Finding ‘me’ with dots and lines
Artist Lee Sang-bok
Lee has won a number of renowned prizes from the Korea-China Cultural Exchange Award, and the Grand Art Exhibition of Korea, and an exhibition in Paris with her use of oriental materials expressed by western style which she started from the 90s. Lee focuses on studying the essentials of the universe in relation with ‘me’ that is connected through ‘dots’. These elements are well presented in her works including the recent <Realization>. Participating in Contemporary Istanbul held on 13~17 September this year as a member artist of AB Gallery, Lee presented the relations between ‘me’ and ‘universe’ to both the organizers and visitors after which she was re-invited again for an exhibition. Lee expanded the value of ‘me’ who is in-between the sky and the earth with circles and lines and created <We Are Connected With Lifeline> which was praised for both artistic value and popularity. Lee pays a greater attention to the identity of ‘dots’ and makes them into circles. Like the dots tend to go back to their original positions, Lee said that she went through the process to establishing the existence of ‘herself’. As a result, Lee sees the sky and the earth as the space where love and peace reside in harmony. Lee emphasized the value of this existence through her works <God’s Tears>, <Prayer> and <Mystery of Love>. To continue her passion in art, Lee is preparing for ‘Art Paris’ held next year alongside organizing more solo exhibitions overseas.
Note: <Power Korea> “rewrites” the Korean article in English “concisely” for native English speakers and staff of foreign missions in Korea.
