People use chemical additives or remodel the electronic parts of a car to improve fuel efficiency and output. But the fundamental and effective solution have to be upgrading ECU (Engine Control Unit) that functions as the brain of a car. It is loaded with software that controls combustion, ignition, explosion and exhaust and it tunes the engine, power-train and the whole length of a car. Electronic control system of output, fuel injection and time and turbo is ideally set up in each car. CEO Kim says “90% drivers want mapping due to output values. Many think that high output lowers fuel efficiency but ‘remapping (ECU software upgrading)’ can increase output and fuel efficiency at the same time. This technology was independently introduced at the start of diesel cars. The ECU of diesel engine is closely related to fuels and mass produced cars only need to change the software as they are released through upward leveling. It’s same as tailor made clothes.” Kim continues “70% of ECU is produced by Bosch, Delphi, Siemens and Continental. If you step on the accelerator by 30% in general, we do mapping to increase output and efficiency within the boundary of 0 and 30.” Kim takes the driver’s habit into account when mapping and constantly studies on new models and fuels to make date for ideal tuning. It means that you can maximize your car’s performance through remapping. 

Leading mapping culture recognized with popularity and professionalism 
In the hope of creating a new market for engine upgrading, Kim established Remapping Lab Space last January and has signed business tie-up with various related companies in Miryang and Gwangju, Gyeonggi Province for output test and test driving. Mercedes Benz Brabus and BMW Alpina are officially providing the mapping services overseas but Korea is still at the beginning stage. For this reason, Kim uses SNS and viral marketing to increase the recognition. Kim prefers customized mapping rather than output improvement mapping only. Kim says “Not everybody can afford an imported car and each driver is different. For this reason, our main focus is on providing customized services. A small group of specialists in Korea prefer improved vehicle performance and we think the same.” If car market is divided into sales and repair, 16bit ECU is now commercialized and 32bit is scheduled to come out soon. Higher model of BMW and Mercedes in particular is to use two ECU in a car and upgrade on software, therefore, is a global trend. Kim says “Our customer satisfaction rate is very good. AUDI A6, for example, can run a return journey between Seoul and Busan plus half day drive on full petrol after ECU mapping. You have to normally refuel your car at Yongin otherwise. You can feel your car running faster and also amazed at good milage.” Meanwhile, Kim is working really hard on technology development, marketing and OBD2 System that will soon be commercialized thanks to smart phone and IoT. Also, Kim is working with meisters of official Mercedes service center who have more than 8 years of experience in the field to create related contents as well as finding cooperative companies overseas. Kim says “Car tuning was based on hardware but ECU mapping will bring a new era in the field.” Power Korea hopes that Kim will contribute to development of ECU mapping technology in Korea.
