세계와 지역, 문화콘텐츠로 소통하다

글로컬문화콘텐츠 이끌 창조적 인재 양성에 힘쓸 터

21세기는 이른바 ‘문화산업’의 시대로 일컬어진다. 각 지역의 특수성을 가진 문화가 국경과 민족, 거리와 시간을 뛰어넘어 교류되며 공유되고 있는 것이다. 그러나 이러한 문화교류가 일방적인 전파나 도입의 형태를 띠게 되면 필연적으로 실패로 이어질 수밖에 없다. 이에 따라 등장한 개념이 바로 ‘글로컬(Glocal=global+local)’이다. 세계적인 것이 지역적 요소에 따라 수정되거나, 지역적인 것이 세계적 요소들에 맞춰져 변화하는 것이다.

내실 있고 체계적인 인재양성과정 확립
문화콘텐츠 산업에서 글로컬 개념의 이해와 이를 활용하는 능력이 중요시되면서 이와 관련된 인적 인프라의 양성 또한 중요한 국가적 과제로 부각되고 있다. 이에 따라 지난 2014년에 출범한 경북대학교 ‘글로컬문화콘텐츠창의인재양성사업단(이하 사업단)’은 사회학과, 지리학과, 문헌정보학과, 신문방송학과가 참여하여 국제 간 교류에서 나날이 확대되어 가는 문화콘텐츠 분야를 이끌어갈 인재 양성에 매진하고 있다. 지방대학 특성화사업(CK-1)에 선정되며 2014년부터 5년간 총 15억의 지원금을 받게된 사업단은 각종 문화콘텐츠 관련 전문가 초청 강연이나 발굴·답사 등을 실시하며 학생들이 문화콘텐츠 분야에 대한 전문적인 지식과 경험을 쌓을 수 있는 기회를 제공하고 있다.

사업단을 이끌고 있는 이채문 단장은 “저희가 가장 역점에 두는 사항은 무엇보다도 내실 있고 체계적인 인재양성과정을 만드는 것입니다. 사업단의 최종 성과는 학생들이 사업단을 통해 배우고 익힌 것들이 실제 자신들의 직업을 선택하는데 있어 보탬이 되느냐 되지 않느냐에서 판가름 납니다”라고 밝혔다. 사업단은 ‘인재양성’이라는 목표달성을 위해 기존 4개 학과의 전공과목을 조정하여 서로 연계하는 한편, 매년 트랙에 참여하는 20명의 학생들에게 국내외 답사 및 관련 기관 인턴 체험 등의 기회를 제공하고 있다.

지역문화의 정수, 세계를 향하다
사업단은 그동안 학생들이 지역의 문화콘텐츠를 직접 발굴하고 체험하는 형태의 사업을 지속적으로 펼쳐왔다. 서울, 안동, 대구 등지에서 이루어진 문화콘텐츠 발굴 프로그램에 총 50여 명의 학생들이 참여했으며, 이들이 발굴한 원자료를 바탕으로 책자나 동영상 등의 콘텐츠를 제작할 예정이다. 또한 서울 KBS 답사와 함께 지역 유력 신문사인 영남일보 인턴 실습 등을 진행하며 직접 기사를 작성하고 지면에 게재해보는 경험을 얻기도 했다. 이 단장은 “소속 학생들의 취업이 사업단 성과의 지표가 되는 만큼 아직까지는 학생들이 배워가는 과정과 그 속에서 도출되는 결과물이 매우 중요합니다. 더욱 많은 기관들과의 업무제휴를 통해 다양한 산학 연계 학습 프로그램을 만들고자 합니다”라고 설명했다. 실제로 사업단은 지역 내 문화콘텐츠 기관인 대구문화재단, 대구경북문화콘텐츠진흥원, 대구콘텐츠코리아랩, 시간과공간연구소, 게임개발회사 KOG, 대구디지털산업진흥원 등과의 MOU 체결을 추진하고 있다. 

이 단장은 “문화콘텐츠는 융합학문입니다. 사업단을 구성하고 있는 각 학과의 전공 특성을 조율하고 이를 문화콘텐츠라는 특정 분야에 어떻게 녹여내느냐가 가장 중요한 문제라고 할 수 있습니다. 이들 각 학과의 전문적 역량이 잘 조화되고 발휘된다면 사업단 또한 더욱 추진력을 받게 될 것이라 생각됩니다”라고 밝혔다. 또한 그는 “사업단이 양성하고 있는 인재들은 지역의 문화콘텐츠를 세계로 실어 나르는 역할을 하게 됩니다. 마치 동서양의 문화교류를 대표하는 실크로드를 따라서 먼 길을 오간 신라의 고승 ‘혜초’처럼 사업단에 참여하는 모든 학생들이 ‘문화교류’의 의미를 되새기고 정진했으면 하는 바람입니다”라며 당부의 말을 남겼다. 

대구경북의 지역문화를 발굴하고, 세계화된 문화콘텐츠를 제작하는 것을 목표로 연구와 교육에 매진하고 있는 글로컬문화콘텐츠창의인재양성사업단. 이들이 키워낼 인재들이 세계 속의 한국을 빛낼 새로운 문화콘텐츠를 창출하게 될 날을 기다려보자.

Establishing effective system for fostering talented students

Promoting global cultural contents is becoming important. Founded in 2014, Kyungbook National University’s Glocal Cultural Contents Creative People Fostering Team is consisted of four departments of sociology, geology, library & information science and mass communication. The team was chosen for the local university specializing project and is supported of a $1.5M fund for the next 5 years starting from 2014. The team has held invitation lecturers on cultural contents and carried out field trips to increase student’s interest in the field and to provide opportunities for the students to acquire related knowledge and experience. 

Lee says “our job is to foster talented students in the cultural contents field. Whether the team was worth or not will be decided on the fact that how many students actually have had a reasonable good job in the field.” For this, the team converged the four academic subjects and provides internship for 20 participated students.

Promoting regional culture to the world

The team has been helping students find regional cultural contents and practice them. 50 student’s participated in the finding project in Seoul, Angong and Daegu and the team is planning to make substantial contents such as video images based on the materials they found. The team made a field trip to KBS, Seoul and carried out internship at a regional newspaper The Yeongnam Ilbo. 

Lee says “the employment rate of the students is closely related to the performance of the team and therefore it is very important to bear substantial fruit. For this, we will do our best to cooperate with more industry specialists and companies.” 

The team actually is planning to sign a MOU with Daegu Foundation for Culture, Daegu & Gyungbook Culture Contents Agency, Daegu Contents Korea Lab, Time & Space Research Institute, KOG (game developer) and Daegu Digital Industry Promotion Agency. 

Lee says “cultural contents is a convergence subject. The key is how we can converge each related subjects into one subject in the field of cultural contents. Our job is to make this happen in the hope of promoting talented students and related industry.” Lee added “we firmly believe that our students will take a significant role in the cultural contents industry not only in Korea but in the world. Like the monk Haecho who traveled between East and West on the Silk Road, our students also will be the cultural ambassadors who can bridge the two parts of the world in the future.”
