Pianist Youngwha Jeon

Versatile pianist from soloing to chamber music

Trained at Staatliche Hochschule für Musik and exchanging music with German musicians

From Yewon School, Seoul Arts High School to Staatliche Hochschule für Musik

Successful return-solo concert in explosive response from audience

Jeon's achievements were already highly recognized when she was attending Staatliche Hochschule für Musik. She held numerous recitals and recording at SR Radio Station. Saarbrücken Newspaper praised her as "she is an impressive newcomer excellent both in technique and understanding of the works and brilliantly collaborate when playing chamber music". Nevertheless, she was nervous to have a solo concert in Korea. But help came from the principal of BSK Deutsch-Institut Bumsik Kim. Jeon studied German language at the institute before she went to Germany and when Kim heard the news that she would start her musical career in Korea, he threw himself into the matter with enthusiasm. Jeon said "There were over 200 music enthusiasts in my performance. It was so emotional as the response from audience was very hot."

Versatile musician who wants to contribute to development of chamber music in Korea

Expected to participate in AIPAF as a teaching staff with renowned Korean pianists in July

Jeon says "there are many chamber music teams which have a 20 year or 30 year history in Europe. I want to gather excellent soloists who have open-mindedness and hold concerts with them in Korea. It is regretful that there is no chamber music department (piano trio, string quartet usw.) in universities in Korea yet. Communication and sharing are the things musicians do at the end of the day I think. If there is an opportunity I would like to contribute to development of chamber music in Korea." After successful solo concert in Korea, Jeon is doing piano lesson for students and also teaching German language at BSK Deutsch-Institut. As many students of the institute are music college students who are planning to study in Germany, Jeon also provides her advice based on her 7 year experience living in Germany. Meanwhile, she belongs to Korea Piano Duo Association led by Youngrim Ham and is expected to participate in regular concert and also to participate in The 10th Asia International Piano Academy & Festival with Competition in Korea as a teaching staff from 28 July to 2 August.

Music should be a means of communication but not a competition

Jeon says "I do not have fantastic career compared to other musicians. I just enjoy being on the stage and get excited when I see audience get impressed by my performance. That I think is the power of music. Classic is 100% live concert. The concentrativeness depends on condition and audience response on the day of performance and I get surprised by myself and find different self and this makes me exciting." Jeon added "I am really thankful that I finished studying music in Germany and in gratitude, I would like to exchange music with German musicians." Power Korea supports Jeon and wish her every success.
