서울과학기술대학교 안전공학과 권영국 교수가 ‘마르퀴스 후즈후 인 더 월드 (Marquis Who's Who in the World)’ 2017년 판 세계 인명사전에 등재됐다. 미국인명정보기관(ABI), 영국 케임브리지 국제인명센터(IBC)와 함께 세계 3대 인명사전으로 꼽히는 ‘마르퀴스 후즈후 인 더 월드’는 정치, 경제, 사회, 종교, 과학, 예술 등 각 분야에서 세계적 인물 5만여 명을 매년 선정해 등재하고 있다. ‘마르퀴스 후즈후’는 현시점을 기준으로 해당 분야에서의 지위, 주목할 만한 업적 그리고 명성 등을 고려해 선정된다. 
 

인간공학(안전공학) 및 경영정보시스템(MIS)
두 분야에서 박사학위 받아
권 교수는 경희대학교 화학공학과에서 공학학사 학위를 하고, 미국으로 건너가서 미국 뉴저지에 있는 럿걸스대학교(Rutgers University)의 산업공학과에서 이학 석사학위를 취득한 후, 텍사스 텍 대학교(Texas Tech)의 산업공학과에서 인간공학(안전공학) 박사학위를 1990년에 받았다. 그리고 2005년에 연세대학교에서 경영학 박사학위를 취득하였으며, 한 과목을 제외한 전체 A+로 단과대학을 수석 졸업하는 영예도 가졌다. 권 교수는 특이하게 인간공학(안전공학) 및 경영정보시스템(MIS) 두 분야에서 모두 박사학위를 받았다. 교수 임용 후 첫 15년 간 관동대학교의 산업공학과에서 근무하였으며, 이 시기에 많은 논문의 발표와 저술활동 그리고 해외학술활동을 활발히 전개하였고, 거의 매년 해외 학술대회의 조직위원으로 활동하였다. 미국 센트럴 플로리다 대학교(UCF)와 스페인의 카탈로니아 폴리테크닉 대학교(UCP)에서 각각 객원강사로 안전공학과 인간공학 과목을 강의를 하면서 특정 과제에 참여하는 방문교수로 재직했다. 

삼성그룹 안전 문화 분야 사외 컨설턴트로 활동해
10권 이상의 저서들로 탄탄한 독자층 확보그의 경력을 통틀어 그는 3권의 "산업 인간 공학", "산업 안전 공학" 및 "컴퓨터 개론"이라는 베스트셀러를 포함한 산업공학개론, 경영정보학개론(2000) 등 10권 이상의 저서에서 그의 탁월한 지식을 제공했으며, 일반 안전 관리 및 철도 안전 관리에 관한 많은 논문들을 게재했다. 그의 저서 중 ‘산업인간공학(1996)’은 과거 대학원 중심의 교재를 학부 중심의 새로운 미국 스타일 교재로 매년 1,000권씩 재판을 찍을 정도로 많은 학생 독자층을 확보하였다. 저서 ‘산업안전공학(1996)’도 과거 국내에서 시도되지 않은 참신한 내용으로 많은 학생 독자들을 확보하였으며, 매년 1,000권씩을 재인쇄하였다.
2000년에는 핵심 인간공학과 핵심 안전공학이라는 이 분야 최초의 멀티미디어 저서를 출간하여 책과 컴퓨터로 동시에 쉽게 볼 수 있는 저서를 선보였다. 1996년부터 20년 이상 인간공학과 안전공학의 개정판을 거듭해 오다가 최근 “핵심 인간공학(2017)”과 “핵심 안전공학(2015)”을 현 시점에 맞게 다시 수정하여 출판하였다. 또한 서울 과학기술대학교 대학원에서 우수논문 수상자들을 포함한 많은 대학원생들을 배출하였으며, 삼성그룹에서 안전 문화 분야의 사외 안전 컨설턴트로 활동하고 있다.

2006, 2012, 2017 산업위험예방 국제 학술대회 등 연사로 초대
전세계 인간공학․안전공학 전문가들과 ‘국제안전자문회사’ 설립할 것
미국 텍사스 텍 대학교 학생연구상(Student Research Award)을 시작으로 최근 한국철도학회로부터 우수논문상(Distinguished Paper Award) 등을 수상한 경력이 있는 권 교수는, 2006년, 2012년 및 2017년에 개최된 산업위험예방(ORP) 국제 학술대회를 포함한 세계적 학술대회에 연사로 초대된 바 있다. 그는 안전보건 경영분야의 여러 연구과제에 매년 책임연구자나 공동연구원으로 활발히 활동하였으며, 행정안전부의 안전관리기준 시행령을 연구과제로 만들어 2010년 행정안전부 고시 2010-18호를 작성하였다. 이 법령은 안전관리기본법의 취약점을 보완한 것이다.
안전공학 분야에서 25년간 연구를 거듭해온 권 교수는 현재 삼성그룹 안전자문위원, 한국소비자안전학회 부회장 및 편집장, 한국엘리베이터학회 편집장을 역임하고 있다. 그는 또 한국소비자학회에 많은 논문들을 투고하였으며, 현재 편집장으로서 왕성한 활동을 전개하고 있다. 이 학회는 특색 있게 국문저널과 함께 영문저널을 오프라인이 아닌 온라인으로 발행하고 있다.또한, 권 교수는 미국 인간공학회(HFES) 학술대회 기술위원회의 심사위원, 스페인 직업 위험 예방(ORP) 학술대회 기술위원회의 심사위원으로 활동하고 있다. 그리고 한국소비자안전학회(KCSA), 한국안전학회(KOSOS), 한국인간공학회(KES), 한국 산업공학회(KIES), 산업시스템경영학회에서도 활동을 하고 있다. 권 교수는 가까운 미래에 전세계 인간공학․안전공학 전문가들과 함께 새로운 특색 있는 위험을 선제적으로 예방할 수 있는 ‘국제안전 자문회사’를 설립해 계속 활동을 이어나가겠다는 포부를 밝혔다.

Seoul Tech Prof. Young-Guk Kwon lists his name on Marquis Who's Who 2017
Young-Guk Kwon, safety engineering professor of Seoul National University of Science and Technology (Seoul Tech)’, listed his name on Marquis Who’s Who in the World 2017 in october this year. Received as one of the three biographical dictionaries in the world alongside the U.S. ABI and the IBC of Cambridge, England, Marquis Who’s Who selects 50,000 outstanding figures in various fields every year based on current reference values: position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field. 

Dr. Kwon majored in chemical engineering at Kyung Hee University and obtained a master of science at Rutgers - the state university of New Jersey in USA. After graduation from Texas Tech University with a PhD in Ergonomics in 1990, he obtained yet another PhD in business administration at Yonsei University with first class. Dr. Kwon worked at Kwandong University for 15 years and as a visiting lecturer and visiting professor for the University of Central Florida (UCF) in USA and the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UCP) in Spain. 

He has been active as a researcher and co-researcher every year in the field of safety and health management. He has made the Ministry of Public Administration and Safety Notice No. 2010-18 of the Ministry of Public Administration and Safety 2010 as a research project. This act complements the weakness of the Basic Law on Safety Management.

During the 25 years of expertise in his field, Dr. Kwon has written more than 10 books including the three bestsellers “Industrial Ergonomics”, “Industrial Safety Engineering” and “Introduction to Computers” and many articles on general safety management and railway safety management. “Industrial Ergonomics” especially is praised for introducing the advanced U.S. curriculum to the Korean college degree-level students and is being published about yearly 1,000 copies to meet the explosive demand. Quite recently, he published revised “Core Ergonomics (2017)” followed by the revised “Core Safety Engineering (2015)” in an answer to the ever changing trend. 

In recognition of his contribution to the field, Dr. Kwon has received many awards including Student Research Award from Texas Tech University and Distinguished Paper Award from the Korean Railway Association. He also served as an invited speaker worldwide including the ORP (Occupational Risk Prevention) international conference in 2004, 2011 and 2017. 

Meanwhile, Dr. Kwon has actively been engaging in his professional circles by affiliating himself with the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (USA), the Korean Consumer Safety Society, the Korean Ergonomics Society, the Korean Safety Society, the Korean Industrial Engineering Society, and many others. 

Alongside working as a safety engineering professor of Seoul Tech, Dr. Kwon is serving as a safety consultant at Samsung Corporation, the vice president and the chief editor of the Korean Consumer Safety Society and the chief editor of the Korea Elevator Society. 

Dr. Kwon is ambitious to establish a worldwide consulting company with worldwide friends in the near future.
