현대화·과학화 통한 최면심리 치료의 세계화에 앞장설 터
동양인에게 적합한 동양적 자연최면요법 창안

유복균 회장은 최면이란 인간이 가진 의식을 뛰어넘어 잠재의식 속에 내재된 문제을 이끌어내는 방법이라고 설명했다. 그는 “사람의 뇌 안에는 필터가 있습니다. 의식과 잠재의식 사이에 있는 일종의 칸막이라고 할 수 있죠. 최면을 통해 의식을 어느 한 쪽으로 집중시키게 되면 잠재의식을 덮고 있던 방어막이 열리게 됩니다. 이때 의식의 검열을 받지 않고 잠재의식 속으로 들어가 당사자도 몰랐던 긍정적인 요소와 부정적인 요소를 밖으로 표출시키는 것. 그리고 표출된 내면의 이야기를 듣고 이를 교정하는 것이 최면치료라고 할 수 있습니다”라고 밝혔다. 

주의해야 할 것은 일반인들이 흔히 알고 있는 쇼 형식의 최면과 임상최면은  다르다는 점이다. 쇼 최면은 상대방의 호기심을 위해 강한 암시를 거는 형식이지만, 임상최면은 심리적인 트라우마나 육체적인 교정까지 가능한 ‘치료를 위한 최면’이라는 것이다. 1972년, 임상최면에 입문한 뒤 43년 간 수많은 최면심리치료를 행하며 국내뿐만 아니라 미국 과 일본 등에서도 인정받는 현존하는 최고의 최면사로 인정받고 있는 유복균 협회장은 양학이 다룰 수 없는 분야까지 섭렵하며 과학적이고 현대적인 ‘동양적 자연최면’이라는 장르를 구축하기에 이른다.

유복균 회장이 창안한 독특한 최면심리치료요법인 ‘기 최면치료’는 그가 오랜 시간 연구하고 수련한 ‘음양도’에 그 바탕을 두고 있다. 현재 제26대 음양도주이기도 한 그는 노자(老子)의 도덕경」을 기초로 한 피나는 내공수련과 기공수련을 통해 총 8단계의 ‘음양도’ 중 5단계를 깨우쳤다고 한다. ‘인간이 어떻게 살아가야 하는지’, ‘인간의 몸을 어떻게 치유할 수 있는지’를 설파하는 음양도에 대한 깊은 공부를 바탕으로 그는 인위적인 것이 아닌 자연적인 힘을 통한 동양인에게 맞는 동양적인 최면치료법을 창안할 수 있었다고 한다. 유 회장은 “동양인과 서양인은 사고의 흐름 자체가 다르기 때문에 서양인 중심의 최면은 동양인에게는 잘 맞지 않는 경우가 많습니다. 특히 잠재의식 속 깊은 부분과의 여러 가지 상호작용이 필요한 최면심리치료의 경우 그러한 차이점이 더욱 극명하게 들어난다”고 전했다. 

그는 연구와 수련을 통해, 그리고 수많은 임상치료 경험을 통해 얻어낸 깨달음을 후대에 전하고자 하는 노력도 게을리 하지 않고 있다. 우리나라 최고의 최면심리전문가인 <탑최면심리상담 임상치료연구원>의 유영균 원장은 그의 20년 제자이며, 음양도 기 치료 제자인 27대 설주수교정감 초의(김해녀) 양택풍수 오정(윤재영) 소운, 천운, 성운, 또 다른 제자인 서담(유석종) 제자, 최면심리(윤인숙)제자 영주(홍예진) 그밖에도 그의 품을 거쳐 간 수많은 제자들이 전국 각지에서 인명을 구하고 다친 마음을 치료하는 일에 매진하고 있다. 또한 그는 <한국실용최면심리상담전문가협회>의 회장직을 역임하며, 선진국과의 학술 교류 및 최면·심리·상담 분야의 전문성을 제고하고, 내담자들이 더욱 신뢰할 수 있는 전문가를 육성하기 위해 노력하고 있다. 현재 미국대학과의 MOU를 통해 미술치료, 음악치료, 분야의 교육도 병행하고 있다.

유복균 회장은 기 최면 분야는 인간에게 존재하는 무수히 많은 문제들을 근본적으로 해결할 수 있는 방법이라고 강조했다. 질병의 경우 최면·기 치료를 통해 정상세포에 에너지를 공급하여 면역력을 높여줌과 동시에 인간의 자연치유력을 극대화하면 의학적인 치료의 효과도 배가 될 수 있으며, 우울감이나 각종 증후군, 인간관계에서 오는 갈등 등 심리적인 문제 또한 잠재된 내면의 부정적인 요소를 교정하는 과정을 통해 보다 원활한 해결이 가능하다고 설명했다.

또한 치매로 고통 받는 분들에게 과거의 건강했던 시점을 연상시키거나 그때의 건강했던 활동 과 생활 등을 재체험하게 함으로써 치매의 진행을 늦출 수 있고 나아가 생활에 활력을 찾을 수 있다고 한다. 그의 목표는 고통 받고 있는 사람들을 그 고통으로부터 해방시켜주는 것이다. 또한 자신의 길을 따를 후대를 위해 보다 바른길 과 방향을 인도하는  스승이 되는 것이다. 훗날 최면요법이 당당한 의학기술의 한 분야로 자리매김할 것을 믿으며 만반의 준비를 갖추겠다는 유복균 협회장. 대한민국 최면요법의 도약을 위해 오늘도 연구와 수련에 정진하고 있는 유복균 회장의 행보를 주목해보자.

Yu explains hypnosis as a method to conjure up the problems living in one's inner side. "There is a filter in our brain. It's kind of a partition between consciousness and subconsciousness. If one side gets focused through hypnosis, the shield covering the side gets opened. This will enable the hypnotee to travel the world of subconsciousness and draws out both positive and negative elements to be analysed and consulted by a hypnotizer" said Yu. 

The current trend of hypnotherapy is hypnotic induction. Yu continued "The existing authority hypnosis sometimes received rejections from sensitive and wary hypnotees. But hypnotic induction invented by Dave Elman known as the father of modern hypnosis improved the drawback through the hypnotizer's appropriate lead and engagement." But bear in mind that hypnosis for a commercial show and for clinical purposes is different. The former arises people's curiosity but the latter actually cures one's trauma and corrects body parts. Yu entered in the field in 1972 and has practiced hypnosis as cure for 43 years and is recognized as one of the best hypnotizers in the world. Yu applied hypnosis to oriental medicine and created a hypnotherapy ideal for Asians.

Like Dave Elman invented hypnotic induction, Yu invented 'energy hypnotherapy' based on his long time research on yin and yang. Serving as the 26th leader of yin and yang sector, Yu trained himself to build both inner and outer power based on Tao Te Ching and acquired the 5th level enlightenment out of the 8 level yin and yang enlightenments which tells about the way we live and how to cure our body. Using the enlightenment, said Yu, he could be able to create his energy hypnotherapy ideal for Asians. Yu said "Westernized hypnosis is often not working on Asians as the conception is quite different. That's why I invented my own method for Asians." Subconsciousness is a part of consciousness that contains one's experiences and emotions and therefore the development of oriental methods are more desirable for Asians according to Yu. 

Yu carried out numerous clinical tests and fostered many specialists. The Korea's top hypnosis psychology therapist Director Younggyun Yoo of Top Hypnotherapy Clinic, a member of the 27th sector Heesook Park, the 27th yin and yang sector sugyojeonggam choui Haeneo Kim, Sukjeong Yoo(Yangtaek Fengshui specialist), Insook Yoon(hypnotherapist) and Yejin Hong are all his disciples and they are passionately curing people suffering from trauma. Meanwhile, Yu is serving as Chairman of Practical Hypnosis Korea Counseling Professional Associations to secure the expertise of the field and to foster talented hypnotists. 

Yu emphasized that energy hypnotherapy is the very method that cures the fundamental problems of mankind. It provides energy to normal cells, improves immunity, prevents diseases, maximizes natural healing power, reduces depression and syndromes, improves negativity and resolves conflicts with others. It also delays the process of dementia by reminding the patients of their happy moments. 

Yu opened Korea's first Possession Research Lab to save those who suffer from possession with scientific methods and system. Yu hopes that hypnotherapy will one day be recognized as an official medical treatment and he will exert an unsparing effort together with the people in the field to achieve it.
