Sorikong programs wakes up melodies in your body
Introducing unique happy play education project of Sorinori
CEO Kim Sung-eun of Sorinori

To like is better than to know and to enjoy is better than to like. And we enjoy music to be happy and to feel how wonderful our world is. But when music becomes a tool to gain something other than the fundamental elements of pleasure, it loses its charm which is happening these days with more emphasis, for example, on perfection than indulgence. Pianist Kim Sung-eun always wanted to bring back those fundamental elements of music to our daily life and established Sorinori with her happy play education project.

The play piano with characters on the keyboard
Learning rhythm and expression through Sorikong (sound beans)

The happy play education project goes through sound dream (trying instrument), sound beans (trying the piano), sound tree (reading the notes), sound forest (understanding the harmony), sound road (performance) and M (mastering). Sorikong (sound beans) especially is designed for children aged 3 to 12 and they can enjoy the music by playing the play piano with characters on the keyboard. All the teaching materials and programs of Sorinori are unique in its own terms in Korea. “Happy childhood memories are foundations for one’s life thereafter. Sorinori is here to take part to create those happy memories through unique and fun teaching methods” explains Kim. In her book Mommy Class (2013, Bookmaker’s House), consisted of various cases between a mom and their children, Kim emphasizes on close communication. “I developed my idea from the point how children can take my methods to create the current curriculum of Sorinori. The play piano, in particular, has been a great success and I felt really rewarded by seeing children and their parents happy to play with it.” Kim and the teachers of Sorinori are using the advantages of the methods in full with the hope of creating a new paradigm in music education for children with more focus on creativity, perceptibility, understandability and expressiveness, at their research office in Gangnam, Seoul or at the center in Jangsung-dong, Buk District in Pohang. Sorinori Art Research Lab, on the other hand, is powering the programs, textbook and sound resources. When asked about future plan, Kim answered “We plan to expand our business scope to music performance and music albums so that children’s talent can naturally be led to substantial results.”
