서울오픈아트페어 10주년, 다양한 행사로 관객 매혹
갤러리 엘 소속 13명 작가 합동 전시회 선보여

지난달 20~24일 서울 삼성동 코엑스 전시관 B홀에서는 국내 최대의 아트 마켓으로 불리는 2015 제10회 서울오픈아트페어(Seoul Open Art Fair)가 열렸다. 이번 아트 페어에서는 10주년이라는 특수성에 걸맞게 국내외 80여 갤러리의 신진 작가들뿐 아니라 ‘컬쳐노믹스’를 비롯해 다양한 특별 전시 프로그램과 강연이 행사장을 찾는 각계각층의 관객들을 맞이하며 아트 페어의 양적·질적 성장을 알렸다.

한편 이번 SOAF에 참여한 80여 갤러리 중에서도 아산병원 2인 전시회, ‘봄, 봄!’전 등 다양한 전시회에 참여하며 대중들에게 친근한 미술을 지향하는 이남숙 화가가 운영하는 갤러리 엘 소속 13명의 화가가 합동 전시 부스를 열고 SOAF를 찾는 관객들을 맞이했다. 갤러리 엘의 전시는 생명의 아름다움을 이야기하는 40여 점의 작품으로 이 날 전시에서 선풍적인 인기를 끌었다.

대중과 미술 시장의 거리감 없애는 ‘열린 미술시장’
서울오픈아트페어(이하 SOAF)는 미술 작품에 대해 대중이 흔히 가질 법한 거리감을 없애고 미술 시장에 한발 더 적극적으로 다가갈 수 있도록 하고자 하는 취지로 만들어진 ‘열린 미술시장’이다. SOAF에서 마련한 Young Artists전과 Emerging Artists전 등 특별 프로그램은 한국 미술이 새로운 세대로 이어져 내려가는 조류를 가장 먼저 앞장서서 엿볼 수 있는 기회가 되었고 ‘컬쳐노믹스’ 섹션에서는 문화 예술에 관심을 갖고 직·간접적으로 참여해온 국내외 유수의 기업들에게 현장에서 직접 관객들을 만날 수 있는 기회를 마련해 주었다.

이번 SOAF에서 최초로 진행된 DAW 전시에서는 ‘아트와 디자인, 건축’을 믹스한 새로운 개념의 아트페어를 선보였다. 아트가 된 디자인, 아트가 된 건축을 이야기하는 이번 전시에서는 1992년 그래픽 디자인 스튜디오로 출범해 패션디자이너 브랜드 발렌시아가, 마크 제이콥스 등과 협업하고 카니예 웨스트, 마돈나 등 팝스타와 작업한 바 있는 M/M(Paris), 건축의 문화적 컨텐츠로서의 가능성을 다각적으로 발현시키고 ‘개념적 건축’을 실현한 장운규 건축가, 핸드메이드 화장품 브랜드 Avery와 네덜란드 디자이너 듀오 Remy & Veenhuizen의 업사이클링 아트 콜라보레이션, 뉴욕 Paul Kasmin 갤러리에서 운영하는 아트스토어 PK샵의 리미티드 에디션 작품 등이 소개되었다. 또한 스크린뿐 아니라 순수예술에도 재능을 발휘하고 있는 강석우, 김영호, 이화선 작가의 다양한 작품을 접할 수 있는 특별 섹션도 마련되어 전시회의 매력을 한층 높였다.

한편 이번 SOAF에 참여한 80여 갤러리와 참여 작가들의 작품은 각자가 추구하는 예술 세계를 다양한 소재와 표현으로 구현해 내며 전시장을 형형색색의 활기로 가득 메웠다. 작품의 면면은 설치 작품에서부터 한국화, 사진, 서양화까지 각각의 것들이 한 단어로 정리할 수 없을 만큼 다양한 면면을 보이고 있었는데 갤러리 엘 소속 13명의 전시는 행사의 백미였다.

40여회 아트페어 및 단체전 참여․3회 개인전을 개최하고 대한민국 미술대전․대한민국 수채화대전 등을 다수 수상한 이경란 화가, 2012년 동탄복합문화센터 아트큐브, 2014년 수원미술관 등 개인전과 다수 단체전에 참여한 바 있는 황정경 화가, 흙과 모래 등을 소재로 석류를 그린 ‘작은 풍요’가 LG그룹 로비에 전시되었던 송민선 화가, 갤러리 엘의 대표이자 MBC드라마 '히어로', '왔다 장보리' 등에 작품을 협찬해 널리 알려진 이남숙 화가, 자연이 선사하는 기쁨을 표현하며 2014년 싱가포르 한국초대작가전에서 최우수작가상을 수상한 안현경 화가, 비단 소재에 혼합재료를 사용해 민들레 홀씨를 그려 생명의 아름다움을 표현한 박병국 화가 등의 작품이 눈을 끌었다.

또한 퀼른․마이애미․LA 등 해외 전시회에도 초청되며 스웨덴․태국 등 한국대사관에 작품이 전시되어 있는 홍익대학교 미술대학원 교수 박철 화가, 19회의 개인전과 150여회 단체전에 참여한 홍익대학교 미술대학원 교수 이상효 화가, 이화여대 서양화 학부와 대학원을 졸업하고 이번 전시회에서는 색면추상(Color field painting) 작품을 선보인 김민정 화가, 국내외 단체전에 참여하며 대한민국 기독미술대전 특선을 3회 수상한 오영숙 화가, 2014 서울오픈아트페어를 비롯해 다수의 개인전 및 그룹전에 참여한 윤경 화가, 2014 핑크아트페어, 개인전 라메르 등 다수 전시에 참여한 김정아 화가, 불꽃놀이와 야경 등을 동판화로 표현하며 2014 대전미술대전 판화부문 특선을 수상한 권복희 화가 등 갤러리 엘 부스에 전시된 40여 점의 미술 작품들은 생명의 아름다움을 표현하며 자연 속에서 치유되는 마음의 순간들을 표현해 냈다. 이번 갤러리 엘의 전시에서 특유의 콤바인 페인팅(combine painting) 기법의 ‘천년의 소리’와 서양화 기법의 ‘축제’, ‘사계’ 등을 전시한 이남숙 화가는 “해마다 현대인들의 트렌드에 맞는 작가들을 발굴·지원·육성하는 갤러리 엘은 이번 SOAF에서도 현대미술의 진수를 보여주며 전시장에 활기를 불어넣었다”고 이야기했다.

Open art fair that connects art to public with ease
Seoul Open Art Fair (SOAF) was launched in order to invite public to art market closer than ever. SOAF's 'Young Artists Exhibition' and 'Emerging Artists Exhibition' established a foothold for young artists to PR their works to the world and 'Culturenomics' section provided an opportunity for excellent companies home and abroad, which have participated in culture and art events, to meet audiences in the field. DAW Exhibition first hosted by SOAF introduced a new concept in which art, design and architecture are all mixed up. The exhibition told stories about design being turned to art and architecture to art. It was participated by 'M/M(Paris)' which started as a graphic studio in 1992 and worked with a fashion brand Balenciaga, Marc Jacobs, Kanye West and Madonna, an architect 'Jang Un-gyu' who actualized conceptual architecture, a hand made cosmetics brand 'Avery', the Netherlands' up-cycling art collaboration 'Remy & Veenhuizen' and the limited editions of PK run by Paul Kasmin Gallery in New York. The exhibition also installed booths for various artists including Kang Sung-woo, Kim Young-ho and Lee Hwa-sun.

SOAF this year was participated by 80 galleries and a variety of works were exhibited covering from installation, Korean paintings, photographs to western paintings. The works of Gallery L's 13 artists among them were conspicuous. Lee Gyeong-lan has participated in art fairs and group exhibitions for 40 times and held solo exhibitions for 3 times and won Korea Art Competition and Korea Watercolor Competition. Hwang Jeong-gyeong has held solo exhibitions and participated in 2012 Dongtan Cultural Foundation Art Cube, 2014 Suwon Art Center and group exhibitions. Song Min-sun's 'Small Abundance' (pomegranate with soil and sand) was exhibited at the lobby of LG Group building. Lee Nam-sook is CEO of Gallery L and her works were appeared on MBC dramas 'Hero' and 'I came Jan Bo-ri'. Ann Hyeon-gyeong won the grand prize at 2014 Korean Artists Invitation Exhibition in Singapore 2014.

Park Byeong-kook expressed a beauty of life with dandelion sore by using mixed materials on silk. Artist professor Park Chul at Hongik University Graduate School of Fine Arts whose works are being exhibited at Korean Embassies in Sweden and Thailand was also invited to exhibitions in Cologne, Miami, LA. Artist professor at Hongik University Graduate School of Fine Arts has participated in 150 group exhibitions and held 9 solo exhibitions. Kim Min-jung, who graduated from Ewha Womans University (Western Paintings) and Graduate School of Fine Arts, exhibited her works of Color Field Painting in this exhibition. Oh Young-sook participated in group exhibitions home and abroad and won Korea Christian Art Competition three times. Yoon Kyong participated in group exhibitions including SOAF and held solo exhibitions. Kim Jeong-ah participated in 2014 Pink Art Fair and held solo exhibition 'La Mer'. Gwon Bok-hee won special prize at 2014 Daejeon Art Competition in the print sector. All 40 works of Gallery L's artists were exhibited at SOAF and they expressed a beauty of nature and the moments of healing one's heart in nature. Lee Nam-sook especially exhibited her work of combine painting 'Sound of a Thousand Years' and western style 'Festival' and 'Four Seasons'. Lee said "Gallery L finds, supports and fosters trendy artists and our member artists made things hum at SOAF this year."
