신발은 제 2의 심장이라고 하여 편안한 발의 중요성이 부각되는 오늘날, 신발은 기술적으로는 편하면서 디자인적으로는 개성을 표출하기 위한 것으로 전 세대에 걸쳐 관심을 받고 있다. 때때로 신발은 상황에 따라 다양한 변화를 보이는데 운동을 할 때엔 운동화, 조금 더 격식을 차릴때에는 구두, 평상시 생활할 때 개성을 조금 더 표현하기 위해 신는 캐주얼화등 그 종류와 디자인들은 셀 수 없이 다양화 되고, 세분화 되어 가고 있다. 이런 상황에서 고객들에게 실용성과 디자인이라는 두 마리 토끼를 쫓고 있는 넥스트 큐의 박주용 대표는 ‘아무리 좋게 만들어도 자기 발에 맞지 않으면 좋은 신발이라고 할 수 없다. 사람의 왼발과 오른발이 다르다고 증명된 지금 이런 부분까지 고려한 신발을 만들어내자’란 일념하에 하루종일 그의 머리 속은 제품의 디자인과 편리함을 잘 버무리기 위한 생각들로 가득 차 있다. 

‘첫 사랑’의 가수에서 넥스트 큐의 대표까지 
넥스트 큐의 박주용 대표는 경남출신의 가수이자 프로듀서이다. 박대표는 평상시 디자인과 색상등 패션에 관심이 많았으며, 이런 관심과 흥미가 커져가던 중, 한때 의류와 신발 산업의 강국이었던 우리나라가 필리핀, 중국등의 저렴한 노동력에 경쟁력을 잃어 가는 것을 보며, ‘순수 국내산으로 제품을 제작해보자’라는 일념하에 넥스트 큐를 창업하였다. 이렇게 시작된 넥스트 큐를 바라보는 시선은 높은 인건비를 자랑하는 우리나라의 여건상 힘들 것이라고 다들 염려하였다. 그러나 ‘순수익보다는 우리나라 브랜드라는 것이 중요하다’라는 박주용 대표의 신념하에 넥스트 큐는 최고급 품질의 신발을 만들고, 높은 인건비를 부담하면서도, 오히려 수입되어 들어오는 상품들과 비교하여 가격과 품질 면에서도 높은 점수를 받았다. ‘발은 제 2의 심장이기에 신발은 항상 편하고, 가벼워야한다’던 박 대표의 생각을 가지고 직접 사원들과 머리를 맞대고, 신발을 제작하였으며, 새 제품이 나왔을 때 박 대표가 직접 최소 한 달여간을 신어본 뒤 제품을 판매 하였다. 이런 박 대표의 노력 속에 넥스트 큐는 디자인이 예쁘면서도 발이 편한 신발이라는 주변의 입소문을 타게 되었고, 평소 연예계 생활을 하던 박 대표는 상품을 알리기 위해 과감히 연예인 마케팅을 대중들의 지속적인 성원과 관심을 얻게 되었다. 

하지만 신발을 만들며 다양한 문제에 직면하였는데 소비자에게 조금이라도 더 좋은 제품을 제공하기 위해 고급재질을 사용하기 위해 노력하였으며, 하루가 다르게 변해가는 유행 속에서 뒤처지지 않고, 유행을 선두하기 위해 밤낮으로 다양한 제품의 디자인들과 색상 등을 구상하였으며, 남녀의 왼쪽 발과 오른발이 다른 것 까지 고려하여 제품을 개발해 나갔다. 이런 박 대표의 노력은 점차 쌓여 넥스트 큐는 가격대비 좋은 품질의 신발로 유명세를 얻게 되었고, 수입강국인 중국에 우리 브랜드의 제품을 역수출하는 단계에까지 이르렀다.

끝임 없는 도전으로  한국 신발의 자긍심을 만들다
넥스트 큐는 최근 기형휴게소 1호점을 비롯하여, 2월 달엔 포항에서, 최근 3월에는 창원 중앙동에 새로운 넥스트 큐 매장을 선보였다. 양질의 제품을 소비자에게 제공하는 넥스트 큐의 대리점 운영정책에선 사업자를 배려하는 박 대표의 아량이 돋보인다. 우선 별도의 가맹비를 받지 않는다. 하지만 매장에 다양한 상품을 전시하며, 브랜드의 가치를 그저 그런 브랜드로 인식되지 않기 위해 매장의 평수는 15평 이상으로 제안한다. 인테리어의 경우 넥스트 큐에서 자체 인테리어 팀이 있는 것이 아니라, 기본적인 공간의 틀만을 제공하고, 이외의 세부 인테리어는 운영하는 대리점장에게 일임하여 최대한 부담을 줄여준다. 또한 한 지역에 한 업자에게만 대리점을 허가하는 방식으로 브랜드 간의 마찰을 최소화하여 같은 넥스트 큐의 대리점들이 서로를 의식하는 경쟁을 피하도록 지향했다. 이런 박 대표의 배려로 현재 대리점을 문의하는 지역은 늘어가고 있다. 박 대표의 목표는 400군데의 오프라인 매장을 만들어 넥스트 큐의 브랜드를 알리는 것이 목표라고 이야기한다. 오너가 뛰어야 전 직원이 뛴다는 일념하에 항상 선두에서 솔선수범하는 박 대표의 모습과 조금 더 좋은 제품을 개발하기 위한 노력하고 있다.

넥스트 큐에서는 현재 신발뿐만 아니라 의류와 악세사리 등까지 사업을 확장하여 일상생활 전반에 넥스트 큐를 선보일 준비를 하고 있다. 넥스트 큐 운영 및 가수 활동 외 에도 박 대표는 자신의 수입에서 일정부분을 매년 고아원, 교도소 등에 많은 사람들이 넥스트 큐 신발을 신어 볼 수 있도록 제품을 기부하는 등 사회에 환원하는 일에도 많은 부분 앞장서서 노력하고 있다. 본인은 하루세끼 밥만 먹는다는 생각으로 일하고, 사회에 재능과 노력을 기부한 박 대표는 그런 공로를 인정받아 2013년 12월 7일에 대통령 봉사대상을 수상하기도 했다.

Dreaming of becoming the best shoes brand in Korea
People sometimes call shoes as the second heart to express their importance. Good shoes provides convenience in terms of technology and personality in design. There are many kinds of shoes such as sneakers for exercise, shoes for formal occasions, casual shoes to express one's personality and they are becoming more diversified and functionalized. Juyong Park, the CEO of Nex Q, knows very well about the fact that left foot is different from right one and is working really hard to make shoes that can satisfy both practicality and design with close-fitting as the basic. 

From a singer of 'First Love' to being the CEO of Next Q
Park is a singer and a producer from South Gyeongsang Province. But he also showed a great interest in design and fashion. He was observing the transition with much regret that the Korean shoes industry was eroding by the Filipino and Chinese ones due to their cheap labor and market competitiveness, and this made him decide to found a Korean shoes company to provide quality Korean shoes. People around him were worried about Park as Korea's labor cost is quite high but Park nevertheless launched the business with his self conviction that 'our brand is more important than making profits'. He made high quality shoes despite high labor cost and his products became second to none in price and quality when compared to foreign brands. Park and his staff worked hard with one mind to make light and comfortable shoes and when new shoes were finally made Park himself wore them for a month to check their quality and practicality before the release of the shoes. And the popularity of Next Q was rapidly spread from mouth to mouth and Park used his celebrity presence for marketing to commercialize the products. He used advanced material only and spent day and night in research and development of design and color of shoes based on the scientific fact that left and right feet are not identical. Their hard work eventually bore fruit that they became popular and started exporting the product to China. 

Promoting pride of Korean shoes through constant challenge
Next Q opened the first branch at Kihyung Rest Area recently, and the second one in Pohand in February and the third one in Changwon in March. Park makes it easy for store owners to run the business; there is no membership fee but he suggests the size of store more than 50 square meters in order to display a variety of products. Regarding interior design, the head office provides the basic frame of the space but interior can be done by each store according to their needs and taste. Park also allows only one store in each region to avoid competition between the same brand. Thanks to this careful and practical consideration, the number of inquiries about franchise is increasing significantly. Park's goal is to open 400 offline branches to spread Next Q nationwide. Under his management philosophy 'If the CEO work hard so does the staff', Park is working really hard to develop better products. Currently Next Q is preparing to launch clothes and accessories alongside shoes in the hope of expanding the business. Meanwhile, Park has been doing social contribution activities by donating part of his profits to society. For his contribution, Park received 'Presidential Social Contribution Service Award' on 7 December 2013. Park always consider others first, passionate about spreading quality Korean shoes, and works hard to make Next Q a global company.
