Spreading the beauty of Chungnam to the world
Ahn Jong-ho, CEO of Tourist Korea

The side effect of the THADD has brought severe damages to the Korean tourist industry. The government reduced the number of Chinese tourists to visit Korea to 8.4 million this year. But the ever decreasing number of Chinese tourists not only came from the THADDA but also from the poor services of tourist agents in Korea which were more greedy on just making profits through group shopping and poor accommodation, food and customer services. “Most of them focused on maximum profit at low cost and the satisfaction rate dropped to the bottom. So we must learn from this and have to bring quality services alongside more diversified tour programs” emphasizes Ahn Jong-ho, CEO of Tourist Korea. In fact, the low cost group tourists reduced significantly but private tourists have actually increased. According to a data, the latter prefers special tourist courses in Seoul and the capital region. In other words, the need to develop customized tour courses is required more than ever. For this, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism appointed 161 tourist agents customized for Chinese tourists and Tourist Korea is the sole tourist agent in South Chungcheong Province. CEO Ahn’s father has worked in the tourist industry for 40 years in the province and Ahn majored in tourism with huge influence from his father. By using the strong and rich networks and knowhow built for the last 20 years, Ahn has made a great contribution to development of the local tourist industry from which he secured the sole appointment from the ministry. Ahn shows his confidence in growth potential of the tourism industry of the province. “The culture and history of the Baekje Kingdom still lives in Buyeo and Gongju. The Taean County National Park, Gyeryong Mountain, Chilgap Mountain and Oseo Mountain give breathtakingly beautiful sceneries while salted fish, jumbo shrimps and clams offer ultimate taste of local specialty. Hot springs also cannot be missed as well as the Boryeong Mud Festival and the Geumsan Ginseng Festival which attract visitors from the world every year. The differences I want to make from other tourist agents are introducing unique regional tour programs that can only be experienced in the province.” As for the first step, Ahn is working on cruise line between Daesan Harbor in Seosan and Yatou Harbor in Shandong, China. “1 billion people live in Shndong and it is the nearest Chinese harbor that can be reached from Korea on the sea. As long as we build unique tour programs and infrastructure, we can surely attract many Chinese tourists departing from the harbor.” Alongside the sea line, Ahn also is planning to introduce tourist products by using the Cheongju International Airport in connection with shuttle bus services.
