Flowers blooming on a small canvas embrace the viewer
“Through my paintings I want to express hope and empathy to overcome our lives’ struggles and thus provide a path way to healing and restoration”
Artist Junghi Han

Hope is the name for healing, consider the flowers springing to life after a long harsh winter.
Artist Junghi Han rather expresses the properties of a flower than its nice appearance. She grew up under the influence of her artist father Bongduk Han and became a skilled drawing artist who tried oriental elements in western painting when lived in Sweden. She once dreamed of being an ordinary housewife but turned her course to be an artist and studied art in Sweden, France and the US. Han said “The concept of art is to create new things. But creating new things is not as easy as it sounds but needs insight about things. I lived in Sweden for a long time and there were many Korean-born adoptees in Sweden. Naturally, I engaged myself in activities of promoting Korean language and culture and I learned a lot about life through them. This eventually became the source of my artistic creation.” After moving to the US, Han witnessed many young people who suffered from drugs, parents’ expectations and different culture when serving in the voluntary organization. Han was greatly empathized and started to paint flowers, symbols of troubled young souls, in white and black for the next 10 years. But her empathized passion in work made her to have a new turning point in life. With her supportive husband, Han left for Santorini. During the stay, Han was inspired by the white buildings, blue sea and bright primary colors. Recharged with peace of mind, Han started to paint colorful flowers on canvas with her energy flowing with hope, positivity and healing.

Flowers of Dawn dedicated to the year 2015
Han entered a graduate school at the age of 50 to deepen her skills and insight while delivering her experience and her find in life onto the canvas. Meanwhile, Han’s father wanted her to hold an exhibition at least once every 2 or 3 years at her hometown. To fulfill her father’s wish, Han held her 43rd solo exhibition titled with ‘Flowers of Dawn’from 16 to 31 October 2015 at Riverview 8 Gallery and displayed her works of pain and resumed colors. Han said “Maybe because I painted flowers a lot, I started to see them as the shapes of human. I wanted to express them as the flowers blooming through the frozen earth covered in snow.” Han also mentioned about exhibition space “It is my first time to exhibit small works only to go with the gallery space and the background. All of them were sized between 53cm x 45.5cm and 72.7cm x 60.6cm and contained my message of hope and healing.” Han named the exhibition title as ‘Flowers of Dawn’ to give healing power to people. For this reason, a bunch of flowers, symbolizing a group of people, fill up the background of canvas. You might have found more beauty if you looked closer or called them in whisper so that they could come closer to you. Flowers consisted of millions of dots would deliver you a healing power and vitality. In this respect, we might expect her next exhibition with more flowers of hope and healing.
