과학 기술의 발달로 평균수명 100세 시대를 앞두고 있는 지금, 건강과 웰빙에 대한 관심이 어느 때보다 높아지고 있다. 오래 사는 것만큼 중요한 것이 건강하게 사는 것이기 때문이다. 많은 전문가들이 물을 많이 먹을 것을 강조하는데, 하루 섭취 권장량만 2리터가 넘는다. 물을 많이 마시면 체내에 축적된 노폐물을 제거하고 신진대사를 활발히 해 세포의 노화를 지연 시킬 수 있을 뿐 아니라 피부미용과 다이어트 등에도 도움을 준다고 알려져 있다. 또한, 신체 노화와 대다수 질병의 직접적인 원인이 되는 과잉 활성산소를 몸 밖으로 배출하는 데 수소가 효능을 보인다는 것이 알려져 많은 이들의 주목을 받고 있다.

몸 속 활성산소 수소와 결합시켜 배출한다
활성산소는 호흡과정에서 산화과정을 거쳐 불안정한 상태로 존재하는 산소로서 몸속의 생체조직을 공격하는 것으로 알려져 있다. 인체 노화와 함께 고혈압, 당뇨, 암 등 생활습관병의 원인이 되는 활성산소는 본래 몸속에서 나쁜 작용만을 하는 것은 아니다. 활성산소는 적당량 생성되면 체내에 들어오는 세균을 죽이지만, 현대식 생활습관을 지닌 많은 사람들에게는 활성산소가 과잉 생산돼 이것이 정상적인 세포까지 공격하는 것이다.
한국식용수소연구소의 양은모 소장은 "수소는 몸에 있는 독소를 제거하면서 몸을 해롭지 않게 하고 건강하게 한다. 비만이나 당뇨 등 생활습관병의 발생은 활성산소 공급의 과잉 내지 불균형 때문이다. 우리가 호흡하는 산소가 음식으로 섭취한 기름과 결합되면서 산화지방으로 체내에 흡착되는 것"이라며 "이 활성산소(OH)를 수소(H)가 결합해 물(2H2O)로 변환시켜 배출하는 것"이 핵심이라고 설명했다.
수소의 효능은 기적의 물로 유명한 프랑스의 '루르드 샘물', 독일의 '노르데나우 샘물', 멕시코의 '토라코테 샘물', 인도의 '나다나 샘물', 파키스탄 ‘훈자의 물’ 등, 이른바 세계장수촌으로 불리는 지역의 물에 수소 함유량이 높게 나타난 것에서도 확인할 수 있다. 양 소장은 "처음에는 왜 루르드 샘물을 먹으면 기적이 일어나는지 잘 몰랐다. 나중에 성분 분석을 해 보니 수소가 많이 녹아있다는 결론이 나왔고, 이 수소가 몸속에서 산화된 활성산소를 제거하는 역할을 한다는 것을 알게 되었다"며 수소 연구를 시작하게 된 계기를 설명했다.

"음식을 잘 씹어 먹고, 물을 많이 먹는 것이 건강의 비결"
일본이나 미국 등 선진국에서는 우리보다 먼저 수소에 대한 연구가 시작되었고, 미국에서는 달 탐사를 떠나는 우주인들에게 약이나 영양제 대신 수소 제품을 공급할 정도로 수소 제품에 대한 인식이 확산되어 있다. 약으로 치료할 수 있는 질병은 세균에 의해 생기는 질병뿐으로, 전체의 10% 정도밖에 되지 않는데, 세균이 없는 90%의 질환을 치료하기 위해서는 몸에 있는 독소를 제거하고 스스로 치료하게 하는 과정이 필요하다. 양 소장은 "동의보감, 황제내경 등 고전의서의 내용을 보면, '의식동원(醫食同源)' 즉 의학과 음식은 근원이 같다는 이야기를 한다. 근본적인 치료는 생활 속에서 나와야 한다"며 생활 습관을 바꿀 것을 강조했다.

양 소장이 강조하는 습관은 음식을 씹어 먹는 것이다. 양 소장은 "우리 몸은 음식을 섭취하면 필요한 영양분은 흡수하고 필요 없는 것은 버리게 되어 있다. 음식을 씹지 않으면 어떤 영양소가 들어있는지 몸에서 알 수 없고, 무조건 흡수 후 저장하게 되는 것"이라며 음식을 씹어 먹는 것의 중요성을 이야기했다. 그는 두 번째로 "물을 잘 먹어야 한다"고 했는데, "우리 몸에서 수분이 하는 일 중 하나는 영양분을 세포까지 날라주는 것이고, 다른 하나는 영양분을 태우고 남은 찌꺼기, 백혈구가 죽인 세균의 시체, 죽은 세포를 버리는 역할이다. 몸에 있는 독소가 빠지는 방법으로 침, 눈물, 소대변, 땀 정도인데 실질적으로 조절할 수 있는 것이 소변"이라며 물 먹는 습관의 중요성을 역설했다.

간편하게 수소 섭취하는 '훈자 포터블 수소수기' 주목
양은모 소장은 수소수에 관해 일본에서 진행되었던 연구 결과를 번역하고 양 소장 스스로도 저술 활동을 이어가 10여 권의 책을 낼 정도로 수소수에 대해 깊은 연구를 한 인물이다. 그는 자신의 연구를 바탕으로 수소를 쉽게 섭취할 수 있는 식용 수소 건강식품을 출시하기도 했다. 에베레스트 산줄기를 타고 내려오는 파키스탄 훈자 지방의 청정수 이름을 본뜬 '훈자 포터블 수소수기'는 일반 수소수기 평균 용존수소량의 두 배가 넘는 1200ppb까지 수소를 생산할 수 있으며, 설치가 간편하고 12시간이 지나도 전체 수소발생량의 90% 가량이 남아있어 수소를 충분히 섭취할 수 있다. ‘훈자 수소수기’는 수소 연구의 원조 국가인 일본을 비롯해 미국, 독일, 헝가리, 프랑스, 스페인 등 20여개 나라에 수출되고 있다.

양 소장은 또 건강식품에 대한 연구를 바탕으로 천연 산호 칼슘을 원료로 하는 '하이드로젠 프리미엄 퓨어 칼슘'과 고순도 미립 마그네슘, 최고급 천연 해조칼슘, 항산화제인 셀레늄을 이상적으로 배합한 '맥스칼 에이(MAGXCAL A)' 등의 제품을 출시했으며, 수소수로 인삼을 재배해 인삼 뿌리와 인삼 본체, 잎까지 먹을 수 있는 방법을 개발했다. 100세 시대가 눈앞으로 다가오며 건강에 대한 사람들의 인식 역시 변하고 있다. 양은모 소장은 활성산소를 줄이는 수소 제품을 통해 앞으로도 대한민국의 건강을 책임질 것이다.(한국식용수소연구소, 1544-6791)(*)

Releasing active oxygen in the body through hydrogen
Active oxygen is unstable oxygen made by oxidation process during respiration and it is known to attack biological tissue in the body. It causes aging, high blood pressure, diabetes and cancer but it is not all that bad. With the right amount, it kills germs but when it over proliferates, it kills normal cells also. Yang explains "hydrogen removes toxin in the body without doing any harm to our body. Obesity and diabetes are caused by unbalanced or over supplying of active oxygen. When oxygen meets the oil from the food we take in, it absorbs into the body in the form of fat oxidation. But when this active oxygen meets hydrogen, it changes to water to be released from the body." In fact, the water in the world's renowned longevity villages such as 'Lourdes' in France, 'Nordenauer' in Germany, 'Tlacote' in Mexico, 'Nadana' in India, and 'Hunza' in Parkistan is rich in hydrogen. Yang says "I didn't know why miracle happens when drinking the water in Lourdes. Then I found after component analysis that it is rich in hydrogen and it removes active oxygen."

Advanced countries like Japan and US researched on hydrogen before us and US particularly supplied astronauts hydrogen instead of medicine or nutritional supplements. Medicine can only cure diseases caused by germs (10%) but to cure  90% diseases requires removement of toxin in the body or natural healing. Yang continues "old oriental medical books say 'medical science and food have the same root and fundamental cure must come from life habit'." Likewise, Yang's emphasis lies at chewing thoroughly. Yang added "our body takes necessary nutrients and throws away the rest. If we don't chew there's no way for the body to know what nutrients it contains and it just takes the food unconditionally and saves it in the body. And equally important is water. One of its functions is to deliver nutrients to the cell and another is to throw away leftover, the dead cell killed by white blood cell, and naturally died cell. It is released through saliva, teardrop and wet but mainly urine."

Hunza Portable Hydrogen Machine makes an easy intake of hydrogen
Yang translated research results about hydrogen water done in Japan and published 10 books on his own research. He also released related health food which can be easily taken. Hunza Portable Hydrogen Machine, inspired by the fresh water in Hunza, Parkistan that streams down through the mountain ranges of Everest, can produce up to 1200ppb hydrogen which is double the amount of normal hydrogen water machines. It is easy to install and 90% of hydrogen remains up to 12 hours after the first operation. The machine is currently being exported to 20 countries in the world including Japan, US, Hungary, France and Spain. By using natural coral calcium, Yang invented and released 'MAGXCAL A' which was made by ideally combing 'hydrogen premium pure calcium, high purity fine magnesium, top quality natural seaweed calcium and selenium.
