Daegu Creative Economy Innovation Center stands as a role model for Korea’s creative economy
The Minister of Science, ICT and Future Planning Yanghee Choi held the first anniversary celebration of Daegu Creative Economy Innovation Center on 15 last month. The center (head Sunil Kim) with Samsung and Daegu City have actively supported regional venture enterprises and SMEs, raised startup fund, invested in venture enterprises, fostered talented people, and created spaces for creative economy. The center is running ‘C-Start’, ‘Pitching’ (similar like karaoke) and ‘C-Star Special Day’ (for startup and universities only) in order to activate C-Lab and excellent ideas. The center also signed a MOU with ANPROTEC (Brazil) to promote the model of Korean creative economy and the exchanges on the occasion of President Park’s visit to Brazil. Ms. Francilene Procopio Garicia, chairman of ANPROTEC, in response, participated in the first anniversary celebration in Daegu to further enhance the global cooperative relationship between the two countries. Meanwhile, Daegu Creative Economy Innovation Center is highly praised for overachievements through close cooperation with related organizations. The center is planning to introduce Employment Zone to provide efficient job seeking and matching services for the residents and the public. 

Choi holds The 61th National Science Exhibition Award
The Minister of Science, ICT and Future Planning Yanghee Choi held The 61th National Science Exhibition Award on 16 last month at the National Science Museum. The exhibition started in 1949 and this year marks the 61 anniversary. The Presidential Prize went to a third grade high school student Daehyeon Kim of Punkduck High School for his work ‘Research on Korean Paper Beating by Using Bicycle Rims’ and Vice Principal Kisik Lee of Wando Sinji Middle School for ‘Development & Application of Organic Matter Separation & Purification to Realizing Aquarium Basin Type Zero Emission’. The Prime Minister’s Prize went to second grade students Jimin Kwak, Yejin Park and Wonjun Yoo of Daegu Science High School for ‘Research on Chemical Cell by Applying Heron’s Fountain’ and a teacher Inhwan Oh of Duru High School for ‘Development and Application of Micro Scale Chemical Experimental Apparatus’.

For those who won top prizes are eligible to have an overseas science & culture tour, and special prizes of those between second grade of middle school and third grad of high school to participate in ISEF (International Science & Engineering Fair). The award included the ‘Meeting of Mentors’ with which industry officials and specialists gave a valuable advice to students. A participant in the meeting said “I understood the process of an idea being turned into an actual product thanks to the meeting.” Minister Choi said “I hope the winners will play a central role for Korea’s creative economy. We will give unsparing efforts for the winders in terms of patent and commercialization.”
