk with Lee Hsien Loong, Prime Minister of Singapore, and they shared the same opinions on revising the Korea-Singapore FTA. 

Moon has a summit with Widodo
President Moon has a summit with Joko Widodo, President of Indonesia, at the Bogor Presidential Palace, Indonesia on 10 last month. The two leaders shared opinions on bilateral development, defense industry, infrastructure, economy and trade as well as the North’s nuclear issue. They also exchanged their views on international cooperation and adopted a ‘Joint Vision Declaration’. Moon asked Widodo to visit Korea around the end of 2018 and Widodo accepted with pleasure. The state banquet held after the summit and the subsequent signing of a MOU was attended 70 high officials and renowned figures in economy and culture of both countries.
