동화 <단추로 끓인 수프>는 성공하기까지 수많은 사람들의 잠재된 능력을 끌어내는 단 하나의 모멘텀만 있으면 불가능해 보이는 일도 일사천리로 해결된다는 진리를 알려준다. 자원봉사도 스펙의 한 종류가 된 지금, 누구에게나 자신만의 콘텐츠와 브랜드를 만들어갈 의지는 있지만 어떤 단추를 골라잡아야 할지 방법과 노선조차 막막할 때가 많다. 이에 청년들에게 자기 자신을 기획하고 성공시킬 플랫폼을 제공하는 크리노베이션링크 변준영 대표의 방법론을 들어 본다.

‘결핍’은 ‘대안’을 찾아낼 가장 중요한 단서이다

국내에서 가장 명성 있는 청년단체 중 하나인 <한국대학생재능포럼>을 통해 재능기부와 공익, 대학생들의 지적 가치창조에 앞장섰던 창립자 변준영 대표가 더욱 체계적인 이벤트 기업으로 재도약을 시작했다. “그동안 학업과 취업준비에 치중해 자신이 사회에 어떻게 존재하고 기여할지에 대해 진지한 성찰이 부족한 상태에서 미래비전을 생각해야 하는 일이 많았다. 1년 간 미국연수를 다녀오며 커뮤니티 학생회 단체를 통해 미국의 많은 대학생들이 국가가 해결하지 못하는 이슈를 다루고 사회구성원으로서 임무를 수행함을 알게 되었다.”

그래서 이런 사회적인 일들에 대한 플랫폼을 만들고자 21세 때 NGO 활동을 겸하며 <한국대학생재능포럼>을 만들게 되었지만, 아르바이트만으로는 활동에 필요한 자금을 충당하기가 어려웠다고 한다. 더욱이 청년을 활용하고 동원하려는 시민단체가 의외로 많아, 변 대표는 청년들의 입장에서 지속 가능한 모델을 고려해 좋은 대안을 찾아냈다. “2014년 크리노베이션링크라는 이름으로, NGO와 비슷하지만 안정적인 수익모델을 창출해 전문가와 청년층을 연계하는 사업을 출범했다. 처음에는 공익행사나 지자체 행사, 교육으로 수익을 내기 시작해 청년 역량강화 프로그램으로 안정화시켰고, 나중에는 기업을 대상으로 한 서포터즈, 기자단, 블로그마케터 등 대행사의 업무를 맡아 수익을 내고 있다.”

변 대표는 그동안의 시스템과 인맥을 발휘해, 다양한 분야에 재능을 가진 청년들을 공익사업에 진출시키고, 이들이 현역 프로들의 멘토링으로 이벤트와 미디어 콘텐츠 제작자로서의 잠재력을 발휘하도록 발굴 프로젝트도 진행했다. 또한 변 대표는 전문가들의 무보수 재능기부가 종종 악용되어 재능기부 지원자가 점차 줄어드는 현상을 극복하기 위해, 일정한 비용부담을 통해 긍정적인 방향으로 사업화을 발전시켰다. 한 마디로 부족한 것으로부터 기획력과 발굴능력을 동시에 이끌어내는 시스템을 만들었다고 볼 수 있다.

앞으로 청년들의 재능을 취업, 창업으로 유도할 시스템을 제공할 것

변 대표는 크리노베이션링크를 통해 총 4가지 업무를 수행중이다. 엔터테인먼트 기획과 운영, 공익이벤트 기획과 운영, 그리고 청년사회공헌 프로그램 기획과 운영, 공연 페스티벌 기획으로 각각의 콘셉트가 있어 청년사회문화를 발전시키면서 그들의 전문역량을 적재적소에 배치하는 안내자 역할을 한다. 기업과 정부기관의 사회적 책임을 바탕으로 한 기획프로그램에 참여함으로써, 이들과 청년층 모두에게 시너지를 내는 효과도 기대할 수 있다. “멘토링식 교육프로그램을 넘어서, 인재를 발굴하는 프로젝트가 궁극적인 목표이고 인재가 모이면 체계적인 콘텐츠를 만들게 될 것이다.”

문화적인 영향력을 발휘하는 콘텐츠 제작도 진행 중이며, 이에 따라 그동안 기부문화를 주제로 연극 <행복배달부 우수씨>를 제작하고 2014년부터 매년 국회의원 캐롤 앨범을 제작하는 등 꾸준히 성과를 내고 있다. “청년들끼리 모인 에너지를 활용하기도 하지만, 현직 프로종사자나 유명인들이 나서주면 반응이 더 폭발적이다. 그래서 현역 영화인들의 도움을 받기도 했다. 뮤직비즈니스 인재발굴 프로그램에서는 시뮬레이션 형식으로 인디 뮤지션을 소속시키고 인디 레이블을 창업해 공연, 음반발매, 매니지먼트 운영으로 결실을 맺는 과정을 실행해보기도 했다.”

크리노베이션링크의 콘텐츠 제작에서 독창성이 엿보이는 부분은 단연 창업 시뮬레이션이다. 다양한 직종의 창업을 전문가들의 도움으로 미리 하는 것으로서, 노하우를 쌓아 실전에 적용하며 성장의 디딤돌로 삼도록 하는 창조적 사업이다. “한국의 대학생은 약 300만여 명이나 된다. 이들이 모인 곳에는 다양한 비즈니스 모델이 나와야 한다. 대학생은 학원 수강생이나 문화콘텐츠 소비만을 위한 계층이 아니라, 성장을 위한 소비자이며 창조자이기도 하다. 그렇기에 여기서 블루오션의 가능성을 보았다. 이것을 직무역량 강화 프로그램으로 연계하도록 브랜딩하고 매니지먼트하는 회사가 바로 크리노베이션링크다.”

이들은 교육과정이 아닌 워크샵 방식으로, 대관식으로 공간을 해결하고 현재 6개월 과정으로 금융, IT, 광고 산업, 웹툰, 영어 등 7개 프로그램을 운영하며 기획하는 분야는 점점 늘어날 전망이다. “단순 스토리텔링만으로는 부족하다. 지금은 거기에 셀프 히스토리능력이 추가되어, 취업 희망자와 프리랜서 전문가들이 온라인에서 자신을 브랜딩할 수 있는 기술, 얼마나 능력 있는지 알릴 수 있는 플랫폼이 반드시 필요할 것이다.”

바야흐로 이제는 스펙이 아닌 셀프 브랜딩 창조자들의 시대다. 이들이 당당히 설 플랫폼의 중심에 바로 크리노베이션링크가 함께할 것이다.

Scarcity is the most important element when finding an alternative

CEO Byeon has taken the initiative in talent donation and promoting university students’ intellectual value through KUAF which is one of the most famous youth organizations in Korea. He says “Many Korean students are rather focusing on securing good school records and a job while neglecting on thinking about one’s own life and a social role. During my one year stay in the US, I learned how American students participate in social activities through various community groups or youth organizations.” Byeon then made KUAF at the age of 21 when he was working for NGO. But he had to face a financial difficulty to run the organization. Also regretful was the fact that many civic groups rather used students for their own advantage. Byeon continues “These were the reason I launched Crenovation Link last year. It’s similar to NGO but it can create steady profits by connecting industry specialists to students. We started to make profits through public and educational events but are now making profits by playing the role of supporters, reporter groups and blog marketers for companies.” Through this, Byeon has found many talented students in various fields and connected them to the related industry and supported them to be event and media contents producers with the help of industry specialists. He also pointed out the bad practice of using talent donation and changed the system for donators to receive a reasonable pay.

Providing a youth support platform

Crenovation Link is providing services in 4 areas: entertainment planning & management, public event planning & management, youth social contribution program planning and performance & festival planning. Crenovation Link is participating in various projects of both government and companies to create synergy effect with students. CEO Byeon says “I aim to find talented students over just providing mentoring for them because these students will make me create systematic contents.” Crenovation Link made a play ‘Mr.Woosu, the Happiness Deliverer’ to promote social contribution and is producing a National Assembly Carol Album since 2014. Byeon says “People like it more when a famous figure participates in our contents so I actually received some help from famous actors. By using a simulation platform, I also made an indie label and provided management services such as promoting albums and concerts in the hope of finding more music talents.” Crenovation Link’s simulation program is very creative as people can be able to try their ideas beforehand. Byeon says “There are about 3 million university students in Korea. This means that they should create a variety of business models as they are both the consumers and the creators of cultural contents. It is our job to help them make their ideas commercialized and to provide professional management.” At Crenovation Link, students can have workshops, borrow a space and can participate in 7 programs in finance, IT, PR, webtoon and English and more will be introduced. Byeon says “Just giving a storytelling is not enough. Students need history ability in order to commercialize their ideas or brand and we will provide an ideal platform for them.” Some people still believe in building a good academic background for a success but this age is becoming to value more of the skills of commercializing one’s own ideas. In this respect, Crenovation Link will take great part in promoting university student’s ideas and talent.
