‘Concept Note’ builds basics of mathematics
A mother who made a success in home schooling and introduced an effective teaching method by opening a math institution in February 2012 is creating a sensation in the educational world. She opened a branch of Kyowon’s Redpen Master of Math in Sinwol-dong, Seoul in March 2015 and created a sensation by making students with average scores of 40 in math achieve 97 within 3 months. To accommodate the increasing demand of the local students, she soon opened the second branch in the town in September the same year. Kyowon’s Redpen Master of Math is famous for its curriculum designed for home and institution and the method is constantly updated by a team of excellent directors of branch institutions. Apart from being the director of Sinwol branches, Jeong is the senior director of western Seoul branches and is running a branch of Tuntun English. Jeong’s talent in predicting the exam questions were well known from her university years and she points out the importance of finding out what led the student to give wrong answer to the question. To give realistic learning method to students, she devised ‘Concept Note’. “Students give wrong answer because they don’t understand the question. So the teacher’s role is to analyze why and give explanation and encourage them with effective method which is the ‘Concept Note’ in my case. It explains students the concept of the question and what answer it wants. Then it lets students try similar questions again and encourage them to establish their own goal. They can use online class as reference if they want. In this way, they can raise their learning ability and can be able to apply the method to other questions” said Jeong. ‘Concept Note’ makes clear the point by using colors: red to try again, blue to give tips to find the answer and black to lead to the point. If the student is still in obscurity, 1:1 feedback is given. “I hope more students will raise their academic performance with my ‘Concept Note’ and I will keep doing my best in finding even better methods.”
