금빛 물살을 가르며 약진하는 울산수영의 도약을 꿈꾸다

한때 ‘수영’은 국내스포츠계에서 미운오리새끼처럼 여겨졌다. 각종 국제대회에서 느껴지는 세계무대와의 격차는 결코 줄어들지 않을 거대한 벽처럼 느껴졌었다. 그러나 최근 수영의 위상이 달라지고 있다. 세계선수권대회는 물론 아시안게임, 올림픽게임 등에서 국가대표 선수들이 뛰어난 활약을 보이며 국민의 많은 관심과 사랑을 받게 된 것이다. 눈부신 날개를 가진 백조가 되어 비상하고 있는 수영에 많은 이들의 관심이 집중되고 있다.

선진수영기술 도입과 유망주 발굴을 위한 노력
최근 국제무대에서 보이는 ‘수영’의 놀라운 도약은 결코 우연히 발생한 일이 아니다. 그 과정에는 선진 수영기술을 익히고 지도해온 수많은 수영지도자들의 노력과, 자신의 꿈을 향해 수천 번도 넘게 물살을 갈라온 선수들의 피땀 어린 노력, 그리고 이를 뒷받침하고 지원하기 위해 힘써온 수영연맹의 공헌이 있었다. 그 가운데서도 울산광역시수영연맹은 국내·외 대회에서 우수한 성적을 기록하는 유망 인재들을 다수 배출하며 대한민국 수영발전에 크게 기여해왔다.

울산광역시수영연맹은 지난 1993년 울산시체육회 산하 가맹경기단체로 설립된 뒤, 다시 1997년 대한수영연맹의 정식 산하가맹경기단체로 재 창립된 이래 울산광역시의 수영경기를 통활·대표하는 단체로서 다양한 활동을 펼쳐왔다. 특히 수영경기의 선진기술 지도를 통해 우수한 선수를 양성하고, 각종 전국대회에서의 상위 입상을 도모함으로써 시 체육문화발전에 기여함은 물론 ‘마스터즈 수영대회’를 시민에게 널리 보급해 수영이 대중적인 스포츠로서 자리매김할 수 있도록 최선의 노력을 다해왔다. 최근에는 다양한 대회에서 좋은 성적을 거두고 있는 경영 실업팀과의 연계를 통해, 고등부 선수들이 활동할 수 있는 다이빙 실업팀 창단에 힘을 쏟고 있다. 이대일 회장은 “실업팀의 활발한 활동은 초·중·고등부 선수들에게 긍정적인 영향을 미칩니다. 타 지역으로 이적하지 않고도 선수활동을 이어갈 수 있는 무대가 있다는 사실이 더 좋은 활약에 대한 동기부여로 작용합니다”라고 설명했다. 그밖에도 이 회장은 재능 있는 선수 발굴과 육성에 지도자의 역할이 중요하다는 판단 아래 임원 및 지도자 연수회를 개최하는 한편, 수영부 안전사고 및 성폭력 예방을 위한 프로그램도 준비하고 있다고 전했다.

울산수영의 발전 이끌 수영연맹 만들어 나갈 터
2014년 회장직 취임 이래 제86회 동아수영대회를 성공리에 개최한 바 있는 이대일 회장은 최근 울산지역 선수들이 우수한 성적을 기록하고 있다고 전했다. 제43회 전국소년체육대회에서는 금5개, 은2개, 동2개의 성과를 올렸으며, 제17회 인천아시안게임에서는 은메달, 제95회 전국체육대회에서 금6개, 은1개, 동2개의 우수한 성적을 거뒀다. 올해 열린 제44회 전국소년체전에서도 금2개, 은3개, 동2개의 성과를 일궜고, 2015 세계수영선수권대회에는 3명의 선수가 국가대표로 출전하기도 했다. 또한 이 대회에 출전한 안세현 선수는 접영 100M에서 한국신기록을 수립하는 영광을 차지했다. 

이 회장은 이 같은 성과를 낼 수 있었던 데에는 연맹 이사진의 헌신적인 공헌이 있었다며, 앞으로도 연맹에서는 선수 및 지도자들의 처우개선과 수영인구 저변확대, 유망주 선수발굴에 최선을 다하겠다고 밝혔다. 또한 향후 대한민국 수영발전을 위해서는 상비군 및 꿈나무 수영교실, 초등 수영교육을 활성화하는 한편 과학적인 수영방법의 지도와 장기적인 투자가 지속되어야 한다는 당부의 말을 남겼다. 수영이 울산을 대표하는 스포츠로서 자리매김하고 수영인들의 자긍심을 높일 수 있도록 건실한 수영연맹을 만들어나가겠다는 이대일 회장의 열정이 그 결실을 맺을 수 있게 되기를 바란다.

Introducing advanced technique
Korea's remarkable achievement in recent world swimming competitions did not come without a price. Introducing advanced swimming technique, excellent coaches and hardworking swimmers took a great part. But when it comes to systematic support, Korea Swimming Federation's contribution cannot be missed. Ulsan Swimming Federation in particular played a great role to foster several talented swimmers who raised Korea's status in the field. 

The Ulsan Swimming Federation was established in 1993 as an affiliated organization of Ulsan Sports Association but reopened its door as an official member of the Korea Swimming Federation in 1997 and as the representative federation in Ulsan. Apart from fostering talented swimmers, the association introduced 'master's swimming competition' to spread swimming to the citizens. Recently, the association is preparing to form a high school semi-professional swimming team in connection with adult semi-professional teams. Chairman Daeil Lee of Ulsan Swimming Federation said "The activities of semi-pro teams encourages students to increase interest in swimming because the city provides a place for them if they want to start a career in swimming." Lee thinks that the role of leader is very important and he regularly holds staff meeting and membership training. Also, he is planning to introduce safety prevention and sexual molestation programs.

Lee inaugurated as chairman of the Ulsan Swimming Federation in 2014. He successfully held the 86th Dongah Swimming Competition and fostered many excellent swimmers who won 5 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze at the 43th National Junior Sports Festival, 1 silver at the 17 Incheon Asian Game, 5 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze at the 95th National Sports Festival, 2 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze at the 44th National Junior Sports Festival. Three swimmers participated in 2015 World Championships for Swimming as the national team and Sehyeon Ahn among them set a new Korean record in 100M. Chairman Lee ascribed theses fantastic results to the devoted contribution of member of the board and said that they keep doing their unsparing support. Lee added that the federation is planning to run  swimming class for primary school students in cooperation with other organizations but a long term investment is also needed.
