In anticipation of great 2015 for classical violinist Jihae Park
Violinist Jihae Park

Park always introduced her dream as 'i-Violiner'. Like iPhone's 'i', but she wants to make her performance intimate with people over innovation and originality. She tends to play as a 'popular classical violinist' and an honest musician instead of being a vocational music performer. This might be the reason the audience find pleasure and comfort from her and in this term, her music is a must have.

Q. How did you spend your year end holiday?
A. Generally, I hold concert around 200 times a year. I finished my last performance yesterday (31 December). I'm not always in Korea but I spent a busy time during the last months in Korea. I had a solo concert at Seoul Arts Center, gave a performance for culturally disadvantaged people, and also appeared on the TV.

Q. You do not seem to make distinction between small and big concerts or a concert for social contribution?
A. Actually, I care about which concert I do. Social contribution for me is more like sharing classical music with those who have nothing to do with the music such as political gatherings, forums or lecture rooms. I feel a little bit uncomfortable if my concerts are packaged with the word "donation" because there are a lot of people who are professionally into it.

Q. Apart from music, have you done or is doing something else?
A. Like I said, talent donation is good thing to do but basically I'm a musician. Recently, I'm thinking about whether I want to do music just to please audience ear or I want to use it as a means of 'healing" people. I do feel worth when doing a social contribution but I'm a violinist after all.

Q. Do you want classical music to be settled like popular music?
A. I do. Classic music performance has its own monotony like your ears are closed from the beginning to end. But when you play 'Arirang' the audience open their ears suddenly. That doesn't mean I want to give a catchy melody only. A musical instrument for me is a tool to convey my message and hope. So I try to give a story during the concert, arrange a song at the audience eye level, and also show my technique to give a variety. I want to communicate with people regardless of sex or age through my music. I want to give a comfort and good energy to people and this is the reason I play the violin.

Q. It is a really attractive thing to deliver a message through one's own work of art?
A. I feel that I've been improving the things I have strived to achieve and I think this could have been my driving force; upgrading the things I do. I don't want to do music without thinking. I hurt a lot from many things before. But now I'm focusing on actualizing what I'm doing at the moment and I think I'm on the turning point of it.

Q. Some people say that a musical instrument is a tool to share emotion?
A. I agree. I've had many cases that people cheered me up with their advice which didn't actually solve my problems. But music absorbs into my inner-self. No matter how many words of comfort are given to you, you cannot digest if you are not open. You can't be closer to your heart. If I can touch my heart with my music I think I can do to others. Music doesn't seem to be the frist solution but it will walk into you with empathy.

Q. What do you think is communication in music?
A. I'm the biggest beneficiary of my music. Plying itself is happiness. If I calculated how to convey my message in my head, communication would have been impossible. I've got to feel it, indulge into it, and I must have a strong will to express and share it, in order to communicate with the audience. I actually was born and raised in Germany and I'm not good at Chinese characters but I like the word òØãý (sincerely).

Q. Dose music sometimes give you stress or has it always been positive?
A. Well, I'm curious. I didn't start music with the classics. I listened more to gospel or something that tells stories. But the moment came when I could be able to listen to the music with my heart rather than with my brain. So I fell into classical music. I don't want to say I started to play the violin because I was talented but by the help of great professors, the German government which supported my studying in the country, and above all, the comfort I received from the music. I want to return what I have received to people.

Q. What is your plan for 2015?
A. I had many glorious moments las year like my Black Deka Label Album of British Universal Music achieved Golden Disk Awards. The classical album I recorded in the UK will be released one more time with Deka Label this year. Also, 'The Live Queen, Park Ji-hea Super Concert' has been scheduled to be held in autumn in 14 cities in Korea (managed by Haewa JHP). But the proudest thing of all is that I've been invited to '2015 International Violin Competition' in Italy as a judge. I just want to carry out my role sincerely as a musician and that is my new year's plan.
