한국교회는 130년이 넘는 역사 속에서 우리 민족의 고난을 함께 해왔다. 길을 잃고 방황하는 이에게는 길을 비춰주는 빛이 되었으며, 어렵고 힘들어하는 이에게는 따뜻하게 내밀어 주는 손이 되어왔다. 그러나 최근 언론 매체를 통해 보도되는 한국교회의 실상은 많은 이들에게 실망감을 안겨준다. 이에 이번호 <월간 파워코리아>에서는 한국교회가 나아가야할 방향을 제시하며 묵묵히 사명을 다하고 있는 한국목회임지연구소의 박현식 목사를 만나봤다.

한국교회와 목회자 간의 연결을 돕는 오작교 역할
한국목회임지연구소는 지난 2009년 4월 개소한 이래 지금까지 약 300여 명 이상의 검증된 목회자들에게 사역할 수 있는 임지를 제공해왔다. 특히 목회에 비전을 갖고 공부하는 신학생이나 목회 현장에 나가려고 기도하며 준비 중인 목회자 후보생, 현역 목회자, 목회임지를 이동하거나 기존 교회 혹은 은퇴교회의 후임자로 가길 원하는 모든 목회자들에게 보다 확실하고 다양한 정보와 적합한 목회임지를 제공하고자 힘써왔다. 연구소의 박현식 목사는 “한국교회의 수많은 목사님들로부터 임지 부임, 이동, 교환을 도와달라는 부탁을 받고 이를 성사시켜왔으며, 이에 좀 더 체계적이고 조직적으로 목회임지 의뢰자들을 도와야겠다는 필요성을 느껴 연구소를 설립하게 되었습니다”라고 설명했다. 그는 전국 1,000여 개의 교회를 직접 방문해 실사하고, 10,000여 명 이상의 목회자들과 면담하며 보다 정확한 정보를 획득하는 데 심혈을 기울여 왔다. 그리고 이를 통해 전국 및 해외 한인교회 목회자들의 원활한 임지 연결과 교환을 도왔으며, 개척교회 후보지 발굴 및 교회 간 합병, 은퇴를 앞둔 목회자의 상담과 바람직한 해결방안 제시, 후임자 소개 및 연결 업무 등을 수행해왔다. 뿐만 아니라 목회자들이 맞닥뜨릴 수 있는 다양한 문제에 대한 적합한 해결방안과 분쟁 발생시 중재안 제시, 목회자 자질향상을 위한 연수교육 및 특강 등의 활동에도 몸과 마음을 다해 헌신해왔다. 

“목회자 자신이 축복의 통로가 될 때, 한국교회는 올바른 길로 나아갈 수 있습니다”
박현식 목사는 교회에 어떤 성향의 목회자가 오는지가 중요한 만큼, 목회자가 어떤 교회에 부임하게 되는가도 중요한 문제라고 지적했다. 그는 “전국을 다니며 수많은 목회자들과의 대화를 통해 느낀 점은 자신의 목회를 불만족스럽게 느끼는 목회자가 생각 이상으로 많았다는 점입니다. 갈수록 심각해지는 교회의 양극화 현상 속에 상대적 박탈감을 느끼는 작은 교회 목회자 분들도 많았고, 교회 안에 깊이 침투해 있는 샤머니즘과 종교혼합주의도 교회의 본질을 흐리게 하는 요소가 되고 있습니다”라며 우려를 표했다. 이에 대해 그는 “이러한 문제를 극복하기 위해선 목회자 자신이 ‘축복의 통로’가 되고자 하는 마음을 가져야 합니다. 스스로의 의식 구조를 개혁하고, 바른 복음 위에 발을 굳게 딛고 서야만 진정한 오늘날 한국교회가 처한 위기를 극복할 수 있는 초석을 마련할 수 있습니다”라고 강조했다. 또한 그는 자신이 파악한 한국교회의 총제적 현실과 문제점, 한계를 사람들에게 알리고자 목회임지분야에 대한 저술 및 강연, 언론사 인터뷰, 정기적인 원고 기고를 지속하고 있다. 

또 하나 그가 주목하고 있는 것은 한국교회엔 아직도 진실된 마음으로 사역하는 좋은 목회자가 너무나도 많다는 점이다. 일부 잘못된 방향으로 어긋난 이들에 의해 한국교회 전체의 이미지가 훼손되고 있지만, 현재 곳곳에서 사역하고 있는, 혹은 사역을 준비하고 있는 올바른 마음을 가진 목회자들을 보다 그들의 목회역량을 백분 발휘할 수 있는 곳으로 이끌어 준다면 한국교회는 건강하고 발전적인 방향으로 나아갈 것이라는 게 그의 생각이다. 박 목사는 “하나님의 뜻이 무엇인가 묻고 행동한다면 가난한 자도, 억울한 자도 생기지 않는 사회를 만들어 갈 수 있으리라 믿습니다”라며, “제가 그동안 수집하고 모은 데이터들을 정리해 ‘한국교회 목회자 인재풀센터(가칭)와 한국교회 목회임지 평생연수원을 설립하는 것이 저의 계획이자 목표입니다”라고 밝혔다. 한국교회를 바른 방향으로 이끌어야 한다는 뜨거운 사명 의식으로 언제나 진심을 다하는 그의 노력이 우리 사회에 다시금 따스한 빛을 비춰주게 될 날을 기다려보자.

Bridging Korean churches and pastors
Opened its door in April 2009, the Korea Pastoral Land Research Institute has provided ideal pastoral sites and information for more than 300 pastors on which they can spread teachings of the Bible. Pastor Park Hyeon-sik of Korea Pastoral Land Research Institute said “I was asked from many pastors to give my professional advice on finding a right site for a church to be built and this prompted me to establish the institute” explained Park. He has visited more than 1,000 churches nationwide and met more than 10,000 pastors to build a data base with accurate information. The Korean pastors who have benefited from Park’s valuable advice are not only in Korea but all over the world. Park’s services cover from finding an ideal site and building a network which can link pastors globally to bringing up solutions or suggestions when a conflict occur. Park also gives a special lecture especially on improving the quality of pastors.

“Pastors must be a channel to God’s bless if Korean churches are to be in the right direction”
Park emphasized on the importance of what kind of pastor is appointed to a church and also what kind of church a pastor is to come. “I’ve talked with a lot of pastors nationwide and felt that many of them were not satisfied with their ministry. Some of them said that they felt a kind of isolation in this divided atmosphere between Korean churches and some said that the shamanistic and hybrid religious elements in the church obscured the essence of the role of churches” said Park with a grave concern. He continued “A solution I think is that pastors themselves must be a channel to God’s bless. They need to reform their consciousness and conscience first if Korean churches are to be in the right direction to God.” Meanwhile, Park is gathering his years of knowledge about pastoral land to make it published or to give interview in a way of sharing the information. Park pointed out that there are many good and sincere pastors in Korea but only some of them are ruining the images of the Korean church. “There will be no poor and no unfairly treated but only a good society if we all ask what is the meaning of God and act accordingly” said Park. When asked about future plan, Park said “I’m planning to establish a pastor resource center and a life-long training center so that I can fulfill my duty to lead the Korean church into right direction.” <Power Korea> sends a message of support.
