박근혜 대통령은 지난달 15일 오전 서울 종로구 세종문화회관에서 열린 제71주년 광복절 경축식에 참석해 ‘할 수 있다’는 용기와 자신감을 가지고, ‘함께 가는’ 공동체 의식으로 함께 노력하면 우리는 할 수 있다고 강조했다.

먼저 박 대통령은 식민통치 36년의 고통과 설움의 긴 세월 동안 우리 민족은 가혹한 수탈에도 광복의 희망을 잃지 않았고, 나라를 되찾기 위해 목숨을 걸고 싸웠다며, 조국의 광복은 한반도는 물론 세계 각지에서 이념과 종교, 신분과 계층, 세대와 지역의 차이를 넘어온 민족이 하나로 뭉쳐 불굴의 투지로 이뤄낸 결과였다고 밝혔다.

이어 박근혜 대통령은 한 세기 전 우리는 헤이그에서 밀서를 품고 이리저리 뛰어도 호소할 곳조차 찾을 수 없었던 약소국이었지만, 지금은 G20의 일원으로 세계 경제 질서를 만들어가는 데 직접 참여하며 국제무대에서 주도적인 역할을 해나가고 있다며, 이것이 바로 대한민국의 저력이자 자랑스러운 현주소라고 말했다.

박근혜 대통령은 우리 내부의 분열과 반목에서 벗어나 배려와 포용으로 성숙한 시민의식을 키워나가고, 모두가 스스로 가진 것을 조금씩 내려놓고 어려운 시기에 콩 한 쪽도 서로 나누며 이겨내는 건강한 공동체 문화를 만들어 간다면 한 차원 높은 도약을 이뤄낼 수 있다고 확신한다며, 할 수 있다는 신념과 긍지를 토대로 우리 앞에 놓여있는 변화와 개혁의 과제를 완수해 내고, 다시 한 번 힘차게 도약의 미래로 나아가자고 강조했다.

아울러 박 대통령은 할 수 있다는 자신감을 가슴에 품고, 작은 것부터 하나하나 실천하면서 우리 모두가 함께 나아간다면, 지금 우리의 한 걸음 한 걸음이 먼 훗날 또 한 번의 위대한 여정으로 기록될 것이라며 우리 모두 위대한 ‘대한국인(大韓國人)’임을 가슴에 깊이 새기고, 힘을 합쳐 희망찬 미래로 함께 나아가자고 덧붙였다.

박근혜 대통령, 광복 71주년 기념 독립유공자 유족과 후손 초청 오찬 개최
박근혜 대통령은 지난달 12일 원로 애국지사와 독립유공자 유족 등 163명을 청와대로 초청해 오찬을 함께 했다. 박 대통령은 먼저 고귀한 애국심과 희생정신을 보여준 독립유공자와 유족들에게 깊은 감사의 인사를 전하며, 정부는 선열들의 독립운동 기록을 꾸준히 찾아내 그분들의 고귀한 행적을 온전히 보전하고 독립유공자를 발굴하는 데 최선의 노력을 다하겠다고 밝혔다.

또 선열들의 애국, 애민 정신이 민족의 의지를 결집시켜 일제로부터 독립을 쟁취할 수 있었고 우리 역사가 오늘까지 이어질 수 있었다며, 선열들이 조국의 독립을 위해 모든 것을 뛰어넘어 하나가 되었듯이 우리 국민 모두가 나라를 지키는 길에 하나가 될 수 있도록 앞장서 달라고 당부했다.

박근혜 대통령은 나라를 위해 목숨을 바친 선열들을 생각하면 어떤 일이 있어도 국민의 생명과 국가의 안전을 지키는 일에 타협하거나 양보하는 일은 결코 없을 것이라고 강조했다. 박 대통령은 끝으로 선열들이 목숨을 바쳐 되찾은 대한민국을 다시 한 번 도약의 반석 위에 올려놓고 든든한 안보를 토대로 평화통일의 기반을 다질 것이라고 밝혔다.

박근혜 대통령, 프란시스 거리 세계지식재산기구(WIPO) 사무총장 접견
박근혜 대통령은 지난 25일 오전 청와대에서 프란시스 거리(Francis Gurry) 세계지식재산기구(WIPO) 사무총장을 접견하고 지식재산에 기반을 둔 창조경제 실현 방안과 지식재산 분야에서의 한국과 WIPO와의 협력 방안을 논의했다. 이 자리에서 박 대통령은 창조경제를 새로운 경제발전 패러다임으로 추진하고 있다며, 이러한 패러다임의 성공을 위해 창의적 아이디어가 창업과 일자리 창출로 이어질 수 있도록 지식재산 보호를 통한 창조경제 생태계를 구축해 나가고 있다고 밝혔다.

또 전국 17개 창조경제혁신센터를 구축해 아이디어의 사업화를 지원하고, 지재권에 대한 가치를 평가해 이를 토대로 금융기관으로 자금 지원과 투자를 받을 수 있도록 하고 있다고 설명했다. 박 대통령은 WIPO가 개도국의 지재권 시스템 발전과 혁신에 기여하고 있다고 평가한 뒤, 우리나라도 개도국에서 세계 5대 특허 강국으로 발돋움한 독특한 경험을 바탕으로 개도국의 지재권 개발협력에 기여하기 위해 적극적으로 참여하고 있다고 덧붙였다.
이에 대해 거리 사무총장은 국제 지재권 분야에서 한국의 건설적이며 적극적인 기여에 감사를 표하고, 지식재산을 기반으로 경제발전을 이룩한 한국의 경험은 전 세계 모든 개도국이 본받기를 희망하는 모범사례라고 말했다.

끝으로 박 대통령은 앞으로도 국제 지식재산제도 발전을 위해 WIPO와의 협력을 한층 강화해 나갈 수 있기를 희망한다고 밝혔고, 거리 사무총장은 WIPO의 전 세계 회원국들과 한국의 협력 강화를 위해 노력하겠다고 약속했다.

Park celebrates 71st National Liberation Day
President Park attended the 71st National Liberation Day ceremony held at Sejong Center Chamber Hall on 15 August. She emphasized on communal spirit, confidence and encouragement in her congratulatory speech. “Despite the harsh and brutal 36 year long colonial rule of Japan, we never lost hope and fought for our independence regardless age, sex, ideology, religion and social status. And when we had what we longed for, the country was so devastated and we needed urgent help from more developed countries than us around that time. Now, Korea is a member country of G20 and contributes to building a better world alongside those advanced countries. But that doesn’t mean we don’t have problems anymore. There actually are many problems to solve. And can solve them through communication, consideration to others and sharing what we have with others. Change and reform come from this with which we can sail towards a promising future. I would like to add that we must not forget but always keep it in our heart that we are proud Koreans.”

Park invites men and their families of independence merit to luncheon
President Park invited 163 men and their family members of independence merit to the Blue House for a luncheon on 12 August. Park showed her respect to them and said that the government was exerting much effort in finding hidden men of independence merit and paying tribute to their patriotic deed. “Because of their sacrifice, we could be able to achieve the Miracle of the Han River and I will not compromise with anything that threatens national security. Like our patriotic martyrs fought for the country, it is now our job to bring peace and prosperity to the country.”

Park receives Francis Gurry
President Park received Francis Gurry, Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), at the Blue House on 25 August and discussed on knowledge-based creative economy and cooperation between S. Korea and WIPO. Park said that the government pushed forward creative economy as the paradigm for new economic development and protecting intellectual properties was very important to make creative ideas real. Park continued that the 17 Creative Economy Innovation Centers in Korea were providing financial and administrative support to realize these ideas and Korea, as the 5th patent powerhouse, was contributing to advancement of intellectual properties in the developing countries. Gurry in respond said “WIPO would like to show gratitude to Korea’s active participation and contribution and Korea’s knowhow and experience in intellectual property would be a role model for many developing countries.” Park answered with her will to strengthen the level of cooperation with WIPO and Gurry expressed consent. 

Park to possibly have a summit talk with Abe
The agreeable foreign ministerial meeting between Korea and Japan on 23-24 August in Tokyo has raised a mood for a possible summit talk between President Park and Shinzō Abe, Japanese Prime Minister. An influential newspaper in Japan reported that Park would attend Korea-China-Japan Summit soon to be held and Korean Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se also mentioned about the possibility within the last quarter of the year with issues on the North’s nuclear threat, security and economic cooperation.
