Talking about a potential of a tiny mustard seed
Empty your mind, share with others and believe in yourself
Doan (master Yakmyeong), Chief Monk of Yaksa Temple

“Do not let little things go but pursue your inner happiness”
Doan tells those who seek happiness ‘to avoid and to minimize’. That does not mean they need to avoid the fundamental problems. It means that they need to accept their anxiety and depression as part of life but be aware of other parts of our value and to share it with others. Doan says “If we learn from nature we can be happy as there are law and wisdom in nature.” Doan says he was born monk and realized that it was important to catch little things in life and pursue one’s inner happiness. And temples should function as a haven for those who have a troubled soul.

Beautiful accompaniment through emptying and sharing
People want to have a peaceful mind. Based on the teachings of Buddha, energy, and possessive healing & exorcism, Doan has carried out ‘Cheondo Ritual (sending dead to heaven)’ and suggested a ‘beautiful accompaniment through emptying and sharing’ as the answer for a peaceful mind. It means that emptying and sharing are a realization of wisdom and mercy and the mission of our time for undergoing discipline and practicing the teachings of the Buddhist Goddess. Doan continues “We can be free from obsession and desire by emptying. Emptying gives true joy and sharing provides co-existence.” Doan also gives an answer for the pain most modern people suffer from “The more knowledge and information the more complicated we become and cause irregular thoughts actions. Koreans have built a sense of resentment through numerous invasions from stronger countries in history. This spiritual obstacles can cause negative effects in our society. Many violent drunkards confess that they don’t know why they did it but they feel they had resentment in them.

Money is another serious factor in addition to resentment. Therefore leaders, and spiritual leaders in particular, of society need to set a role model and continuously exert their effort in finding ways to make a better society.” According to Doan, the truth is neither good nor bad and the teachings of Buddha should be delivered simple yet clear. Doan says “Believing in something is really important. The Bible says “"If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, 'Be uprooted and planted in the sea,' and it will obey you.” Likewise, if you believe you can heal and clean your mind it will be done. And we don’t need any jargon to explain things but simple and clear words will do.” I could not help but agree with Doan. Talking to define the word ‘belief’ might be nothing at all but talking about a potential of a tiny mustard seed might be all that we have to question to ourselves.
