Promoting healthy eating habit for children

Center For Children's Foodserivce Management in Pohang City is systematically supporting and managing nutrition and hygiene of children in kindergartens and day care centers which have less than 100 children. The center is led by Professor of Life Science at Handong University Hyung-Ki Do and the staff of the center are all qualified nutritionists and/or hygienists and they provide customized healthy, safe and effective nutrition management. 

The center, particularly paying attention to health control. For this, Do and his team are carrying out 'Children Food Poisoning Prevention Campaign' supported by its microorganism laboratory and strategic room. The Hygiene Team of the center launched 'FOCUS ON Harmful Microorganism Free Consulting Project' as part of this effort. Do said "after our Microorganism recognition training, 14 places (23%) showed an improvement in using cutting board for vegetables and 15 places (19%) in the hygienic state of knives." This is a great result of the center's providing professional training about harmful microorganism and Do and his team attracted voluntary participation. Meanwhile, the Nutrition Team of the center is promoting healthy eating habit to 2,500 children from 140 member nursery facilities through the puppet show made by the team called 'Himchan and Kalkum's Three Food Poisoning Prevention Rules' in the Exciting Nutritional World Adventure Education Hall at the center. 

Strengthening capabilities in leading the regional hygiene education center
Center For Children's Foodservice Management has its unique know how. Korea's first children's kitchen called 'Ideal Kitchen' of the center realized a kitchen where the cooks put health and food hygiene regulation into practice. As a result, approximately 70 centers nationwide have visited the center to benchmark the kitchen and Do is sharing his materials with them for co-development. Currently, 15 centers are run in North Gyeongsang Province and 7 more centers are planned to be added. Do said "more centers need to be open and more support projects should be provided as there are still many children who are excluded from health and food safety regulation. For this reason, we will exert our utmost effort to be the hub of the centers and create synergy effects by working together." Do also asked a support from the officials of nursery facilities, school parents and local governments so that more children can receive the benefit from the centers.
