Lee led a life in France as a lecturer and held a number of exhibitions. In fact, accessories for Lee were the things to watch at a gallery or fairs. Yet she grew a great desire and pushed it forward to the level of obtaining a PhD in metal work in Korea. Having gone through a good amount of resting period, she opened a workshop atPangyo in the city of Seongnam which led it to a jewelry brand GORI BY RUGA. Its instagram account currently has about 30,000 followers. “It is really exciting that I can make jewelries that satisfy both the artistic value and the trend. In fact, I didn’t expect this much response from the people but it is really encouraging and I’m really motivated” says CEO Lee Na-gyeom of GORI BY RUGA. It has been 17 years since Lee stepped into the enjoyment of metal work. In her dissertation‘Research on Esthetic Characteristics of Statement Jewelry’, Lee shed new light on the conception of ‘statement jewelry’that focuses on expressing one’s preference and mood. “I take ‘comfortable’ into consideration when designing jewelry with stars and the moon as the often used themes. Stars and the moon might seem so cliche but that’s because people love them no matter how long they repeat their appearance in different shapes and forms again and again. What makes GORI BY RUGA different from others then is that I give extensive effort in bringing the details.”The instagram followers of GORI BY RUGA are leaving compliments of the design and some of them even ask whether they can learn her technique. She then replies that it requires a considerable amount of time, effort and patience to achieve a desirable level. When asked about her future plan, Lee said “I’m in my late 30. As I reach 40 and 50, I guess the design might change accordingly such as using bigger beads. My clients in their 20s and 30s will also be aging like me and I could be able to follow up their change of sentiment and thus the design.”<Power Korea> sends a message of support.
