Huh supports Korean companies entering ASEAN infrastructure market
Huh Chang-soo, the Chairman of The Federation of Korean Industries (FKI) and ASEAN-Korea Center held ASEAN Connectivity Forum for building ASEAN Economic Community and its cooperation at KFI Conference Center on October 22. 250 people including Vice Chairrman Seungchul Lee of FKI, Secretary General of ASEAN-Korea Center, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Taeyeol Jo, lawmaker Lee Jasmin, former lawmaker Jin Park, President Byeongeun Yoon of Aju Corporation, Secretary General of ASEAN Le Luong Minh, Chairman of ACCC Hasnudin Hamzah, 10 ASEAN countries’ ambassadors in Seoul and Korean businessmen in transport, energy and ICT participated in the opening ceremony of the forum. ASEAN is to carry out $1B Infrastructure Project in transport, energy and ICT until 2020 from 2010 and FKI held the forum to provide opportunities for Korean companies to actively participate in the project. If ASEAN Economic Community, with 640 million population and $2.4B GDP, is established in December this year, the infrastructure project will begin in earnest. In the forum, presentations of various related projects, MPAC and information and 1:1 business consultation took place.

Financial world to raise ‘Korea Premium’ through cultural promotion
16 major companies including Samsung, Hyundai, SK, LG, POSCO, Lotte, GS, Hanwha, KT, LS, Hanjin, CJ, Asiana, Doosan, Daelim and Amore Pacific launched a foundation ‘Mir’ on 27th last month. The foundation collected $40M donation and will promote Korean Wave in various fields covering entertainment, food, clothes, cosmetics and lifestyle. An official of Mir said “Korean Wave has been promoted by each related company so far. But Mir will do this job more systematically inviting as many industries and fields as we can.” Apart from domestic promotion, Mir is to carry out various cultural exchanges at the global level through joint festivals, building cultural streets and landmarks as well as integrated global venture complex, youth programs, support for cultural contents developers, exhibitions and cultural product marketing. Chairman Hyungsu Kim of Mir said “Individual foundation of each company can now work together within the boundary of Mir so that we can give more systematic support and promotion for Korean Wave.”
