더불어 살아가는 아이, 창의적인 꿈이 커가는 명품 어린이집

유아교육에 있어 자유로운 표현력과 창의성이 무엇보다 중요함은 누구나 알고 있는 사실이다. 1990년 경남 창원에 개원한 둘리라창의어린이집은 아직까지 미술교육에 대한 인식이 높지 않았던 시절에 아이들이 글과 그림을 통해 자기 자신을 마음껏 표현하는 미술중심 교육을 펼치며 지역에서 인정받는 교육기관으로 자리매김해왔다. 지난 2002년 경남 진주로 자리를 옮긴 뒤에는 체계적인 미술, 자연, 독서 교육을 제공하며 지역명문 교육기관의 위치를 더욱 확고히 해오고 있다.

행복한 탐색과 즐거운 배움이 있는 곳
둘리라창의어린이집은 인성교육과 프로젝트 교육, 독서와 창의성 교육으로 아이들의 모든 영역이 조화롭게 발달할 수 있도록 돕고 있다. 먼저 ‘세상을 밝히는 램프 인성교육’ 프로그램을 통해 아이들이 함께 살아가는 세상 속에서 세상을 밝고 따뜻하게 해줄 수 있는 인성을 함양하도록 한다. 특히 최근 ‘인성교육진흥법’이 제정, 시행되는 등 인성교육의 중요성이 강조되고 있는 상황에서 유아기의 인성교육은 향후 삶을 대하는 태도와 주변 사람들과의 관계 맺기에 큰 영향을 줄 수 있다. 둘째로 아이들의 시야를 넓혀주는 ‘깊고 가까이 살펴보는 망원경 프로젝트 수업’을 펼치고 있다. 강 원장은 “망원경을 가지고 멀리 펼쳐진 풍경을 깊고 세밀하게 살펴보다 보면 세상은 더욱 특별하게 다가옵니다. 우리 아이들에게도 경험하는 것들에 대해 더 깊이 알아가고 그 과정에서 즐거움을 느낄 수 있도록 하는 교육이 필요합니다”라고 설명했다. 마지막으로 아이들이 앞으로 먼 여행을 떠나감에 있어 목표와 나아갈 길을 알려주기 위한 ‘아이의 생각을 펼치는 지도 독서와 창의성’ 프로그램을 진행한다. ‘책은 읽는 것’이라는 고정관념에서 벗어나 ‘독서’가 ‘놀잇감’이 될 수 있도록 교구와 놀이, 문화, 예술 활동을 융합한 교육을 제공하고 있다. 이를 통해 책을 좋아하게 된 아이들은 문제를 해결하는 능력이 높아지며, 예술성 또한 키울 수 있다.

둘리라창의어린이집의 가장 큰 장점이라면 일관성 있고 체계적인 교육과정 속에 아이들의 재능과 역량이 극대화된다는 점이다. 무려 25년간 유아교육현장에 몸담아온 강경숙 원장은 아이들이 행복하게 탐색하고 즐길 때야말로 참된 배움이 펼쳐진다는 생각이다. 둘리라창의어린이집은 아이 중심으로 꾸며진 남·여 화장실과 부딪힐 염려 없이 쾌적하고 넓은 복도, 안전하고 깨끗한 유희실 및 교실환경, 200평이 넘는 수영장과 야외 놀이터 등 경남 최고의 시설을 자랑하고 있다. 교직원을 위한 복지도 확립되어 있어 이직률이 낮고, 아이들의 교육환경도 보다 안정적으로 이끌어갈 수 있다. 강 원장은 “아이들이 안전하게 생활 할 수 있고 다양한 체험을 할 수 있도록 전폭적인 지지를 아끼지 않는 신종필 이사장님이 있기에 교직원들과 학부모들 또한 어린이집에 믿음과 신뢰를 가질 수 있습니다”라고 말했다. 이에 덧붙여 강 원장은 “우리 어린이집에서는 년·월·주별 테마를 선정, 안전하고 즐겁게 체험학습을 즐길 수 있는 둘리라 전용 학습장에서 통합적이고 창의적인 교육을 펼치고 있습니다”라고 설명했다. 또한, 강 원장은 치아사랑연극제, 합창경연대회, 사물놀이 초청공연 등 지역 주민들과 아이들이 함께 어울릴 수 있는 시간을 통해 자부심과 배려하는 마음을 키울 수 있도록 돕고 있다.

“순수한 영혼을 가진 아이들의 커다란 가능성을 믿습니다”
사회의 변화는 그 안을 구성하고 있는 사람들에게도 고스란히 영향을 미친다. 자라온 환경이 다른 학부모 세대의 등장, 지금까지와는 다른 시대를 살아가게 될 아이들에게도 이러한 변화는 이어지고 있다. 강 원장은 이런 흐름에 맞춰 유아교육기관과 그 정책에도 변화가 필요하다고 역설했다. 특히 최근 불거지고 있는 어린이집 문제나 유아교육에 대한 고민의 결과로 각계각층에서는 어린이집 안심보육, 양질보육에 대한 논란이 계속되고 있는 상황. 강 원장은 “교사처우개선과 우량 급·간식, 좋은 시설환경, 양질의 보육을 위해선 무엇보다 먼저 보육료 현실화가 해결되어야 합니다”라며 ‘표준보육비용’ 수준의 현실화가 조속히 이루어지도록 정부의 적절한 대응이 필요하다고 강조했다.

유아기는 인생의 싹을 틔우는 중요한 시기이다. 이 시기의 아이들은 놀면서 배우고, 그 과정에서 많은 것을 느끼며, 생각의 크기를 키워나가게 된다. 강 원장은 “아이들의 마음이 언제나 36.5도로 따뜻했으면 합니다. 해맑은 웃음과 투명한 눈동자, 순수한 영혼을 가진 아이들의 꿈과 희망이 날마다 무럭무럭 자랄 수 있도록 돕겠습니다”라고 밝혔다. 또한, 강 원장은 둘리라창의어린이집과 함께 아이들이 행복한 세상, 사람과 사람이 더불어 사는 세상, 사람과 자연이 하나 되는 세상을 바라며 최선의 노력을 다하겠다고 다짐했다. 진정으로 아이들을 위한 참교육을 펼치고 있는 둘리라창의어린이집에서 미래의 꿈과 희망이 선명한 푸른빛으로 높게 자라나기를 바란다.

Dulira where children can learn, play and have fun in happiness
Dulira Creative Nursery School raises children with customized programs that can boost up their creativity. ‘Lamp Personality Education’, for example, fosters children to have a positive mind and attitude. The recent legislation of ‘Personality Education Promotion Act’ emphasizes how important the personality education is as it can change one’s mind, behavior and attitude towards society. ‘Telescope Education’, for another example, widens children’s view point about the world. Principal Kang said “We can see the world wider and in detail with a telescope and children can be able to better understand about things through this education.” Also notable is ‘Reading & Creativity Education’. With the principal Kang’s idea ‘reading should be a playing’, the program guides children to set up their goal and direction. It is well known that children who read regularly have better problem solving and artistic abilities.

In a word, Dulira Creative Nursery School provides consistent and systematic education programs to maximize children’s abilities. Principal Kang, who has devoted her life in childhood education for the last 25 years, emphasizes that children better learn when they enjoy. Dulira also boasts the best educational facilities in South Gyeongsang Province. It has separate restrooms for men and women, wide corridors, safe and clean class rooms, a 600 square meter swimming pool and a playground. “I believe in children’s pure and unlimited possibilities”
When a society changes, the people inside are also affected and this has happened from generations to generations. The important thing, principal Kang said, is to adopt right policies and curriculums especially if we are to prevent the recent disgraceful violence happened in some nursery schools. Kang said “Providing a better working condition for the teachers is the most urgent thing to do. Then the effective education system, healthy food and sound and safe facilities should follow and the government must actively support and introduce related regulations.” Experts say that one’s childhood memories and experience affect the rest of her/his life. Principal Kang said “It is our job to keep our children’s heart warm and considerate and we will do our very best to make our children happy and bright.”
