The key power to improve one’s lot consists in naming.
- Taegeuk Fortuneteller’s, the most famous in Daejon
Song Min, president of Taegeuk Fortuneteller’s

How can one’s lot be destined? Since ancient times, the East has thought that there is the Four Pillars and the Eight Characters, which serves to determine later life early enough when one is born. So, for a long time, many people have sought to figure out what is one’s lot and constantly made efforts to change one’s fixed lot. This issue of <Power Korea Monthly> visited a person who can give a clear answer about what is one’s lot we have been wandering about so much and what methods there are to improve one’s life later on.

Science of divination deciphered with constant investigation
There are three famous mountains in Daejon city - Mt. Gyejok in the north, Mt. Bomoon in the center, and Mt. Shikjang in the east.  Of these, Mt. Bomoon is a noted mountain that has big significance in the Korean peninsula as well as in Daejon city. Only with the height of 457.6m above sea level, the mountain is a chain of Taebaek mountains holding the magnificence as it is and has a beautiful physical aspect and configuration of sustaining Daejon. With the characteristic of being located in the heart of the Korean Peninsula, the mountain has acted a pivotal role of a popular belief for a long time. On the foot of Mt. Bomoon praised by every visitor for the ‘clean spirit of all creation,’ there is a person who is working on research and practice to grasp a man’s destiny, one’s good and ill fortune, truth of the world. He is Song Min (also called a bachelor of Taegeuk), president of Taegeuk Fortuneteller’s.

Since he became a pupil in 1993, president Song Min is a professional psychic who has devoted and practiced himself to yin and yang, saju, science of fame and wealth, etc. for the past 22 years with invariably upright heart. Then, after nearly losing his life by unexpected traffic accident, he decided to lead a life as a shaman and practiced by visiting many noted mountains, such as Mt. Gyeryong, Mt. Jiri and Mt. Bomoon, for seven years until at last he received an invocatory rite of a would-be medium. Since he became a pupil at young age in his early 20’s, president Song is still counted among young shamans in the neighborhood of Mt. Bomoon.

Then, president Song has repeated constant investigation and study on the science of fame and wealth, practice in nature and communication with the people, building his own colorful world of science of divination. Especially, his science of divination, which is deep by melting the science of fame and wealth into shamanism and logical enough for people to understand easily, is receiving a big response even from modern people who have been lacking in confidence in shamanism. President Song declared, “What is needed for modern people is not the concept of blind belief as in the past but a guideline for the direction forward, hope in life and specific advice to overcome difficulty they are now confronted with. I have suffered a big hardship myself and I am making efforts to tell them a story which could help them.” To meet more people, he is keeping communication with people through community site, portal blog, etc and also called ‘a shaman in communication’ or ‘a smart shaman.’

Implant the resolve of improving one’s lot
President Song Min explained, “Man is born with the cosmic energy of yin and yang, that is, tree, fire, earth, iron and water. At this time, the year, month, day and hour nestled with the energy of yin and yang are called the Four Pillars, which are divided by heaven and earth into the Eight Characters.” According to him, this Four Pillars and Eight Characters is innate and one’s unchangeable destiny or fate. He said, however, that by filling and complementing the lacking part through one’s name which determines one’s acquired lot, one can have his opportunity open to lead a sufficiently good life following the efforts he makes. President Song is also famous for exactly grasping each person’s Four Pillars and Eight Characters based on the natural cardinal numbers he himself understood through a longtime investigation on the science of fame and wealth and meditation. Accordingly, he presents scientific and systematic solutions in marital harmony, naming, choice of an auspicious day, luck in business or exam, exorcism, amulet, etc.

Especially engaging in naming for improving one’s lot, he names in the direction of complementing the person’s saju when he takes charge of naming or renaming an infant, adult or a firm name. First, analyze one’s saju, then suit the schema of mathematical principle with the five elements to complement the Eight Characters, and present a name using his colorful knowledge of science of divination comprehensively, such as five elements by sound source, characters, three origins and mathematical yin and yang.

President Song said, “Divination is a scientific and abstruse learning that investigates the reasons for change in humans, nature, society, etc. However, some thoughtless people are only committed to its commercial side, worsening the image of the whole science of divination and resulting in ruining a person’s life by wrong naming.” Then he advised, “To prevent such damage, people should verify the actual location of the fortuneteller’s, study his career, experience and methods of naming, and check the feedback.”

Man’s lot, good or ill fortune is fixed so it is hard to avert it. However, each person is different in handling this. Some look for the future hope overcoming this while others despair with frustration. President Song emphasized, “What matters most is with what frame of mind one keeps overcoming them.” President Song said that through the experience of standing right before death and the realization then, he came to think it his calling to become a friend, recourse and shelter for people and an advisor to disoriented people. To deliver his realization and hope he won to future generations, he is planning to publish a book containing his whole life and devoting himself to rearing students. He also mentioned his hope for managing a small resting place to care for orphans or old people while doing propagation in later life.

He is endeavoring to erect Eastern philosophy back, develop and succeed to shamanism as the right mental culture and the positive science of divination as part of our life. It seems that clean and warm energy filling the foot of Mt. Bomoon is also flowing out of him.
