형태와 색으로 강렬한 인상을 전달하는 추상 작업 선보여
MBC '킬미힐미' 등 다수 작품에서 주목받는 신진 작가

기하와 추상으로 현대 도시 표현한 'Color of City' 선보여
김민정 화가의 작업은 기하추상작업으로 Hard edge 작업과 형태적 유사성을 가지고 있다. 그러나 그녀가 작업을 통해 전달하고자 하는 것은 이전의 기하추상사조가 추구하였던 조형의 순수성에 대한 탐구가 아닌, 현대인의 정서 그리고 작가의 정서를 담고 있는 일종의 회화로서의 작업이다. 이번 서울오픈아트페어에서 선보인 김민정 화가의 작품은 그녀의 비구상 대표작인 'Color of City' 시리즈의 일부이다. 'Color of City'는 그녀가 바라본 도시에 대한 사색을 작업으로 담은 것이다.

 “온통 기하 형태로 가득 찬 도시의 형태들은 현대인들의 마음속에 시각적 인상으로 남아 정서를 구성합니다. 기하추상 형태들은 공간 속에서의 설치를 통해 다양한 모습으로 보이며, 그것은 현대의 도시와 닮아 있는, 마치 도시의 심장과 같은 도시의 일부로서 도시 속에 머물게 됩니다.”

김민정 화가가 생각하는 도시는 제 2의 자연으로서 삶의 터전이자 휴식의 공간이다. 그렇기에 작가는 현대인의 환경인 도시의 인상을 추상화한 오브제를 마주하는 것이 삶에 대한 사색의 기회가 될 것이라 생각한다. 작가는 그녀에게 가장 익숙한 시각적 형태인 기하도형을 변형하고, 색을 통해 전달하고자 하는 메시지를 상징화하여 함축된 형태로 정서를 공유하자 한다. 그녀가 작업을 통해 정서를 공유하는 방식은, 음악을 들을 때 소리를 듣고 감정적 반응을 하고 심상을 떠올리며 생각이 이어지는 것처럼, 기하학적 형태의 오브제를 제시함으로서 즉물적 형태와 마주하는 자체로서의 경험, 형태로 인한 인상, 색으로 인한 인상을 통해 작업을 느끼고 이해하는 것이다.

드라마와 교과서, 사보 등 다양한 분야에서 러브콜
김민정 화가는 이화여자대학교 서양화 전공과 동 대학원을 졸업하고 2011년 파리 아트컬렉션 특선, 스웨덴 아트컬렉션 특선 등 17회 공모전에서 수상하고 SBS 드라마 '보스를 지켜라', JTBC '가시꽃', MBC '킬미힐미' 등 다수의 드라마에 김 화가의 작품이 등장해 많은 주목을 받은 바 있다. 또한 그녀의 작품이 고교 '문학' 교과서와 중학 '문학' 교과서에도 수록되었으며 2014 ING 생명 캘린더, 2014~2015 한전 KPS 사보 표지에서도 그녀의 작품을 볼 수 있다. 2014년 SOAF에서는 'Young Artists10'에 선정되기도 했다. 2011년부터 2013년에는  에스콰이아 가방 브랜드인 SONOVI와 Artist Collaboration 을 통해 그녀의 작품이 핸드백에 디자인되어 전국의 백화점과 면세점에서 Collaboration 순회 전시를 가지기도 했다. 이로 인해 더욱더 대중들에게 알려지기도 했다.

김민정 화가는 이남숙 화가와 함께 모녀 작가로 활동하며 서울시의회, 국민일보 갤러리, 현대백화점 초대전, 시티은행 등 다수의 2인전을 진행했고 파리 한국문화원 초대전, 루브르 박물관 까루쎌 전, 스위스 아트바젤, 상해국제아트페어, 화랑미술제, KIAF 등 180여 회의 단체전 및 초대전에도 참여했다. 강렬한 색채와 희망을 전달하는 그녀의 작품 세계가 앞으로는 어떤 궤적을 그리게 될 지 기대된다.

Color of City, expressing modern city through geometry and abstract 
Kim's style is geometric abstract which has similar forms with Hard edge. But the message she wants to deliver is not the existing geometric abstract trend's study on purity of forms but is kind of paintings which contains sentiment of modern people and Kim herself. 

The works she exhibited at Seoul Open Art Fair (SOAF) this year were part of Color of City series which is her representative nonrepresentationalism. Color of City contains her thoughts about cities. 

Kim says "cities are full of geometries and they stay in the heart of modern people as visual impressions to form our sentiment. The forms of geometric abstract can be seen in a variety of ways through its installation in space and they stay in the cities as a part like the heart of a city."

Kim regards cities as the second nature for life and rest. Kim thinks that to encounter objects that are conceptualized of city's impression can be an opportunity to think about life. Kim transforms geometric figures and symbolizes her messages through color to share the sentiment with people in an abstracted form. Like we response and imagine when listening to music, Kim tries to communicate with people through geometric objects and their experience, geometrical impression and colorful impression.

Appearing on dramas, textbooks and company newsletters
Kim majored in western paintings at Ehwa Woman's University and graduated its Graduate School of Western Paintings. She won prizes at 17 open exhibitions including 2011 Paris Art Collection Special and Sweden Art Collection and her works were appeared on SBS drama 'Protect the Boss', JTBC 'Spineflower' and MBC 'Kill Me Heal Me'. You can also see her works on middle and high school literature textbooks, 2014 ING Life calendar, 2014-2015 KEPCO KPS's newsletter cover. She was chosen for 'Young Artists 10' at SOAF 2014. Through Artist Collaboration with Esquire bag brand SONOVI from 2011 to 2013, Kim's works were printed on handbags and sold at major department stores nationwide and duty free shops and she held itinerant collaboration exhibition. This made Kim even more popular. Kim, with her artist mother Lee Nam-sook, held numerous two-person exhibitions at Seoul City Council, Kookmin Ilbo Gallery, Hyundai Department Store Invitation Exhibition and City Bank and participated in 180 group and invitation exhibitions including Paris Korean Culture Center Invitation Exhibition,  Louvre Carrousel Exhibition, Art Basel Switzerland, Shanghai International Art Fair, Korea Galleries Art Fair and KIAF.
