Drawing attention with global-level research performance
Nano-biochemistry (NBC) Research Laboratory at Chung-Ang University is a representative research institute which carries on new-level research projects. It has already been recognized as a global level research unit for synthesizing  various nanomaterials by using biotechnological engineering and materials science. It is also leading the production of daily usable sensor devices in cooperation with various organizations and enterprises based on its R&D results. The laboratory published papers on many academic journals and obtained numerous patents and contributed to develop new technologies and products which are priceless. Professor Park said "We are studying on bio-sensors that can detect harmful substances by using nanoparticles & receptors such as enzyme, antibody, aptamer, and other bio-chemical matters, as well as development of acceptor that can safely and effectively transport drugs in the cells by using multi-functional nanomaterials." As a result of these researches, Park commercialized the device that can detect residual insecticides in the agricultural products up to the level of substandard by using agricultural specific enzyme and disposable strip. Currently, Park is planning to make a kit that can promptly detect various intractable diseases, cancer and many kinds of harmful matters to human.

Research that can contribute to social evolution
Park said that nano-chemistry is a relatively new subject which has a limitless research possibility. He predicted that the diversity of related technologies will expand further depending on how we can adjust the characteristics of nano-sized materrials. He took an example of harmfulness of an organo-metallic compound used for catalyst of chemical reaction and explained that the development of low- or non-poisonous nano-matter will solve this problem in the near future. The research areas of Park's laboratory also include chemical materials, including inorganic chemistry and analytical chemistry, and Park is working together with his team and other collaborators from outside. 

Currently, the NBC laboratory is carrying out various research projects of BK21 PLUS, Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning, Ministry of Health & Welfare, and Ministry of Food and Drug Safety. Park said "Our research area is an attractive yet difficult job as not many people are involved in the area. But, I'm very happy with my job, and I will do my best to draw socially beneficial results through nano-bio materials and bio-chemical researches.". Park added that government's continuous support and investment are needed in the field if we are to secure national competitiveness.
