대전광역시 방사능안전 확보 '원자력 안전 협약' 체결!
대전시는 지난 달 22일 시청 중회의실에서 원자력연 및 유성구와 ‘원자력 안전 협약’을 체결하고 도시의 방사능안전을 유지하기 위해 공동 노력할 것을 약속했다. 이번 협약에 따라 원자력연은 대전시와 유성구가 주관하는 환경방사능 측정조사를 지원하고, 방사성폐기물 보관과 이송 등에 대한 정보를 제공키로 했고, 필요할 경우 대전시가 운영하는 시민검증단 감시활동에 협력키로 했다. 이번 협약은 그동안 원자력연이 고준위방사성폐기물인 사용후핵연료 무단 반입(1,699봉), 방사성폐기물 불법 폐기 등 방사능물질 관리부실 의혹을 일으킴에 따라 이에 대한 검증과 시민안전 확보 차원에서 대전시 주도로 추진됐었다. 대전시는 이번 협약을 계기로 원자력시설안전성 시민검증단 활동을 본격화하고, 추후 원자력시설에 대한 지자체 감시권을 확보하기 위한 범시민활동을 전개할 방침이다. 권선택 대전시장은 “오늘 협약은 단순한 협력을 넘어 그동안의 불신을 털어내고 신뢰를 회복하는 출발점이 될 것”이라며 “원자력연이 협약을 성실히 이행하고 향후 보다 강화된 안전기준으로 도시안전을 보장해 주길 기대한다”고 밝혔다.

대전광역시, 4차 산업혁명 특별시 조성 위해 발 빠른 행보
대전광역시 권선택 시장이 문재인 대통령의 공약인 ‘4차 산업혁명 특별시 육성’을 위해 발 빠른 행보에 나섰다. 대전시는 지난 달 24일 카이스트에서 권선택 시장과 신성철 카이스트 총장, 오덕성 충남대 총장, 이규호 대덕연구개발특구 기관장협의회장 등 관련 전문가들이 참석한 가운데 대전을 4차 산업혁명 특별시로 조성하기 위한 첫걸음으로 협치시정회의를 개최했다고 밝혔다. 이날 회의에서 대전시 관계자와 참석자들은 관련 산업 육성, 지원 인프라 구축, 실증화 단지 조성 등 추진전략에 대해 논의하고, 4차 산업혁명을 이끌어가는 카이스트 연구현장을 방문하여 연구 성과를 체험하고 공유하는 시간을 가졌다. 권선택 시장은 “우리 시는 세계적인 기술력의 카이스트, 대덕특구 등 대한민국 최고의 연구개발 인프라를 기반으로 IOT, AI, 빅데이터 등 다양한 분야에서 4차 산업혁명 선도도시로 도약할 것”이라 강조했다. 한편, 대전시는 이번 회의를 시작으로 4차 산업혁명 특별시 조성을 위하여 각계각층의 의견을 수렴하여 차별화된 전략을 마련하고 중앙 정부에 선제적으로 정책과제를 제안한다는 계획이다.

첨단 나노산업 육성 ‘대전나노융합T+2B센터’ 본격 가동
대전나노융합T+2B센터는 관내 269개 나노관련 기업을 위한 T2B(Tech to Business, 기술 사업화) 지원을 담당하고 있다. 이번 사업은 산업자원부 공모에 대전시가 선정된 것으로, 관련 수요기업 발굴, 해외 판로개척 등에 큰 도움이 될 것으로 기대된다. 실제 센터는 관내 나노기업의 제품과 기술을 전시할 수 있는 상설시연장을 갖추고 애로기술 상담, T2B 종합지원 등의 업무를 수행하며 상설시연장에서는 대전지역 나노기업의 제품과 기술을 자세히 소개하고 있다. 권선택 대전시장은 “나노기술은 모든 산업에 기반이 되는 기술로, 재료뿐만 아니라 자동차, 우주, 항공, 의학 등 응용되지 않는 분야가 없다”며 “우수한 기술력을 갖고도 사업화에 애로를 겪고 있는 대전지역 나노기업이 이번 T2B사업을 통해 사업 성공률을 높이고 시장에서 큰 성과를 거둘 수 있도록 지원을 아끼지 않겠다”고 밝혔다.

Daejeon signs a nuclear safety convention
Daejoen signed a nuclear safety convention with the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute and Yuseong District on May 22 at the city hall and promised to work hard to maintain a high level of radiation safety of the city. The institute supports the environmental radioactivity measurement of the city and the district, and provides information on storage and transportation of radioactive waste, and cooperate the inspection of the citizens when necessary. The signing was encouraged by the institute’s irregular carry-in of the 1,699 used nuclear fuel rods and the illegal dump of radioactive waste. On the occasion of the signing, the city is planning to push forward the civic surveillance activities and to secure the inspection right of the local government. The mayor Kwon Sun-taik said “The signing is not about cooperation but is the starting point of recovering the trust. We are highly expecting the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute to truthfully implement the agreement and we will also introduce stricter regulations.”

Daejeon answers to 4th Industrial Revolution
Daejeon Mayor Kwon Sun-taik has taken the initiative of the Moon Administration’s pledge to promote the 4th industrial revolution-friendly cities. The city announced that it invited the heads of KAIST, Chungnam National University and the Innopolis Foundation for a meeting held at KAIST on May 24 as its first step. The attendees of the meeting discussed on promotion of related industries, building infrastructure and complex, and the implementation strategies. They then toured the KIAST and tried some of its research results. The mayor Kwon said “Using the city’s great science and technology infrastructure, the city will lead the 4th Industrial Revolution especially in the fields of IOT, AI and Big Data.” For this, the city plans to introduce differentiated strategies by gathering opinions of all walks of lives and to suggest the policies to the central government in speed. 

Daejeon backs up ‘Daejeon Nano Fusion T+2B Center’
The role of the Daejeon Nano Fusion T+2B Center is to support T2B (Tech to Business) for the 269 in-house nano-related companies. The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy appointed Daejeon to play the role to find the related businesses and pioneering overseas markets by using the advantage that the center has exhibition halls that can display nano-related products throughout the year. The mayor Kwon said “Nano technology is the base of all industries from materials and vehicles to space, aviation and medicine. It is the job of the Daejeon Nano Fusion T+2B Center to find and support the companies with excellent technologies but without capability of commercialization through the T2B. And the city and the center will closely work together to provide practical support for them to draw great results.”
