Made in Korea games pioneer global market
Park Chan-Yeol, CEO of TALKIE STUDIO

It is estimated that the VR market will grow to 10 billion USD by 2020 according to a report of which 45% will be taken by VR games. It was 2016 that VR games started to appear in the market but the fever did not last long as people tend to play the games one off. Lack of ‘killer contents’ also took park in deteriorating the market. Meanwhile, the Korean VR game developer TALKIE STUDIO won the grand prize with its game ‘Still Alive’ at the Korea Contents Contest held December 2016. The company was established in June 2015 and released Free Runner VR in 2017 followed by its mobile version. “We were lucky to be part of the Gwangju Global Giant VR Production Support Project’ which saved us from near bankrupt and has been the driving force of our success” says Park Chan-yeol, CEO of TALKIE STUDIO. Instead of focusing on RPG games, Park and his team focused on overseas game shows and pioneering new markets and has developed mobile and board games that can connect the users through networks. The awarding winning ‘Still Alive’ in particular avoided ‘killing others’ but put more emphasis on cooperation and co-existence as the way to survive from the zombies. The application of the VR technology also played a significant role to attract a great number of the players; the technology as well as the well-knit plot made them feel like as if they are in a real situation. “It is a must to make ‘killer contents’ to make gamers buy the expansive VR devices that will cost them around 1,166 USD alongside offering light games as cheap as 100 bucks to reduce the burden of their financial burden.” ‘Fee Runner’, however, can be enjoyed on both mobile and VR version and CEO Park also signed with a company from Thailand for the game. Meanwhile, TALKIE STUDIO participated in G-Star held in Shenzhen, China and proved the bright future of VR games. TALKIE STUDIO also was suggested a huge investment after participating in PGC and MGF held in the UK. Taking the momentum, CEO Park is pushing forward his ambition to pioneer markets in the USA, Japan, China and South East Asia over Korea with particular focus on mobile devices, PC, VR and Attraction VR.
