‘Human Vision’ will be there to present a beautiful world
with a normal, dignified life and a healthy future
Lee Gyung-heon, president of Human Vision & Drama Optician’s
Park Jung-woo, director

in a nutshell, Human Vision is a non-profit volunteer work organization which created a corporation and started activity earnestly on May 13 this year. Now being positioned at the center of Human Vision, president Lee Gyung-heon has carried on every kind of volunteer work for over the past dozen years.

It’s time for full-fledged voluntary service and sponsorship project
Director Park Jung-woo of Human Vision gave introduction related to its activity. “While until 2014 we, as a pure arbitrary organization, engaged in activity in cooperation with other groups, from this year we are starting what we have carried on so far as a full-fledged business. Domestically, we are performing voluntary service for social welfare facilities, supporting glasses and giving eyesight management instructions while for overseas, we are giving assistance with glasses and building optician system for underdeveloped countries. These areas are being enlarged in execution with the ‘eye. like’ support project starting this year.” The reporter asked for a little more detailed explanation about their activity.

“For instance, in case of eyesight protection education for children/adolescents, we are acting by visiting a school in person to manufacture glasses and correct the students’ vision together. For children, they are at ages enough to improve their vision by receiving correction, so we are carrying out intensive eye health instruction and diagnosis for 2 to 4 hours.” Besides aforementioned activities, Human Vision is giving support for old people living alone and the handicapped, increasing their target of support by giving their best for multicultural family support project as well.

Want to broaden the area toward Asia and Africa by building a secure welfare model
“Even though overall exposure to smart phone is decreasing people’s vision fast, companies selling some devices and telecom companies are failing to set up any measures to speak of. In our progress of business, we are aiming toward a welfare model in which the state can give help even to lower-income earners and the alienated in the field of vision health and support for glasses, too.” Besides, for overseas, in Cambodia, with a foreign branch for Drama Optician’s domestically operated by president Lee for a long time, they are exporting Korean-made glasses in person and providing an opportunity for those who want to become an optician there. Especially for Africa, they were also in charge of supporting Malawi together with the ‘Spring’ team from Yonsei University Severance Hospital for ophthalmological clinic project. “While it was a limited part in the areas that we could perform in the past, this is the point of time for expanding what we have absorbed so far. Like you said, our business has come a long way based on glasses. Since we are now including the up-cycling area, we want to broaden our area of sponsorship toward Asia and Africa as well as domestically.”

We can go anyplace in the world.
The motto Human Vision puts priority on is focused on ‘education’ project. President Lee Gyung-heon aired his wish to export Korea’s optician system and department of optometry together by connecting to Korea Optometric Association. “As you know, everything starts with capital but our financial ability is relatively small. Even though we want to send our glasses to more countries, it is still difficult for us to send them by examining the concrete power of glasses. For now, we are leaning toward supporting the convenient sunglasses, but if we build a proper program for enterprises that can cooperate with us in this part, it should be a starting point to drive forward a new project for overseas supply.” President Lee Gyung-heon had been performing voluntary service in the nation for the past dozen years when he turned his eyes for overseas in 2007 after hearing accidentally the words by poet Park No-hae, “There is no more absolute poverty in Korea.”

Only then was he, who had wished to support glasses to places in real need with an increasing number of those who could see the world more clearly and more lucidly, able to get out of the dilemma which had lasted for a while. “I hit upon the idea that by reusing and designing the glasses we don’t usually use, we could support surplus products overseas without big costs and have them benefit from this. I started this business by meeting persons in the same opinion. In the course of looking for the target of voluntary service and sponsorship, we have had such a broad extent of business. It is because we believe that we can go anyplace in the world.”
