박근혜 대통령, 아시아 최초로 ‘서울’에 둥지를 튼 ‘구글 캠퍼스’를 찾다!
세계적 IT 기업인 구글이 ‘개발자’와 ‘창업기업 지원’을 위한 시설인 ‘구글 캠퍼스’를 아시아 최초로 서울에 설립했다. 이는 영국 런던, 이스라엘 텔아비브에 이어 세계에서 3번째로 설치되는 것이다. 이는 지난 2013년 4월 박근혜 대통령과 래리 페이지 구글 CEO 접견 이후 설립 논의가 시작되어, 2014년 8월 구글이 캠퍼스 설립을 공식 발표하면서 추진되었다.

구글 캠퍼스 서울은 창업기업 입주공간과 교육장 등을 갖추고 있으며, 국내·외 창업보육기관(마루 180, 500 Startups 등)과 협력하여 ▲구글 전문가 멘토링 ▲해외 캠퍼스와의 교환 프로그램 ▲엄마들을 위한 캠퍼스 등의 다양한 프로그램이 운영될 예정이다.
개소식을 찾은 박근혜 대통령은 축사를 통해 ‘국내 창업 생태계’의 성장 가능성에 주목하고, 구글 캠퍼스를 설치한 구글 측의 노력에 감사의 뜻을 전했다. 또한, ‘구글 캠퍼스 서울’ 설립은 우리나라의 잠재성장력을 높이 평가하고, 미래에 투자하고자 하는 구글의 탁월한 선택이라고 평가했다.

박근혜 대통령은 직접 구글 캠퍼스 내부를 참관했다. 임정민 구글 캠퍼스 서울 총괄은 시범 운영기간에 창업가 1,000여명이 가입했다며 연말까지 6,000명이 가입할 것으로 기대된다고 밝혔다. 박 대통령은 회원들의 연령대가 어떻게 되는 지에 대해 질문했고 임정민 구글 캠퍼스 총괄은 젊은 창업가들이 많고, 여성 창업가나 좀 더 나이가 많은 30 ~ 40대들도 있다며 창업자들의 열정을 전했다.

박 대통령은 입주기업 시연에도 참관했다. 박상원 벤티케익 대표는 자신이 개발한 스마트폰 필터 카메라 앱에 대해 설명 하고 누적 다운로드가 1억 5,000만이 된다고 전했다. 이에 박 대통령은 이런 성공 사례가 자꾸 나와야 창조경제가 잘 구현이 된다고 생각한다며 축하의 인사를 건넸다. 임 대표는 세계 어느 나라에서든지 사용할 수 있는 ‘구글 캠퍼스 카드 회원권’을 박 대통령에게 선물로 전달하기도 했다. 구글 캠퍼스의 창업 프로그램으로 우리나라가 제2의 창업·벤처의 불씨를 잘 살려 글로벌 창업허브로 도약하게 되기를 기대한다.

박근혜 대통령, 삼성전자 반도체 평택단지 기공식 참석!
박근혜 대통령은 지난달 7일 오전 평택 고덕 국제화 지구에서 열린 ‘삼성전자 반도체 평택 단지 기공식’에 참석했다. 삼성전자는 세계 최대 규모의 반도체 생산라인을 건설하기 위해 반도체 단지를 조성하고, 나아가 기흥·화성·평택을 잇는 반도체 클러스터를 구축할 예정이다. 이번 반도체 단지 조성은 2017년도 상반기 가동을 목표로 15.6조원의 대규모 투자가 이뤄짐에 따라 일자리 창출과 경제 활성화에도 크게 기여할 것으로 기대된다.
먼저 박근혜 대통령은 평택 고덕 국제화 계획지구를 반도체 산업의 메카로 조성하기 위해 노력하고 있는 관계자들을 격려했다. 이어 이번 평택 반도체공장 건설은 그동안의 성장에 안주하지 않고 미래 경쟁력 강화를 위해 선제적으로 투자하는 기업가 정신을 보여주고 있다면서, 글로벌 경제위기와 같은 어려움 속에서도 용기 있는 투자와 젊은이들에게 기회를 주는 것에 대해 높이 평가했다.

박 대통령은 최근 세계경제의 저성장 기조와 더불어 우리나라 경제를 둘러싼 여건도 상당히 어려운 상황이라고 언급하며 특히 우리 제조업이 미국, 독일 등 선진국의 제조업 스마트화, 엔저를 통한 일본 제조업의 회복과 중국의 추격 등으로 세계 시장에서 더욱 치열한 경쟁에 직면해 있다고 말했다.
이에 대해 박 대통령은 정부는 환경 변화에 적극 대응하면서 경제를 활성화하기 위해 경제혁신 3개년 계획을 추진하고 있고 제조업 혁신 3.0 전략을 통해 제조업을 스마트화하여 경쟁력을 높이기 위해 총력을 기울이고 있다고 전했다.
이러한 정부의 노력이 성공을 거두기 위해서는 민간과 기업의 적극적인 동참이 반드시 필요하다며 국민 모두가 한마음으로 노력해줄 것을 당부했다. 더불어 정치와 정치권도 각 당의 유·불리와 정치적 이해관계를 떠나 오로지 국민을 위한 개혁의 길에 앞장서야 한다고 강조했다.

Park, visiting Google Campus Seoul
Google established Google Campus Seoul for the first time in Asia and the third in the world after London and Tel Aviv. Google Campus is a facility that support developers and start-ups. The plan of opening one in Seoul was discussed when President Park and Google CEO Larry Page met in April 2013 and Google officially announced its establishment in Seoul in August 2014. The Campus is facilitated with office space and training halls and is running various programs such as 'Google Specialist Mentoring', 'Global Exchange Programs' and 'Campus for Moms' in cooperation with start-up support organizations home & abroad (Maru 180, 500 Startups). Park showed her gratitude to Google for opening one in Seoul and the decision is an excellent choice as Google highly appreciated Korea's growth potential in the future. While Park was having a look around the Campus, the Manager of Google Campus Seoul Im Jeong-min briefed that 1,000 start-ups have already registered to the Campus during the test-operation period and he expects 5,000 more start-ups will register by the end of the year.

When Park asked about the age range of the members, Im briefed that the most members are young people with some women and people aged between 30s and 40s. Park also watched trial performance of the start-ups including Venti Cake CEO Park Sang-won who demonstrated his development of smart phone filter camera app which has been downloaded by 150 million people worldwide. Park said that we need more people like Park Sang-won to actualize creative economy. Meanwhile, Im gave President Park a Google Campus membership card as a gift. It is expected that Google Campus' start-up program will promote Korea's start-up and venture enterprises. 

Park, attending ground-breaking ceremony of Samsung Electronics Semi-Conductor Complex in Pyeongtaek
President Park attended Samsung Electronics Semi-Conductor Pyeongtaek Complex held at Godeok International Zone on 7 last month. Samsung built the complex to facilitate the largest semi-conductor production line in the world and is planning to create semi-conductor cluster that connects Giheung, Hwaseong and Pyeongtaek. The complex is scheduled to run from early 2017 backed up the investment worth $15B and is expected to create jobs and boost up national economy. Park encouraged the officials of the complex who is showing entrepreneurship through anticipative investment and highly praised their initiative and providing young people with opportunities.

Park continued "Korea's economy is not only experiencing a hardship due to a slow growth of global economy but also is facing fierce competitiveness due to the advanced countries' taking initiative in high technology-centered manufacturing industry as well as the recovery of Japanese manufacturing industry backed up by a weak yen and China's pursue. But we are doing our utmost efforts to make our '3 Year Plan' and 'Manufacturing Industry Innovation 3.0 Strategy' to be led by high technologies so that we can raise our competitiveness."
Park also added that we all have to work together to boost up our economy and global competitiveness.
