고용불안이 갈수록 가중되고 있는 요즘, 많은 이들의 시선이 창업에 쏠리고 있다. 하지만 극심한 경기침체로 인해 소비심리마저 위축되고 있는 상황에서 성공창업을 달성하기란 여간 어려운 일이 아니다. 이에 많은 전문가들은 성공창업을 위해선 차별화된 아이템과 남다른 경쟁력, 그리고 실패를 두려워하지 않는 도전정신과 뜨거운 열정이 필요하다고 조언하고 있다.

인체에 무해한 줄눈시공으로 삶의 질을 높이다

김병훈 대표는 “처음 창업을 결심했던 2011년도는 전국적인 창업 붐이 일었던 시기였습니다. 저마다의 아이디어와 아이템으로 무장한 이들이 넘쳐났죠. 하지만 저희는 먼저 고객의 입장이 되어야 한다고 생각했습니다. 제 아무리 기발한 아이템이더라도 그것이 고객에게 만족을 주느냐, 고객에게 꼭 필요한 것이냐가 중요하다는 생각이었습니다”라고 말했다. 그가 줄눈시공에 뛰어들게 된 것도 자신이 직접 겪고 느꼈던 불편함 때문이었다고 한다. 

줄눈이란 마감재와 마감재 사이를 메워주는 완충제로써 건축자재의 수축과 팽창현상을 흡수하는 역할을 한다. 일반적인 시공에서 이 줄눈에 사용하는 것은 ‘백시멘트’라는 자재이다. 백시멘트는 가격이 저렴하고, 깔끔하고 정갈한 흰색 라인을 만들어주는 특성으로 줄눈시공에서 가장 흔히 사용되어 왔으나 오랜 시간 사용시 물기나 기름때 등으로 곰팡이가 생기고, 부식되거나 떨어져나가 미관상 좋지 못한 단점이 있었다. 또한 최근에는 백시멘트에서 검출된 석면이 위험성과 함께 미세한 백시멘트 가루에 의한 아토피 피부염과 천식 등의 알레르기 질환 문제도 지적되어 왔다. 김 대표는 “줄눈은 그동안 도배지, 장판 등의 다른 건축자재에 비해 소홀히 다뤄져왔던 것이 사실입니다. 많은 주부들이 미관상의 문제로 시중에서 판매되는 청소용품을 구매해 줄눈을 청소하곤 했지만, 임시방편에 불과해 재차 오염이 발생하는 악순환이 반복되고 있습니다”라고 설명했다.

One of the former cases is CEO Byeonghoon Kim who is attracting much attention in the startup market at the moment. He established a construction joint specialized company ECO ROOT in Ulsan in 2011. Kim says "Staring one's own business was booming in 2011, the year I established ECO ROOT. There were full of ideas and items.
