ECHO 4S 추진전략 기반, 동남권 보건/교육산업 선도할 전문 직업인 육성

사회가 보다 고도화되고 전문화됨에 따라 학벌이나 학력보다는 능력위주 인재양성의 중요성이 더욱 부각되고 있다. 이에 정부에서는 지역과 대학의 특성 및 능력에 따라 강점분야를 집중육성, 지식기반산업 및 창조경제의 핵심 전문직업인을 양성하기 위한 특성화전문대학 육성사업을 펼치고 있다.

실용 중심의 기술실무교육, 
산업체와 교육기관 간 미스매치를 해소하다
1978년 개교한 동주대학교는 ‘진리, 정의, 창의’의 건학이념을 바탕으로 실험실습 위주의 실용교육, 유기적인 산학협력에 기초한 기술실무교육을 펼치며 지역 최고의 취·창업 선도대학으로 성장해왔다. 특히 지난 2014년 ‘특성화전문대학육성사업(SCK)’에 선정된 이래 ‘ECHO 4S’의 추진전략을 바탕으로 동남권 보건/교육산업의 핵심 직업인을 양성하고자 교육과정 개편과 전문성 강화, 지역 산업체와의 협력체제 구축, 글로벌 경쟁력 향상 등 다양한 노력을 펼쳐왔다. 동주대 특성화전문대학육성사업단의 정규명 단장은 “ECHO 4S란 국가직무표준인 NCS를 기반으로 하는 교육과정 운영사업(Education), 창조적인 직업인을 육성하기 위한 교육사업(Creativity), 지역 산업체와의 연계와 맞춤형 취업지원에 기반 한 ‘Hub-Campus 구축사업’ 및 ‘취·창업지원사업(Occupation)’을 말합니다. 저희 사업단에서는 이들 사업이 원활하게 진행되고, 이를 통해 실질적인 성과를 창출할 수 있도록 전폭적인 지원과 노력을 아끼지 않고 있습니다”라고 밝혔다.

실제로 동주대 사업단은 지난해 이미 성공적인 사업수행의 성과를 높이 평가받은 바 있다. 사업단은 특성화사업의 핵심성과지표인 취업률 80%를 달성하기 위한 전략으로 ‘Hub-Campus 구축’을 추진해왔다. 취업대상 기업을 대상으로 취업마케팅전략을 수립 ‘기업맞춤형 취업지원사업’을 운영했으며, 현장실습과 취업을 연계하는 프로그램 운영을 통해 현장실습동일업체에의 취업률 향상에 주력했다. 그 결과 2014년 취업률 69.1%를 기록하며 2000명 이하 나군에서 부산지역 1위, 전국 5위를 달성했고, 2015년 교육부 주관 특성화전문대학육성사업 연차평가에서 ‘우수대학’으로 선정, 지난해 대비 사업비 10% 증액의 결실도 일구어냈다. 

또한 동주대는 산업현장에서 직무를 수행하기 위해 요구되는 지식·기술·소양을 국가적 차원에서 표준화한 NCS(국가직무능력표준, National Competency Standards)에 발맞춰 2014년 24개 전 계열·학과의 교육과정을 100% NCS 기반으로 개편, 재학생의 직무능력향상에 주력해왔다. 그 결과 ‘2014 CIDESCO 대회’ 보건복지부 장관상 및 120명 수상과 ‘2015 IBO미용대회’ 국회의원상 및 77명 수상, ‘2014 대한민국 국제요리대회’ 라이브코스에서 대상인 통일부장관상 및 15명 수상 등 각종 전공별 전국경진대회에서 총 377명이 수상하는 쾌거를 달성했다.

글로벌 창의인재의 산실, 전국 Top 10 전문대학을 목표로
국내 기업의 해외진출이 눈에 띄게 활발해지고, 사업 분야가 점차 해외시장으로 확장됨에 따라 글로벌 역량을 갖춘 인재의 양성이 대학의 중요한 역할이 되고 있다. 정규명 단장은 “NCS 기반의 현장직무중심 교육과정을 이수한 우리 학생들이 전 세계의 다양한 직업현장에서도 업무를 성공적으로 수행하기 위해선 글로벌 경쟁력을 갖출 필요가 있습니다. 저희는 전공능력에 덧붙여 글로벌 에티켓과 글로벌 마인드를 함양함과 동시에 외국어 역량과 리더십 등 다양한 역량과 자질을 향상시키기 위한 글로벌 역량강화사업을 추진하고 있습니다”라고 밝혔다. 이에 동주대에서는 지난 여름방학 자매학교인 미국 시애틀의 Pierce College에서 30명, 중국 윈난성 윈난외사외어직업학교에서 8명, 일본 오사카외국어학교에서 17명의 재학생이 해외 어학연수 프로그램을 이수했으며, 2013년 12명, 2014년엔 29명의 졸업생이 해외취업에 성공했다. 동주대는 교육부 주관 ‘글로벌 해외현장학습 지정대학’, 고용노동부 및 산업인력공단 주관 ‘K-MOVE 스쿨사업’, ‘지역맞춤형 일자리창출 지원사업’, 부산시 주관 ‘대학 학과별 맞춤형 지원사업’에 선정되기도 했다.

정 단장은 “저희 동주대학교는 지난해 특성화전문대학 출범식을 갖고 국내뿐만 아니라 세계와도 경쟁할 수 있는 고등직업교육기관으로서의 역할을 수행하고자 최선의 노력을 다하고 있습니다. 특히 오는 2018년, 개교 40주년을 준비하며 ‘전국 Top 10 전문대학’의 목표를 달성하기 위해 행정과 재정, 교육 인프라 개선에 관한 세부 발전계획을 세우고 착실히 이행하고 있습니다”라고 밝혔다. 이에 덧붙여 그는 대학의 비전에 따른 목표 달성을 위해 학생중심·취업중심의 특성화사업을 지속적으로 펼쳐나가겠다고 다짐했다. 

대학과 지역사회, 산업체 간의 상호협력을 통해 서로가 Win-Win하는 전문대학의 새로운 역할모델을 창출하고 있는 동주대학교 특성화전문대학육성사업단. 전국 Top 10을 향한 힘찬 발걸음을 내딛고 있는 동주대학교가 국내를 넘어 세계를 선도할 창의적 전문인재 양성의 요람이 되기를 기대한다.

Practical curriculum and field-centered education
Connecting students to industry
Opened based on ‘Truth, Justice, Creation’ in 1978, Dongju College has been providing practical education and industry-academic cooperation. The college was chosen for SCK in 2014 and has built cooperative system with regional businesses and improved global competitiveness. It also strengthened specialized training based on ECHO 4S promotion strategy. Director Jeong says “ECHO 4S means ‘Education’ project based on NCS, ‘Creativity’ to foster creative manpower, ‘Hub-Campus’ for customized industry-academic cooperation and ‘Occupation’ for job support. Dongju College SCK is providing unsparing efforts in supporting and drawing substantial results through ECHO 4S.” The college had a good score last year for its implementation capability of the project. Hub-Campus in particular aims to achieve 80% employment rate. For this, SCK has run ‘industry-centered job support project’ and ‘field experience programms’. As a result, Dongju College achieved 69.1% employment rate in 2014, won the first place in Busan (fifth nationwide) and was chosen as excellent college at SCK assessment by the Ministry of Education in 2015. It also received 10% more project fund from last year. In accordance with NCS (National Competency Standards), Dongju College reorganized the curriculums based on 100% NCS-based in all 24 majors. As a result, Dongju College received Ministerial Prize from the Ministry of Health & Welfare alongside 120 students’ winning an each prize at ’2014 CIDESCO’, Lawmaker’s Prize and 77 prizes at ‘2015 International Beauty Olympics’ and Ministerial Prize of the Ministry of Unification and 15 prizes at ‘2014 Korea International Culinary Competition’ (total 377 students). 

The hub of global talents aim to be Top 10 colleges 
Director Jeong says “We are promoting students’s global competitiveness so that they can spread their NSC-based skills and techniques in the world. Also, we try to equip students with global mind and etiquette as well as foreign language competency and leadership.” Many students completed language courses at sister schools including Pierce College in Seattle, US (30), Yunnan Oesaio Vocation School in Yunnan, China (8) and Osaka Foreign School in Japan (17). As a result, 12 graduates in 2013 and 29 in 2014 had a job overseas. Dongju College also was chosen as ‘Global Field Experience Appointed College’ by the Ministry of Education, ‘K-MOVE School Project’ and ‘Customized Regional Job Creation Support Project’ by the Ministry of Employment & Labor and the Human Resources Development Service of Korea as well as ‘Major-based Support Project’ by Busan City.

Director Jeong says “Since our launching of SCK last year, we have been doing our best to play the role as a vocational training institution that can compete with global institutions. On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the college in 2018, we aim to be top 10 colleges in Korea and is actively providing support activities in administration, budget and educational infrastructure.” Power Korea hopes that Director Jeong and Dongju College SCK will achieve their goal and contribute to development of industry-academic cooperation.
