Daejeon signs a nuclear safety convention
Daejoen signed a nuclear safety convention with the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute and Yuseong District on May 22 at the city hall and promised to work hard to maintain a high level of radiation safety of the city. The institute supports the environmental radioactivity measurement of the city and the district, and provides information on storage and transportation of radioactive waste, and cooperate the inspection of the citizens when necessary. The signing was encouraged by the institute’s irregular carry-in of the 1,699 used nuclear fuel rods and the illegal dump of radioactive waste. On the occasion of the signing, the city is planning to push forward the civic surveillance activities and to secure the inspection right of the local government. The mayor Kwon Sun-taik said “The signing is not about cooperation but is the starting point of recovering the trust. We are highly expecting the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute to truthfully implement the agreement and we will also introduce stricter regulations.”

Daejeon answers to 4th Industrial Revolution
Daejeon Mayor Kwon Sun-taik has taken the initiative of the Moon Administration’s pledge to promote the 4th industrial revolution-friendly cities. The city announced that it invited the heads of KAIST, Chungnam National University and the Innopolis Foundation for a meeting held at KAIST on May 24 as its first step. The attendees of the meeting discussed on promotion of related industries, building infrastructure and complex, and the implementation strategies. They then toured the KIAST and tried some of its research results. The mayor Kwon said “Using the city’s great science and technology infrastructure, the city will lead the 4th Industrial Revolution especially in the fields of IOT, AI and Big Data.” For this, the city plans to introduce differentiated strategies by gathering opinions of all walks of lives and to suggest the policies to the central government in speed. 

Daejeon backs up ‘Daejeon Nano Fusion T+2B Center’
The role of the Daejeon Nano Fusion T+2B Center is to support T2B (Tech to Business) for the 269 in-house nano-related companies. The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy appointed Daejeon to play the role to find the related businesses and pioneering overseas markets by using the advantage that the center has exhibition halls that can display nano-related products throughout the year. The mayor Kwon said “Nano technology is the base of all industries from materials and vehicles to space, aviation and medicine. It is the job of the Daejeon Nano Fusion T+2B Center to find and support the companies with excellent technologies but without capability of commercialization through the T2B. And the city and the center will closely work together to provide practical support for them to draw great results.”
