Introducing differentiated English education through intensive memorization
DWMT and Magic Tree Grammar to foster language prodigies
SAC English Academy Co-Directors Haeyoung Nam and Gyeongyeon Lee

Nothing but unique curriculum makes learners brilliant
SAC English Academy was established in Songdo IBD, Incheon by Sanghyeon Jo who boasted an IQ of 190 at Super High Intelligence Test hosted by a Croatian professor. Jo closely observed the study habits of men of genius and developed the patented DWMT (Dual Working Memory Training) in cooperation with brain training specialists. If you master the 5 stages of the training in 6 months, you can see your increased working memory capacity in IQ and learning ability. The method actually has been proved by students joining Mensa, winning competitions and improving school records. For this reason, SAC English Academy is highly sought after particularly among those who wish to enter top schools and universities. However, more contribution to SAC’s popularity comes from Co-Directors Haeyoung Nam and Gyeongyeon Lee’s teaching techniques and policies. Nam says “I was really interested in self-directed learning from a long time ago. So I developed my own curriculum and it made me a star in the field. Then I came to know about SAC and the system used in the academy goes well with my philosophy; education and psychology are one.”

SAC English Academy is specifically designed to provide customized English classes for the university entrance examination and DWMT is the presentative method. It makes you memorize as many vocabulary as possible in 30 minutes and if you save 30 vocabulary in your brain the number gradually increases up tp 170 as time goes by. The Magic Tree Grammar, on the other hand, is a grammar improvement technique. Nam explains “It gives you an increased ability of summarizing in a short period of time and you can better understand and systematize grammatical structures.”

Motivation and psychological stability to give high performance in examinations
SAC prepares students for specialized high schools and top universities (SKY). The programs of SAC include guidance for self-instruction and interview skills and admission consultation as well as running 4 other subjects. Nam says “We apply DWMT to all subjects and the curriculum encourages students to lead their understandability of questions to higher school records based on our psychological counseling and advice. We steadily produced many of Mensa students who formed a club called ‘Byeolmuri (cluster of stars)’. They develop the elements of their humanity and personality by actively participating in various volunteer services.” Meanwhile, Director Lee used to teach English in a high school but joined SAC as she felt better off with SAC’s teaching method and philosophy. She particularly praised for students’ motivation and psychological stability which suits her own philosophy of affective learning strategy. Lee thinks good method of language teaching, learning motivation and psychological stability are three vital elements of improving  school record in a short period of time. Instead of elite-oriented education in public schools Lee chose to provide customized education. She says “Each class has its own teacher. We help the top students remain where they are and help the middle ranks improve weak points. We thoroughly check on homework and oral test results, analyse exam trend, provide guidelines for performance assessment and above all make them think why they study English.” Lee added that the students showing a high performance in English also show the same in other subjects.

English language qualifications are a must for modern people
Both Nam and Lee agree that competency in English is very important in this day and age. Backing up their thought, Japanese Prime Minister recently announced to make English as an official second language. Lee says “Korean students show the top academic performance among OECD countries. However, interest in learning English is rather low. This is because Korean English education is focused on raising school records rather than teaching practical skills. Therefore, creating a natural and practical environment from their early age is very important.” Nam says “It normally takes 4 to 5 years to talk with natives without difficulty but they still lack in grammar. For this reason, SAC is a little bit more focused on grammar and provides comprehensive structures.” Power Korea hopes that SAC English Academy will contribute to the development of English education in Korea.
