전통적으로 뷰티학원이 강세를 보이고 있는 영등포에서 서울시가 개최한 지방기능경기대회에서 1위를 기록한 MBC아카데미뷰티스쿨 영등포캠퍼스는 청소년 공익에 앞장서는 뷰티 전문기관이기도 하다. 미용과 사회공헌의 연계점을 찾아 진로설정과 취업, 체계적인 수강생관리로 얻어 온 10년간의 명성이 바로 영등포캠퍼스의 경쟁력이다.

MBC아카데미뷰티스쿨 영등포캠퍼스에서는 세 가지 특화된 장점으로 수강생들을 맞이하고 있다. 올해 개원 10년을 맞아 서울시 지방기능경기대회에서 1위를 수상해 영등포의 No.1 뷰티아카데미라는 자존심을 지킨 것이다. 또한 2015년을 새로운 10년을 시작하는 원년으로 정하고 뷰티 트렌드를 선도하는 아카데미임을 다시금 알리기 위해 캠퍼스 시설을 전면 리모델링했다. 그리고 영등포캠퍼스만의 독창적인 프로그램을 구성하여 수강생들과 지역주민들을 적극적으로 소통하도록 하고 있다.

KBS VJ특공대에 소개되고 연 12회 개최되는 <네일 살롱데이>는 참가자들에게 무료 네일아트 서비스를 하여 수강생들의 실력을 업그레이드하고 일반인들에게 뷰티 아카데미의 이미지를 높이는데 기여하고 있다. 또한 수강생들과 강사진들은 문화체육관광부의 주관으로 열린  광복 70년 전야제에서 참가자들의 헤어 및 메이크업을 담당해 실전 경험을 쌓고, 인천 아시안게임의 개막식과 폐막식에 참가해 실력을 발휘함으로써 국제적인 명성을 얻었으며, 좀비런에서도 분장과 총 연출을 맡아 참여자들에게 큰 호응을 얻었다고 했다. 이 외에도 영등포캠퍼스에서는 시즌별로 많은 이벤트에 참가해 실전에 강한 면을 어필하며 앞서가는 메이크업, 네일아트 기술을 선보이고 있다.

이행숙 원장은 영등포캠퍼스의 수강생 현황에 대해 “초등학생부터 70대, 그리고 외국인까지 성별과 나이, 국적을 불문한 다양한 수강생들이 전문 뷰티션의 꿈을 키우고 있으며 각 수강생 별로 대학 진학에서 자격증 취득, 취업에 이르기까지 철저히 관리하고 국내를 넘어 극제대회에서도  입상시켜 취업 관문을 밝게 하고 있다”고 전한다. 특히 영등포캠퍼스에서는 ‘2014년 대만중화배미용미발미의기술경연대회’에서 참가자 전원이 수상하는 쾌거를 이룬 바 있다, 수강 전에는 개인별 적성테스트를 거쳐 학과에 배치하며 수료 과정에서 이미지 트레이닝을 포함하여 취업과 면접에서 강세를 보이고 있다.

또한 영등포캠퍼스의 취업정보실에는 MBC방송국, 뷰티 프로모션, 네일 아티스트, 피부과 병원, 헤어와 바디 중심 뷰티샵의 정보가 많다. 그래서 일반 뷰티산업은 물론 드라마·영화 등 공연용 특수메이크업, 의료와 미용이 결합한 분야에서 티오가 날 때, 차별화된 교육을 받은 영등포캠퍼스 수강생들의 진출 범위가 넓다. “잘 나가는 분야라는 이유로 무조건 추천하는 것이 아니라, 반드시 충분한 상담을 거쳐 커리큘럼과 실무실습을 마친 뒤 개개인의 적성에 따라 배치되도록 한다”는 이 원장의 방침에 따라 강사진들은 모든 수강생들의 적성을 파악하는데 열성적이다.

이 원장은 MBC아카데미뷰티스쿨의 명성에 걸맞게 사회공헌에도 앞장선다고 전한다. 청소년 교육 프로그램에 뷰티 아카데미의 커리큘럼을 접목해 진로 지도에 활용하고 있으며, 청소년 우호기업으로 선정된 후부터 많은 청소년들에게 재능기부 형식으로 직업체험을 서비스해 적성을 찾은 청소년들로 하여금 뷰티 전문가로 가는 길을 열어주고 있다. 또한 뷰티 아카데미 최초로 취약계층을 위한 무상교육을 실시해, 작년에는 15명의 학생들이 영등포캠퍼스의 무료 수강 혜택을 받았다. 미용과 사회공헌의 접점을 찾은 이 원장은 “앞으로도 K-뷰티를 선도해 나갈 영등포캠퍼스만의 다양한 프로그램을 개발하고, 수강생들의 자격증과 취업 활동을 독려하며 경쟁력을 키워갈 것이다. 그리고 지역 주민들을 위해 뷰티산업이 기여할 수 있는 사회공헌 활동, 재능기부 역시 계속해 나갈 것”이라고 앞으로의 포부를 밝혔다.

Providing differentiated beauty education
MBC Academy Beauty School Yeongdeungpo Campus won the first prize at Seoul’s Local Skills. This year marks 10th anniversary and the campus is attracting a great number of students with three advantages: being No.1 beauty academy in Yeongdeungpo District, complete remodelling of the building and differentiated programs that can connect students to local residents. The campus appeared on KBS VJ Commando. It holds a monthly nail salon competition called Nail Salon Day to give free nail art services for the participants and it greatly contributes to raising students’ capability and campus image.

Both teachers and students of the campus took in charge of hair and makeup of the whole participants in The 70th Anniversary of Liberation Eve and of directing and makeup in Zombie Run. The campus gained international fame by participating in the opening and closing ceremony of Incheon Asian Games and is regularly participating in numerous seasonal events to show its makeup and nail art technique. Director Lee said “Our students are men and women of all ages including foreigners and we help them to have related qualifications and a job through our thorough management system. Many of our students have won numerous prizes at various international competitions.” Especially, all the participants of the campus in 2014 Taiwan Beauty Skills won each prize respectively. The campus checks each student’s aptitude for a perfect course and provides an image training for job interviews.

Also, the campus’ Job Information Center provides job information on various fields such as MBC, beauty promotion, nail artist, skin clinics, hair and body beauty shops. Thanks to the center, many students of the campus are actively engaged in the beauty industry. Director Lee said “A trendy job does not necessarily mean it is for everybody. We thoroughly check one’s aptitude and capability before recommending an ideal career path.” Meanwhile, MBC Academy Beauty School Yeongdeungpo Campus has been carrying out talent donation. Since it was appointed as a youth-friendly enterprise, the campus has provided free job experience for young people who showed an interest in the beauty industry. Also, 15 underprivileged students received free lessons from the campus last year. Director Lee said “We will keep introducing a variety of academic and social programs and raising our student’s capabilities and competitiveness.”
