Providing quality rice and grains for healthy eating
CEO Hyunjin Na of ‘Rice(agricultural corporation)’

The value that good rice provides us
‘Rice(agricultural corporation)’ for busy modern Koreans means more than just a meal. It gives comfort and satisfaction. For this reason, Koreans are eager to have a really good bowl of rice. Reading the demand, CEO Hyunjin Na of ‘Rice(agricultural corporation)’ is satisfying many Koreans with quality and trustworthy rice which is provided at a competitive price through simplifying the distribution system. Na said “We eat rice or grans every day and we provide the best rice and grans available to people.” Na polishes rice on a daily basis and said “‘Rice(agricultural corporation)’ starts to acidify when polishing and gradually loses nutrient, resilience, glutinosity and water. This means that we had better consume the polished rice within 2 weeks.” Na starts polishing the rice the moment he receives it and also has minimized mid-distribution in order to provide his quality rice faster and at a cheaper price. Na also buys and keeps Ilmi and Senuri freshly. Storage process of rice is as important as the breed of rice. Na keeps rice and grans in DSC in order to keep them to contain 15%-16% of moisture which is the freshest quality of grains and regularly checks up on ratio, protein and amylose. ‘Rice(agricultural corporation)’ sold in supermarkets has less freshness and quality than Na’s rice due to long distribution system and poor quality management.

Secondary polishing to make the best quality rice
Polishing rice has two processes: removing foreign bodies and peeling the husk. The rice done with the first polishing is separated into each size through 8 stages followed by another separation based on color to remove foreign bodies and damaged grans. CCD camera and vibration screen is used for this separation and Na does this process two times to have the best quality rice. He said “The longer the polishing the lower the harvest rate. But I’m more focused on quality than quantity.” Na provides 100% Korean rice and grans and imports super foods like oats and lentils for a healthy food table. All of the products are thoroughly managed in cool temperature through a strict health & safety control.

Making globally competitive products
Na has a 7 year experience in rice distribution. His father worked in supplying food materials for 20 years and Na learned from him the distribution knowhow. He started online distribution of rice in 2009 but soon established his own business in the hope of improving the domestic rice distribution system. His goal was clear: to make globally competitive Korean rice and grans. For this, Na introduced vibration screen and color sorting machine and created a system for on-the-day polishing, direct delivery and 60 day guarantee policy with which consumers can exchange or get a refund. Na said that securing global competitiveness was very important for Korean farmers to survive in this age of FTA. Currently, he is preparing to expand his product lines covering even marine products as well as light healthy snacks like calorie bars. With his innovative ideas and continuous social contribution, Na is highly expected to create a better rice and grans distribution system that can surprise not only Korean people but the world.
