대체의학의 기본적 정의는 ‘표준화된 치료 이외에 환자들이 이용하는 요법’을 말한다. 다시 말해, 증상 완화에서부터 치료를 목적으로 하여, 인간의 몸에 관한 전체적인 부분을 기반으로 쉽게 처방할 수 있는 치료법을 뜻하는 것이다. 그러나 그로 인해, 발생되는 효과가 객관적 또는 과학적이지 못하다는 이유로 아직까지 제도권 의료계에서 대체의학은 정식 인정을 받고 있지 못하는 현실이다. 현재, 전라남도 순천에서 기공 및 기 치료를 하고 있는 오영 원장은 앞으로 기본적인 치료법 이외에 사람의 마음을 어루만질 수 있는 부분이 제대로 통할 것이라고 단언한다. 치료하는 이의 좋은 기운이 치료가 간절한 이에게 제대로 전달됨과 동시에 마음까지 치유될 수 있다면 이 또한 얼마나 좋은 것인가. 오영 원장은 기공무술을 바탕으로 신체적 치유 이외에 인간과 인간 사이의 감정적 교류까지 함께 이어나가길 원하고 있다.

마음의 병을 앓고 있는 현대인들에게 희망을 주고파
오영 원장의 거처를 방문함과 동시에 한쪽 벽에 수두룩이 나열된 각종 수료증과 자격증이 눈에 띄었다. 평소 한의학과 약초에 관심이 많았던 그는 어릴 적부터 지금까지 약 40년 간 인체를 연구하기 위해 갖은 노력을 다해왔다고 밝혔다. “평소 ‘공부는 끊임없이 해야 한다.’라는 지론으로 시간이 날 때마다 스포츠마사지, 건강 지도사와 같은 자격증 공부를 해왔었습니다. 본격적으로 기(氣)치료를 시작하게 된지는 어언 16년 정도가 되었네요. 이유를 알 수 없는 병들이 자주 생겨나고 있는 현 시점에, 같은 병이라도 변이가 생겨 힘든 시간을 보내는 분들이 너무나도 많은 요즘입니다. 현대의학기술로는 해결되지 못할 마음의 병으로 인해, 대체의학을 간절하게 기다리는 분들께 희망을 드리고 싶은 것이 저의 솔직한 마음입니다.” 오영 원장은 모든 병이 심신이 약해져 오는 경우가 많으며 과한 노동 및 경제적인 사정으로 인해 병든 마음을 그대로 껴안은 채, 버티기만 하는 현대인들이 많다고 말했다. 또한, 현대의학보다 한의학 쪽으로 무게를 실어온 그는 인간이 자연에서 왔으며 자연으로 돌아가는 것이 인지상정이라고 여겼던 우리 선조들의 대체의학을 주로 참조하는 편이라고 밝혔다.
나를 기다리는 이들을 대상으로 간절하게 치료
우리에게 잘 알려진 인체의 경락은 기의 존재와 흐름의 실존을 좀 더 명확하게 해주고 있다. 곧, 기공치료가 자연의 이치와 인간의 생명유지 원리를 조화시켜 결론적으로 사람의 몸을 다스리는 것임을 입증하고 있는 것이다. 오영 원장은 오랜 기간 약물 치료를 해왔던 환자나 평소 떨림, 경련 현상으로 인해 생활에 불편을 겪던 환자를 치료한 경험담을 들려주며 질병을 물리치고 힘을 돋우는 심신단련법이 새삼 신비롭게 느껴졌다고 고백했다. 또한, 불가사의한 에너지라고 불리는 기(氣)로 불로장생과 함께, 깨달음까지 얻는 것으로 알려진 기공치료는 많은 이들에게 알려지며 특히 기공의학이 가장 발달한 중국에서 호응도가 높은 것으로 알려졌다. 중국에서도 오영 원장의 의술을 배우고자 하는 이들이 많아 오는 2월, 중국 항저우에 의술전파 목적으로 방문을 앞두며 활동의 폭을 점점 넓혀갈 것으로 기대하고 있다.
“저도 치료를 하며 놀랄 때가 많아요. 흔히 찾아오는 환자 분들을 보면 신경성, 정신적 우울로 인해 몸이 아픈 환자들이 많은 편인데 수많은 사람들을 오랜 기간 겪다 보니, 얼마나 힘들면 나와 이렇게 인연이 닿았을까 라는 생각이 먼저 들곤 합니다. 지금 저에게 있어, 나를 기다리는 이들을 대상으로 선한 마음을 갖고 간절하게 치료하겠다는 그런 믿음이 무엇보다도 중요한 것 같아요. 마음이 간절하면 손 끝부터 틀려지는 법. 치료가 되었을 때, 좋은 마음이 통했다는 생각에 너무나도 기분이 좋습니다.”

과거의 고난은 행복한 현재를 누리게 된 가장 큰 계기
젊은 시절 오영 원장은 부산에서 건설사업을 했다. 스무 살에 건설업을 시작하여 스물 다섯에 건설회사 오너가 된 그는 한마디로 건실히 일하는 청년CEO였다. 하지만 건설업을 하면서도 기공 공부를 게을리 하지 않았고 나이 마흔에 본격적으로 현장을 접고 지금의 길을 걷게 되었다. “어린 시절을 생각하면 지금도 마음이 아파요. 전라남도 신안군 약 40가구가 모여 사는 작은 섬마을에 우리 집이 있었고 너무나도 가난한 시절을 보냈죠. 그 때, 할머니도 같이 사셨었는데 아침마다 산 위에 물을 길러 가셔서 동네 안정, 우리 가족 잘되게 해달라고 기도하던 모습이 지금도 눈에 선합니다.” 공장에서 갖은 고초 끝에 건설업자로 성공한 그는 아버지에 대한 추억도 이야기했다. 그는 가난함을 물려준 아버지를 원망한 적이 단 한번도 없다고 말했으며 어린 시절 겪은 가난은 그를 강하게, 그리고 지금 이렇게 당당하게 설 수 있는 계기가 되었다고 밝혔다. “생전에 여행 한번 못 시켜드린 것이 그렇게 한이 되더군요. 지금도 많이 생각납니다. 아버님이 돌아가시기 전부터 종종 하셨던 기공치료의 뒤를 잇기 위해, 몰래 공부를 했었던 지난 날이었습니다. 지금 아버님이 하늘에서 저를 보고 계신다면 얼마나 좋아하실까요. 할머니, 아버님께 감사한 마음을 기반 삼아 한 점 부끄럼 없는 사람으로 살아가고픈 마음이 큽니다.”
진실된 마음에서부터 시작하는 치료
인터뷰 말미, 오영 원장은 “전 지구상의 발전 속에 자연은 병들어가고 있는 현실입니다. 각종 다양한 병들이 공기나 물질로 몸에 들어와 현대인을 괴롭히고 있습니다.”라고 말하며 “중국을 시작으로 일본, 덴마크 등 기공치료와 관련해 계획을 세우고 있습니다. 저의 손길을 기다리는 이들이 있는 곳은 어느 곳이든 갈 생각이며 사람들의 마음까지 어루만지는 일을 하고 싶다는 초심을 잃지 않을 생각입니다.”라고 밝혔다. 또한, 오영 원장은 언젠가는 이뤄야 할 목표에 대해 인연이 닿고 가능하다면 기공치료원을 만들어 손수 기공무술을 바탕으로 한 인재들을 양성하고 싶다고 이야기했다. “제 주위의 친지나 소중한 이들이 아픈 시간을 보낸 이후에, 치료를 받고 좋아지면 그 무엇보다 뿌듯함을 느낍니다. 또한, 이러한 활동을 이어나가기 위해선 무엇보다 스스로의 치유가 중요하다고 생각해요. 평소 의술을 하는 자는 행동부터 시작해서 해로운 것들은 철저히 멀리하는 등 착실한 자기관리가 필요하다고 생각하기에 저부터 넉넉한 마음과 성심을 다한다면 따뜻한 마음이 곧 활력소로 이어질 것이라고 믿습니다. 모든 병은 마음에서 시작하여 신경으로 도달하는 법. 저의 치료방법은 진실된 마음에서부터 시작됩니다.”

Visiting the residence of president Oh Myung, you can see many diplomas and certificates of qualification displayed on one side of the wall. He said that he has been devoted to the study of human body for 40 years since young with much interest in Korean medi-cine and herbs. “My principle was that there is no end to study, so I have studied for certificates such as sports massage and health guide whenever I have time. It is about 16 years since I practiced Ki therapy in earnest. These days there are so many people who have hard time with unknown diseases, with variation even for the same disease. I really want to give hope to those who must depend on alternative medicine for diseases of mind where modern medicine cannot find a solution.” President Oh said all diseases tend to come from weak mind and body and that there are many modern people who simply hold diseased mind because of excessive labor and economic ircumstances. Placing more weight on Korean medicine than modern medicine, he clarified that he mostly referred to the alternative medicine of our ancestors who believed that man came from nature and must go back to nature in due course.

Sincerely treat those who are turning on me

Citing his experience of curing a patient under a longtime medication or who had difficulty ineveryday life with usual tremor or spasm, President Oh Young confessed that he couldn’t but wonder at the effect of training one’s body and mind, which dispels disease and increases vigor.
Besides, Kigong therapy is known to give perpetual youth and longevity and even enlightenment with Ki, also called mysterious energy, with high response in China, which is the most advanced country in Kigong medicine. With many students who come from China to learn his medical art, president Oh is expecting to broaden his scope of activity on the opportunity of visiting China Hangzhou this February with the purpose of spreading medicine. I am really taken quite aback in giving treatment. There are many physical patients caused by neurological and mental depression and my first thought is what degree of pain it could be to finally visit me since I have experienced with numerous people for a long time. As for me, what matters most is the conviction that I should give sincere treatment to those who turn on me with goodwill. Sincere heart makes even my fingertips different and when treatment has turned out successful, I feel so good knowing that my goodwill has paid off.
In his younger days, president Oh Young did a construction business.
Starting at the age of 20 and becoming the owner of a construction company at 25, he was a young, diligent CEO in a word. Though doing construction business, however, he didn’t neglect to study Kigong and at 40 he folded up the site and started with the current career earnestly. “Thinking of my childhood, My heart still aches. My home was in a little island village of Shinan-gun Jeonnam, where about 40 families lived together. Then my grandma lived with us and even now I see her going up every morning to the hill to draw water and pray for the stability of the neighborhood and wellbeing of our family. Since he made success as a constructor after every difficulty in a factory, he also told the memory of his father. He said he had never felt sorry about his father who handed down poverty but that the poverty in childhood made him strong and served him to stand high as he is.
“I felt really sorry because I couldn’t give my father even a single trip while he was alive. I really feel sorry. My father often practiced Kigong therapy before he passed away and I studied it secretly to follow after him. How much he should feel happy now if he looked down at me from the heaven? Based on my gratitude to my grandma and father, I always think that I must lead a life most honestly.”
Treatment begins with a sincere heart.
At the end of the interview, president Oh clarified, “Despite the global advance, nature is becoming sick. Every kind of disease comes into the body with air or material to harass modern people. Starting with China, I am planning for Japan and Denmark in relation to Kigong therapy. I have my mind set to go anywhere if there are people who want to be touched by my hands. I will never lose my original intention about taking care of people’s hearts, too.” President Oh Young also mentioned his lifelong aim about Kigong therapy home where he wants to rear talents on the basis of Kiging martial arts in person. “I feel really rewarded when my acquaintances or precious people in my neighborhood get better from my treatment after a hard time of pain. Besides, to continue this career, I think it most important to heal myself. Medical person needs a solid self-management in everything from behavior to thorough abstinence from harmful things. I believe my moderation coupled with utmost sincerity will make a warm heart to lead my patients to a tonic. All diseases start from the mind and reach the nerves and my treatment starts with a sincere heart.”
