The global communication market has been advancing brilliantly, transforming from analog to digital and to 3G. Now, it is the heyday of 4G LTE. The global expansion of LTE-based high-speed service is building the communication ecosystem of ‘smart phone’ and ‘IoT’ and changing the society. Such a high-speed growth is also explained by the activity of optical communication industry. Power Korea Monthly spotlighted OE Solutions Inc. which has been keeping the first place in market share of optical transceiver, based on its unique technology.

An optical transceiver enterprise ranking 1st in the nation and 10th in the world 
Since 2011 earnest commercialization, ‘LTE’ has been on the continued expansion. According to GSMA (Groupe Speciale Mobile Association), it is expected that by 2020, 64% of the whole world will be using LTE network with data usage increasing 60% each year. Besides, by introduction of IoT, which connects things in diverse spheres, including household electric appliances, electronic equipment healthcare, etc., to network, it will increase the traffic 86% annually on the average. Such increase in mobile communication will lead to the growing market of optical transceiver for wireless telecommunications (WBH). So it is no wonder that OE Solutions is in the full glare of publicity, which is the optical transceiver company ranking first in the nation and tenth in the whole world. 

OE Solutions is an optical module (for sending and receiving) producer founded in August 2003 by the gathering of the world’s top-class specialists in optical communication. The company developed optical transceiver module, a part of active optical communication, for the first time in the world, and then developed smart transceiver (iTransceiver) in combination of the existing optical transceiver with functions of self-diagnosis and management, cultivating domestic and foreign markets. Optical transceiver technology that opens the era of wireless data communication
The internet we use uses an optical communication network called LAN. Optical communication network means the system of sending and receiving data by light through the cable using optical fiber. However, in order to use the data transmitted by light on the basis of electronic equipment, there must be equipment that can implement the data sent by light with electronic equipment by changing the light into electric signal. This equipment is ‘optical transceiver.’ 

The main product of OE Solutions is optical transceiver for wireless backhaul (WBH). WBH means the management of data communications implemented with smart phone or tablet PC. WBH optical transceiver’s importance lies in ever-increasing quantity of wireless data transmission. As smart phone spreads globally and wireless communication service network becomes higher in level domestically, too, demands for WBH are on the increase, which has been increasing the sales volume of OE Solutions steadily from 14.8 billion won for 2008 to 71.9 billion for 2014. President Park Yong-gwan explained, “We have so far continued with 20-30% growth annually for the past five years. Internally, too, we have enhanced our capabilities for differentiated technology. Following Chip, To, OSA and TRx, we have achieved vertical integration while working on the base technology of our main products, single wavelength two-way transmission technology, high-temperature functioning design, smart optical transceiver technology etc. For this, we have once filled over 30% of the total personnel with skilled technical hands. 

The supreme technology shining at 3500m below sea level 
OE Solutions, which has built up based on the pride of excellent quality and technology, is leading the market as the first mover through ‘smart transceiver,’ Smart transceiver in combination of optical transmitter-receiver with smart system is a new-concept transceiver capable of self-diagnosis and receiving a high attention from the industry for less than 1/100 electrical power consumption against the existing large-size equipment companies and a small size. President Park said, “Smart transceiver can be seen as what they call ‘an intelligent transceiver.’ It is a transceiver product combined with packet processor and you can control it remotely because it senses what happens nearby and its situation. If it malfunctions or has a problem, remote repair is possible so it is economical because of saving personnel expenses. So far, it has taken time for lots of testing and permission procedures, we expect this one will be a new leader in our buildup.” Setting the sales goal of the smart transceiver at 7-8 billion won for this year, OE solutions is knocking on the door to the global market. This product was also delivered to a global research project carried out by a European deep-sea research organization. This research carried out 3500m below sea level necessitated a high-technology transmitter to send the data onto the ground and OE Solutions’ smart transceiver was evaluated to be the right one in performance and durability.    

President Park declared, “We are aiming to connect the world into one through continued optical technology research and developing innovative products. To that end, we are planning to secure a share of 5% in the global transceiver market by 2020 and strengthen our global competitiveness through expanding our bases for activity abroad.“ Let’s watch for the future of OE Solutions to be active as the leader in optical communication technology which is considered a next-generation growth engine.
