특히 서울 수도권의 아나운서 출신이자 사내 CS강사를 경험했으며, 숙명여대 대학원 언론학 석사 학위를 보유한 이 원장은 관련 업계에서도 손꼽히는 스피치 전문가로서 표준어 구사 및 발성 코칭 등을 포함한 스피치 강의로 이름이 높다. 이 원장은 “저희는 기본기에 충실하면서도, 명확하고 자신감 있는 목소리를 통해 효과적인 스피치가 가능하도록 돕는 차별화된 교육전략을 사용하고 있습니다. 메시지를 전달할 때 청각 이미지가 38%의 비중을 차지한다는 점에서 목소리는 성공적인 스피치의 핵심 요소 중 하나입니다”라고 설명했다.

열정적인 교육활동을 통해 수많은 수강생을 배출해 온 이수민 원장은 자신의 노력이 많은 이들에게 기쁨이 되었다는 것에 가장 큰 보람을 느낀다고 말한다. 그는 “처음 창원에 자리 잡을 때만 해도 ‘스피치’는 어렵고 딱딱한 것이라 생각하는 분들이 대다수였습니다. 하지만 그동안 많은 분들이 저를 믿고 따라와 주시면서 합격의 기쁨을 곁에서 함께 보고 느낄 수 있었습니다”라고 전했다. 실제로 SM스피치아카데미를 통해 다수의 미인대회 수상자가 배출되었으며, 서울대, 고려대, UNIST, 한국교원대 등의 합격생도 배출되었다. 또한 그 실력을 인정받은 이수민 원장은 올해 경남도청과 경남관광협회 주관으로 도내 2만 여명의 경영자를 대상으로한 친절교육을 총 53회에 걸쳐 실시했으며, 한국방문위원회 주관의 ‘2016 미소국가대표’로 위촉되기도 했다. 

이수민 원장의 목표는 지난 5~6년 간 쌓아온 경험과 노하우를 바탕으로 스피치와 관련된 책을 출판하는 것이다. 그리고 이를 통해 보다 효과적인 스피치 교육법이 부산, 창원, 경남 지역을 넘어 전국 곳곳으로 퍼져나갔으면 하는 것이 그의 바람이다. 이 원장은 “그동안 많은 분야에서 누구보다 열심히 활동하고, 강의를 펼치면서 제 나름 배울 수 있었던 것도 많았던 것 같습니다. 다만, 그런 제 경험과 공부의 결과물들이 일부 잘못된 생각을 가진 분들에 의해 함부로 도용되고 있는 것 같아 우려되는 마음이 큽니다”라며, “보다 건강하고 협력적인 관계를 통해 함께 노력하고, 함께 성장하는 열린 문화가 자리 잡았으면 합니다”라고 밝혔다. 또한 이에 덧붙여 “스피치란 어려운 기술이 아닙니다. ‘나’의 진솔한 이야기를 다른 사람들 앞에서 자신감 있게 표현하는 것, 그리고 이를 통해 미래의 새로운 가능성을 열어가는 것이 바로 ‘스피치’입니다. 문을 두드리는 분들에게 언제나 최고의 도움을 드릴 수 있는 SM스피치아카데미가 되겠습니다”라고 다짐했다. 성공의 지름길을 안내하는 이들의 행보를 주목해보자.
