건강한 미래 이끌어갈 글로벌 간호인재 양성

1952년 설립된 충남대학교는 ‘창의, 개발, 봉사’의 교육이념 아래 국가 발전을 이끌어나갈 우수 인재를 배출해 온 중부권의 명문대학이다. 특히 대한민국의 중심인 대전에 위치, 최고의 연구·교육 여건과 역량을 바탕으로 글로벌 경쟁력을 갖춘 대한민국 No.1 대학을 향해 성장을 거듭하고 있다. 그 가운데서도 간호대학은 지난 8월, 전용건물인 교육실기센터를 개관하며 국내 간호학 발전과 지역 의료서비스 향상을 위한 노력에 박차를 가하고 있다.

대학발전의 토대가 될 교육실기센터 개관
충남대학교 간호대학은 1970년 개설된 이래, 지난 45년 간 보건의료 분야의 우수한 전문 인재 양성에 매진해왔다. 특히 한강 이남에서는 최초로 개설된 간호학과로서 지역의료발전의 중심축 역할을 해왔으며, 1994년 간호학 박사과정과 2003년 4개 전문간호사과정을 개설, 2009년에 이르러 정식 간호대학으로 승격되며 보다 체계적이고 전문적인 간호교육을 펼치고 있다. 박인숙 학장은 “저희 간호대학에서 배출한 2,800여 명의 졸업생들은 국내는 물론 미국 등지의 다양한 보건의료현장에서 그 능력을 인정받고 있습니다. 또한 2005년 최우수대학 인증과 함께 간호대학으로 승격된 이후 2013년에는 한국간호교육평가원으로부터 간호교육프로그램의 우수성을 인증받았습니다.” 라고 전했다.

이번 간호대학 교육실기센터 완공은 지역 의료인들과 간호대학 졸업생들, 전 교수진들의 염원이 모아진 결과라 볼 수 있다. 충남대 간호학과 2회 졸업생이기도 한 박인숙 학장 또한 제자이자 후배들이 좀 더 좋은 환경에서 교육받을 수 있도록 많은 노력을 기울여왔다. 그는 “간호학과가 개설된 지는 45년, 간호대학 설립도 6년이 지나 정원이 많이 늘었지만, 그동안 독립된 공간이 없어 교육활동에 어려움이 많았습니다. 이번 전용건물 완공을 통해 전문 지식과 능숙한 간호술기, 따뜻한 인성을 갖춘 보건의료인 배출의 토대를 만들고자 합니다”라고 밝혔다.

시뮬레이션센터로 최적화된 간호실습환경 구현
충남대 간호대학은 올해 초 실시된 ‘제55회 간호사국가시험’에 108명 전원이 합격하며 100%의 합격률을 기록했다. 이처럼 우수한 성적을 올릴 수 있었던 까닭은 임상 실습을 위한 시뮬레이션센터 운영과 함께 해외 간호대학과의 국제교류로 간호술기의 선진화를 추구하고 있기 때문이다. 박 학장은 “실력 있는 간호사가 되기 위해선 임상 현장에서의 실습을 통해 경험을 쌓는 과정이 반드시 필요합니다. 하지만 최근 병원환경에서는 학생들이 환자들에게 접근하는 것이 쉽지 않죠. 저희 충남대 간호대학의 시뮬레이션센터에서는 실제 병원과 같은 환경을 만들고 학생들이 핵심 간호 술기를 익힐 수 있도록 돕고 있습니다”라고 설명했다. 또한 충남대 간호대학은 SCI급 논문을 등재하는 등의 우수한 연구능력을 가진 교수진을 갖추며 수준 높은 교육을 제공하고 있다.

박 학장은 간호사에게 있어 가장 중요한 것은 사람을 이해하고 공감하는 능력이라고 강조했다. 그는 “간호학은 건강상의 어떤 문제를 가지고 있거나 또는 문제가 발생할 가능성이 있는 대상자들이 건강을 회복하고 유지, 증진할 수 있도록 돕는 학문입니다. 때문에 저희는 인성을 기본으로 지성과, 탁월한 간호실무 수행력을 교육목표로 삼고 있습니다”라고 밝혔다. 이에 덧붙여 그는 “세월이 흐르면서 교육과정은 많이 바뀌었지만, ‘나눔과 배려’라는 간호학의 기본적인 속성은 그대로입니다. 학생들이 학교에서뿐만 아니라 가정과 병원, 자신이 일하는 곳 어디에서나 나눔과 배려를 실천할 줄 아는 간호사가 되기를 바랍니다”라는 바람을 전했다. 교육실기센터의 개관과 함께 새로운 시작을 열어갈 충남대학교 간호대학이 국민보건 증진을 위해 봉사하며 노력하는, 전국 최고의 간호대학으로 거듭나기를 바란다.

Fostering global nurses

Vision of College of Nursing is fostering global nursing leaders of ethics-empathetic competency, evidence-based competency, and excellent clinical competency. Department of nursing was established with baccalaureate nursing in 1970 and College of nursing was established in 2009. The purpose of our nursing curriculum is to educate nurses with professionalism and leadership who can provide scientific knowledge based on caring with therapeutic communication and empathy to promote public well-being. 

It has been playing an important role for regional development in the southern part of Seoul. The university opened master program in nursing in 1974, and doctoral program in nursing in 1994. From 2003, we have 4 advanced practice nurse programs for hospice, psychiatric mental health, gerontological, and critical care nursing. Park says “Our 2,000 graduates are working not only in Korea but all over the world. Our curriculum also was approved as excellent by Korea Accreditation Board of Nursing Education in 2013.” The recent completion of College of Nursing building is a result of hard work from nursing professors, undergraduate and graduate students and their families, and alumni. Park actually is a second graduate of the college of nursing (it was department of nursing at that time) and is working with particular affection and passion for this reason. She says “We had to endure the inconvenience of lack of space but new building will compensate our patience and will enable us to grow to be the top in the field.”

Realizing optimized clinical nursing training at Simulation Center
This year, all 108 nursing students of the college passed The 55th National board examination for Nursing licence. This achievement was made by effective teaching and learning, clinical training at the simulation center as well as clinical placements with up-to-date technical support and prepared faculty at the college of nursing. Park says “effective clinical training during the school years is one of the important elements to be a qualified nurse. Our Simulation Center, which is designed to be similar to the hospital environment, gives an opportunity for students to practice their clinical skills and knowledge as if they were practicing in the hospital setting.” “We also focus on growing nurses who are compassionate to patients and family by highlighting the importance of good communication skills.”  

The college has excellent professors who are caring about students and working hard on their research projects. Our faculty has good track record of publishing articles in good journals recognized by national and international researchers. 
Power Korea hopes that College of Nursing in Chungnam National University will be the top in the field in near future.
