The power of mothers who draw public participation
The Korea's first female president inspires Mother Support Corps
Director Oksoon Ju of Mother Support Corps

Eradicating pro-North Korean forces to keep the public interests of South Korea
Oksoon Ju and 680 mothers founded Mother Support Corps in April 2013 to protect the national identity of South Korea from pro-North Korean forces. Ju said "We need strong supporters of the Korea's first female president. We believe that nation comes before political colors whether it is conservative or progressive. There are no people without a nation and we need people who protect our nation in harmony. That's why we gathered together to express our opinions."

The only divided nation in the world
Ju claims to be a patriotic right wing and is determined to change the society. Ju said "It is serious problem that there are some lawmakers who refuse to sing national anthem and to salute the national flag. That is why we carried out signature campaign on the street to disband UPP (Unified Progressive Party). We did it 56 times for a year and a month at Gwanghwamun and collected signatures from 35,000 people and submitted to Constitutional Court of Korea. We wore mourning dress and visited the court every Wednesday to ask the nine judges to disband the party and save the country from pro-North Korean forces. Eventually, the court legally disband the party and we showed our gratitude by delivering flowers to the judges."

Ju also has a different point of view in regard to Sewol ferry disaster. The public seemed to shift responsibility on President Park only but Ju emphasized that the responsibility actually lied on the owner and the company of the ferry. Ju's opinion and action played a role to bring victory to the ruling party at the by-election held in July. Ju said "We changed the conception that housewives are those who stay at home and do housekeeping but we can actually change the society and political spectrum."

Women's active participation makes a better society
Ju seems to be a strong woman who can fiercely fight for her opinion. But she also has a great skill to bring up reconciliation and harmony. Ju said "I was shocked and felt utter helplessness when U.S. Ambassador Mark Lippert had his face slashed by a Korean attacker. I wanted to deliver my message that this brutal and thoughtless act was done by the lunatic himself but most Korean people love and support him. We visited Severance Hospital and had a press interview and sent a bunch of flowers to the ambassador. CNN, BBC and NHK broadcasted us and when Mark Lippert waved his hand to us through the window of his ward we felt really worth."

Ju is determined to fight against those who disturb the public order and the stability of a society. Ju continued "Regardless one's social position and political opinions, those who promote conflict and division must be stopped and we are here in the forefront to stop them."

The power of women
The members of Mother Support Corps ranges in age from 30 to 70 years old. Ju said "We gather together with one mind that is to love our country. It is our calling to contribute to make a better and harmonious society by standing against harmful people or organizations. We want to show that women are no longer those who stand behind political or social affairs but who actively participate and demand the things we want. We believe that women's detail and sensitivity will promote better understanding and practicality in our society and only active participation will raise women's rights and status."
