When little dried seaweed roll meets snacks

Food franchise can be seen in two perspectives: ‘red ocean’ suffering from high maintenance fees and heated up competition or ‘blue ocean’ if reading the trend in speed to introduce new items. Whether it is the former or the latter, one thing is for sure: the lifespan of food franchise has become significantly short. Located in Sillim-dong, Gwanak District, Seoul, Bunsikdaejang also started its business in worry like many others but with more a sense of confidence. CEO Lee said “Kimbab (dried seaweed roll) and snacks bars are known to be saturated already and there are no new items to capture the taste buds of people. Yet we were confident with our 10 years of experience in the field and new ideas.” Like he said, Bunsikdaejang is creating a sensation around Sillim Subway Station, where a large number of snack bars are densely lined up, within 4 months of its starting the business. ‘Price’ and ‘Taste’ are the top contributors to the success backed up by Kang’s 10 years of experience of working in food franchise around Ulsan City. 18 kinds of little Kimbab alongisde stir-fried rice cake, Korean sausage, fries and fish cakes are receiving a great feedback for their taste, quality and good price. The neat and trendy interior, the show kitchen and the excellent customer services also catch an eye of passersby while art works hung or placed here and there in the bar attracts diners’ eye. Lee said “We buy art works from ‘Avant 99’, a digital art gallery, for the use of interior. We thought art works give more sense of sophistication than the typical commercial letters scattered around walls of the bar.”

Growing together like family
Bunsikdaejang currently is preparing to go franchise that can last over 10 to 20 years. Lee said “We studied thoroughly on the franchise either failed or successful and extracted the essence of what makes a food franchise business successful.” Lee and Kang are targeting to open 5 branches within the first half of the year. All the information on costs and profits are open to partners but promising candidates must go through more than one month training on preparation and management. 3 branches are currently under construction. Kang said “Preparation is very important to make a success in business as you are likely to lose what you have invested once it gets failed. It is our firm will that not a single partner of us will close the business because of poor sales and we will give our unsparing effort for them to make a success.” Lee and Kang value growing together more than making profits and they are determined to put this principle into practice till the last moment of their business. <Power Korea> sends a message of support.
