Cho Hyung Jun Orthopedics Clinic (director Cho Hyung-jun)
Effective primary health care for local residents
Non-surgical treatments for relief of backache

Located in Banghak-dong, Dobong-gu, Seoul, Cho Hyung Jun Orthopedics Clinic is specialized for treatment of spine and joints as well as rehabilitation and physical therapy. It is particularly well known for the non-surgical massage therapy for backache which also can help correct the body shape while also providing effective treatments for pains in wrists, shoulders and knee joints. "Many young people as well as old people today complain pains on shoulders, neck and waist caused by bad habitual pose, excessive exercise and poor working environment. The longer neglected the symptoms the worse the condition becomes and the patients are highly advised to seek an immediate treatment. And we are doing our best to give effective and the best treatment available to patients" explains Cho. Cho finds the optimum treatment methods case by case through a thorough consulting and diagnosis which normally involve drug and physical treatments, shock wave, massage and injection. Massage in particular stands out. "Hand massage eases pain on spine, joints and muscle and is especially good for chronicle pains. It also helps correct the wrong body shape. Our specialists have been providing effective hand massage and have received excellent feedback especially from elderly people and pregnant women." The hand massage lasts 30 minutes per session based on 3~4 times a week for patents to feel its effect on a gradual base.

"Prevention is more important than treatment"
Cho worked for large hospitals for a long time and witnessed many patients still complained the pain even after the surgery being successfully done. This led him to a conclusion that a surgery does not necessarily guarantee the removal of pain. "I came to think that each patient has different life style and the cause of the pain therefore must be sought case by case. This means that the treatments vary from A to Z without necessarily a surgery. Some might of course need a surgery but many other can ease the pain in different ways." The difficulty however is that the patient's complain often depends on their own view and experience. Cho says "The opinions between the patient and the doctor on the symptoms are different in most cases. This is the point where the doctor must narrow down the gap by providing professional and scientific information on the pain with preferably non-surgical methods." Cho put an emphasis on prevention of the pain. "Seating or standing in a correct pose is very important to prevent the physical pain. But the public awareness of it in Korea has rather been poor. And an effective treatment might ideally be considered in a long term perspective rather than a quick result from a surgery unless it is absolutely necessary. But the patients are highly advised to seek an advise at least from 3 hospitals especially if it is about the disc before they go for a surgery." Cho also concerned about the lack of primary health care centers in Korea as most treatments and equipments are found in large hospitals which make it difficult for small clinics to provide effective preventive advice and methods. Therefore, Cho said, the roles of primary health care centers must be enhanced for the benefit of local residents' health. When asked about future plan, Cho said that he planned to open a gym that can also function as to treat various physical pains. <Power Korea> sends a message of support to Cho and Cho Hyung Jun Orthopedics Clinic.
