분당구 서현동에 위치한 나우리 가정의학과의원은 문으로 들어서는 순간 딱딱하고 경직된 병원의 느낌보다는 잘 꾸며진 카페 같은 느낌을 준다. 공간을 최대한으로 활용하여 오밀조밀 모여 있는 의료기구들과 로비 등 곳곳에 놓여있는 스탠드, 천장을 틔워 설치한 카페식 조명 등 구석구석에 눈을 붙잡아두게 만드는 요소들이 숨어있다. 나우리 가정의학과의원은 항상 웃는 얼굴로 손님을 맞이하는 의사와 간호사, '힐링카페'라고 불리는 영양수액실 등 치료를 넘어 안정과 힐링의 공간으로 자리매김했다.

카페 스타일 인테리어로 친근한 느낌 주는 병원
올해 5월 분당구 서현동에 오픈해
환자가 편안한 병원, 기분 좋게 왔다갈 수 있는 병원. 카페 스타일의 인테리어와 따뜻하고 친근한 공간은 나우리 가정의학과 이진복 원장과 미술 전공인 아내의 협력으로 미적인 부분과 기능적인 부분을 모두 충족시킬 수 있었기 때문에 가능했던 성과다. 병원의 이름인 '나우리(nowLEE)' 역시 아내의 아이디어다. '나우리'라는 이름은 '나'와 '우리'를 합친 공동체라는 의미이자, 한편으로는 병을 낫게 한다는 '나으리'와 유사한 발음으로 친숙한 느낌을 준다. 이 원장은 "항상 웃으면서 환자 분들을 맞으려고 한다. 처음 이 곳으로 옮겨오면서 '젊고 부지런한 병원'을 만들자는 생각을 했다. 그래야 이곳을 찾는 분들도 기분이 좋아질 수 있을 것이라는 생각에서였다"라고 이야기했다.
이 원장은 중랑구 상봉동에서 13년 동안 병원을 경영해온 경험이 있었으나, 끊임없이 많은 환자를 보고 병원을 개보수하며 유지하는 과정에서 스스로에게 지쳐있었던 탓이었는지 어느 순간 정체되어 있다는 느낌을 받게 되었다. 그래서 이 원장은 주위의 만류에도 불구하고 자신의 고향인 분당구 서현동에서 지난 5월 나우리 가정의학과의원을 개원하게 되었다. 쉽지 않은 결정이었지만 이 원장은 나우리 가정의학과에서 자신의 전공분야인 비만치료와 영양수액 치료에 집중했다.

"분당구 서현동은 초․중․고등학교 학부모가 전체의 60%를 차지하고 그 중에서도 중상층이 많이 사는 곳이다. 따뜻하고 친근한 분위기의 인테리어를 추구한 것 역시 이 분들의 스타일을 고려한 것이다. 또 비만치료와 영양수액 등에 대한 수요가 있었던 것도 중요했다"

나우리 가정의학과의원은 비만치료와 영양수액 등 이른바 현대인들에게 알맞은 치료법을 추구한다. 영양수액실을 '힐링카페'라고 이름 붙여 카페 같은 분위기에서 영양수액을 맞을 수 있도록 한 것 역시 이 원장의 아이디어다. '힐링카페'에는 안마의자까지 구비되어 있어 내원하는 방문객들이 한 번씩 들러 가는 코스로 자리 잡고 있다.

나우리 가정의학과의원의 영양수액은 오랜 기간의 연구와 경험을 통해 우리 몸에 필요한 최적의 영양성분을 적절히 배합한 수액이다. 이 원장은 영양수액에 대해 공부하기 전까지만 해도 수액에 대해 부정적인 생각을 갖고 있었다 한다. 그러나 환자들의 요구를 파악하고 다양한 임상경험을 토대로 '제대로 된 수액치료'가 필요하다는 생각에 이르렀고 나우리 가정의학과의원에서만 볼 수 있는 수액을 만들기에 이른 것이다.
그는 또한 '비만치료는 사치'라는 고정관념에 대해 반론을 제기하기도 했다. 이 원장은 "비만치료는 성인병을 미연에 예방해 질병을 막고 삶의 질을 높이는 치료입니다. 단순히 외적인 미와 몸매에만 집중하는 것이 아닌, 명확한 목적을 갖고 건강을 지켜가며 안전하게 체중 감량을 하는 것이 우선"이라고 말했다. 나우리 가정의학과의원에서는 안전한 주사와 약물, 생활습관 교정을 통해 효과적인 체중감량을 이루어 내고, 또한 체중감량 과정에서 생길 수 있는 문제점을 관리하고 해결하고 있다. 이 원장은 "요요현상이 없는 치료라는 것은 없다. 다만 그 과정을 어떻게 관리하고 대응하느냐가 중요한 것이다. 우리 병원에서는 급속 감량기와 유지기에 환자 개개인에 맞는 맞춤 치료로 체중감량의 효과를 최대화하고 요요현상을 최소화하고 있다 "고 말했다.

이진복 원장이 고향으로 돌아와 병원을 새로 열게 된 데에는 '지역사회 주치의'로서의 역할을 해나가겠다는 포부 역시 중요했다. 100세 시대 지역사회의 1차 의료기관으로서 본인의 몸과 마음을 맡길 수 있는 주치의가 필요하다는 것이다. 이 원장은 "질병 발생 전 단계에서부터 적극적으로 의사와 상담해서 건강을 지키는 것이 중요하다"고 하며 "이번 메르스 사태에서도 보듯이 주치의 제도는 궁극적으로 국가의 재정 절감에도 도움이 된다"는 점을 피력했다. 그는 또한 주치의 제도는 1․2․3차 병원을 경계 없이 돌아다니는 의료쇼핑을 막을 수 있는 길이라고 말한다.

또한 "주치의 제도는 해당 연령과 개개인이 병력에 따른 예방접종을 적극 권장하기 위해서도 필수적이다. 성인의 경우에도 자궁경부암이나 대상포진, 폐렴 등 예방접종이 필요하다. 특히 자궁경부암은 9세 이상이면 백신 접종이 가능해 청소년기에 되도록 빨리 접종하는 것이 중요하다"며 예방접종의 중요성을 강조하기도 했다. 
이진복 원장은 앞으로도 비만치료와 영양수액뿐 아니라 지역사회 주치의로서 본인의 역할을 충실히 해나갈 예정이다.

Located in Seohyeon-dong, Bundang-gu, Nowlee Family Clinic makes you confused when you first step into the place as the ambience is more like a cafe with  nicely organized medical equipments, desk lamps here and there and sophisticated lighting on the ceiling. But more impressive comes from the staff with utmost decorum and excellent services and the space called 'healing cafe (the room for infusion of nutrient)' where you can relax and recharge your energy.

The interior of Nowlee Family Clinic is work of family medicine doctor Lee and his art majored wife. They satisfied both functionality and esthetics of the clinic where visitors can feel a sense of comforts and easiness. His talented wife also gave the name 'nowLEE' which sounds 'na-woo-lee': 'na' means 'I' and 'woo-lee' means 'we' in Korean, thus indicating 'community'. It also implies 'recovery' as the sound is similar to the word 'na-woori' (recovery) in Korean. Lee said "she named it so that we can always greet visitors with kindness and a smile on our face. With this philosophy in mind, I was determined to make a young and good hospital that can give honest and effective medical services to the residents."

Lee actually has run his clinic in Sangbong-dong, Jungnang District for 13 years. With much fatigue caused by incessant improvement works on the building, Lee finally decided to move back to the current location where he was born and grew up and opened its first door last May. It was not an easy decision and but he is more than happy on the fact that he can just concentrate on his speciality: obesity treatments and infusion of nutrient.

Lee said "Seohyeon-dong, Bundang-gu is the area where 60% of residents are students and middle class school parents. So we took into consideration the characteristics of the residents for the interior design of the clinic. Another important factor is that there was a great demand for obesity treatments and infusion of nutrient in the area."

It was Lee's idea to design the room like a cafe and call it as 'healing cafe' that has even massage chair. It now has become a course that most visitors drop by before they go out of the door of the clinic after treatment. 

Nowlee Family Clinic's infusion of nutrient is the result of Lee's long research and experience. Lee actually had a negative impression until he studied the field himself. But after a thorough analysis on the market demand and clinical demonstration, he reached a conclusion that a right treatment was much need in the field and eventually developed his own infusion of nutrient. 

Lee also was one who challenged against prejudice that 'obesity treatments are a luxury'. Lee said "obesity treatments are very important to prevent adult disease and to improve the quality of life. They are not only about shaping body nicely but also about losing one's weight according to the person's physical standard." 

In this respect, Nowlee Family Clinic provides optimum medical services for obesity treatments through safe injection, medicinal therapy and ideal lifestyle. Through this, they effectively reduce the weight as well as manage the problems that might occur during the treatment process. Lee said "all obesity treatments have to go through yo-yo effect. Therefore, the question is how we manage the process. And we are confident to say that we maximize the treatment effect while minimize yo-yo effect with our great medical equipments."

Lee's determination to contribute to local society played a great role to make him move back to his hometown. He saw that the region needed a primary health care where residents can rely on. Lee said "it is important to keep your health from various diseases through a consulting with a doctor. Like we have witnessed recent MERS, family doctor system can ultimately be helpful for national health budget." The system also can prevent so called medical shopping which patents wandering freely through primary, secondary and general hospitals without any guide lines.

Lee added "the system is much needed to promote vaccination according to each age group and personal medical history. Vaccination is not only for young people but also for adults to prevent diseases such as cervical cancer,  shingles and pneumonia. Especially, vaccination for cervical cancer can be done at age 9 and therefore the sooner the better."

Power Korea hopes Lee and Nowlee Family Clinic play a significant role to improve the quality health service in local community.
